Wow! Thanks so much! Fascinating reflections-I would love to hear more about them. This method has an incredible potential for therapeutic uses! I used it once with a group and it was incredibly powerful! I would say that you can't add an element to the story that is covered by MTG cards. For instance, you couldn't add an artifact like a sword) to the story unless you draw a sword card. i.e. you must only use the elements of the cards to create your story. Otherwise, they really are no restriction and have no real meaning to the game. Also, I think you should always draw locations from Land cards, and they should be placed on the table in a continuous line and should be moved form one to the other. Also, I would say that the object of the quest must be found in a matching color of land (so the elemental must be found in a mountain , and perhaps in a special location; i.e. you must first get to/discover a mountain card, and then you must draw a special land location (like a hallowed fountain, etc.) to find the creature ()and perhaps have to make a discovery check of some kind, like drawing two odds or evens).
I REALLY like the idea of limiting the story to what is drawn-a much tighter prompt system. I will definitely be giving that a try!! ⚔️🛡️🔥

I would also add a time element, with a movement phase every turn, and encounter phase, etc. Then you can give a time limit for completing the quest before the opportunity vanishes.
Time limits are always good! They raise the stress and therefore the stakes, and in this fashion make the gameplay more intense. ⚔️🛡️🔥
Also, perhaps an NPC reaction (based on the odd and even). Also, I might set the difficulty of each task based on the level of game you are playing (eg 1 for beginner, 5 for legendary). Which means you should build your deck paying close attention to having an equal number of even and odd cards, as well as a bell shaped curve of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5+s ( in terms of mana costs).
This is a good idea worth developing. (A few other have suggested themed decks for special sessions.) it would be fun to try making a custom deck for the session with a couple hundred cards. I will definitely give it a try! 👏✅

So, per my comment below, building the play deck (the large deck of cards you draw from) should include artifacts, enchantments, creatures [ a fair number of these], battles, planeswalkers (there are some uncommon ones from the war of the spark (and these can be allies or special NPCs) instants [treated as events], sorceries [treated as events], (and the land deck should contain few of each basic land, and several/many special lands)

There's no point in making any character with this system. The only substantial aspect of any character here is what "level" you start them on.
Dumb question from someone who just wants to try this out... Is there a premade deck to buy to play this solo? I see commander decks on Amazon that say they are starter decks. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Not a dumb question at all! The beauty of this system is that you don’t need a complete deck to play-just a bunch of cards! A good start is to just pick up a bunch of cheap commons/uncommons. Ebay has tons of cards for cheap. Otherwise local game stores usually sell bulk commons for next to nothing. The most important thing is to find a bunch of “bad” cards with great pictures. Hi! First, thanks for your awesme RPG, found it 1 year ago? Or idk but 4 months after the first release of your solo RPG. Second, it would be nice to have a discord server for this RPG, allowing everyone to showoff their campaign. (and maybe help you by putting a suggestions channel and a homebrew one?) This is more of a solo storytelling game than an RPG.
Yes, depending on how one defines a RPG. There are rules for combat, skill checks, etc., but these rules are not very crunchy. More rules light with emphasis on story. One thing I would like to develop is the combat system. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on this! 👍😊⚔️🛡️🔥
