  • In this episode Dr Linda Carpenter speaks with neurocare's Dr Trevor Brown on the latest evidence of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for the treatment of Depression and other disorders. They discuss research and techniques for clinicians to consider bringing about longer-lasting outcomes of this emerging and effective brain stimulation technique.
Dr Linda Carpenter is a Professor of Psychiatry in the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Chief of the Mood Disorders Program at Butler Hospital.
She led a 10-year, federally funded translational research program focusing on the development of laboratory biomarkers signaling risk for mood/anxiety disorders, and understanding the impact of early life stress on adult biology. She has also conducted a number of randomized clinical trials sponsored by industry and NIH, investigating investigational drugs and devices for treating depression, including esketamine, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS).
She is the founding Director of the Butler Hospital TMS Clinic and Neuromodulation Research Facility. Her lab evaluates new neurostimulation treatments and their mechanisms, using both EEG and fMRI.
In addition to her role as Deputy Director of the Butler COBRE Center for Neuromodulation, Dr Carpenter is Director of the Center’s Neuromodulation and Neuroimaging Core, where she provides training and other resources for neuromodulation researchers in the Rhode Island area.

My dau h ter recently received ACCELERATED TMS (SAINT PROTOCOL)
5 days w 10 treatments a day. She was TRD and had tried 40 medication had ect and Spravato treatment with no success. We traveled from Michigan to Las Vegas atTMS Brain Health.
It was completely successfu She was her old self, feeling amazing, but only lasted for 10 days. She is severely depressed again. She is beginning tms maintenance. My question would be what kind of maintenance she should receive to get her back? I am hoping they would be aggressive seeing her accelerated protocol is the first and wonderfully successful treatment that worked.

Hello, Janet. I am also a Mom searching for TMS treatment for my daughter. My daughter cannot take medication, because of an immunological condition. She only takes homeopathy. When you say your daughter had 40 kinds of Medications, I wondered what human beings can take so much. I also have a boy who is autistic but I never wanted to give him meds and I never did. Well, I am just searching it for my daughter because she has been doing Psychological therapy but it is not enough because she is developing OCD. What I have noticed is that depending on the State or Clinic they offer a different quantity of sessions. What I have learned from my search is that people with severe depression would need to take 6 to 8 weeks of treatment. Whoever has a severe case of depression would intensive care but not accelerated care. I do not know which State you live in. I live in Miami, FL, and thru the Clinics here, so far they recommend a 6 to 8 weeks treatment with maintenance along the way, as needed. If were you, I would search for different clinics. I have noticed that other states may offer a 20-week treatment. If your daughter has a severe case diagnosed, I would suggest that you search for a more consistent program for your daughter. Most of the clinics here offer one first consultation to make sure the patient qualifies for the treatment. My biggest wonder is how long a treatment may last, that's why I was watching this interview with Dr. Linda Carpenter. I trying to learn more about it before I commit to any clinic. I wish the best of luck to you and your daughter and may God cover you both with many blessings. so long, Lucy (from Miami, FL). Take care!
