    Mk 6 2.4 rwd 2004 . Any idea what making glow plug light come on while I'm driving? No code's some loss of power. Restart usually gets rid of it . Tia

      @@MrLodonlondon check your Earth connections. Sometimes lights coming on can be caused by bad Earth connections.

    Have you got a video of How you replaced the wire please or a pic

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  6 місяців тому

      I just used a standard electrical connector block., and pocked the 2 ends of the broken wire in, and tightened the screws. It's still working today.

      Hello, When I connect the wire it burns, do you know what it is ? Thanks

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  5 місяців тому

      @@Jan_kovac It probably means that one or more of your glow plugs need replacing. When they fail it increases the resistance in the circuit, which draws more current and burns out the fuseable wire.

    Would that stop the van from starting mate

    Glow plug light on dashboard came on when I over revved and lost power. Came home let it rest turned ignition back now light hasn't come back on and driving seems OK. Should I still get it checked out

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  Рік тому

      The light should still come on when you first turn the key. If the light isn't coming on then the relay on the glow plug circuit may be at fault. In this warm weather the van should still start, even without the glow plugs. But it will be a different story in the winter. If in doubt get someone to have a look at it before the cold weather arrives.

    Good job, do you know the resistance of the glow plugs ?

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  2 роки тому

      I did but I can't remember now. You would need to test them when they are out to the engine. So assuming you can get them out, I would buy one new one to compare resistances, then replace however many you need to. Personally if you can get them all out, I would replace them all.

    • @MrScoobydoo12
      @MrScoobydoo12 2 роки тому

      @@phaseaudio they can be tested in situ if you know the resistance, or in my case they are all burnt out as there is No resistance (open line) so I know I need 4 Thanks

    Great video, I'm having the exact same problem. How did you end up fixing it, did you leave it with the block connector or did put a fuse there? If you can let the know as much details as possible please including the amps ect... many thanks. If you could possibly send a link where I can get the parts that would be much appreciated.

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  Рік тому

      I left the block there and it's still working fine today. From memory I think the glow plugs draw 80amps. You might also want to get the injectors looked at in the future, as these vans can also struggle to start if the injectors are knackered.

    What's the 2nd red wire on the right for

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  7 місяців тому

      Not sure where that wire goes. My van did have internal heating in the rear, so that wire might not be standard.

    My husband has a glow plug light on, he followed your advice, changed relay, changed glow plugs and fixed fuse wire, cleared code but it's still on. Any advice?

      Not sure if this will apply to your van, but I found another video that may help.

      With my van, I didn't have the glow plug light staying on, It was just difficult to start in cold weather.

    Hi
    My husband has tried to connect the wires together like the video but it just blows the fuses each time any ideas ??

    • @phaseaudio

      I probably means your glow plugs need replacing. Have you have had any trouble starting the van when the weather is really cold, that's an indicator that the glow plugs are failing.

    hi thanks for video...quick question my radiator hoses at top get hot but bottom hose stays cold, I've changed thermostat too...is this normal to stay cold

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  3 роки тому

      The bottom hose should get warm. I would disconnect the hoses and remove the radiator. Turn it upside down and flush it through with a hosepipe. This will remove any sludge that could be causing a blockage.

      @@phaseaudio I've flushed it and when i squish the hose I can see the water rise in header tank bottle...I'm assuming it's winter and won't really get hot..but I'm not 100% sure ..I've heard in winter bottom pipe doesn't get hot because these diesel engines take alot to get warm

    well done

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  6 місяців тому

      It could stop the van from starting in cold weather, as the diesel needs to be hot to ignite. In warm weather and when the van is running, this is done by the diesel being compressed by the pistons, but when starting in the cold it needs a bit of help from the glow plugs.

    Hi
    Did your glow plug symbol flash or anything ..
    My van been sat for 8 weeks won.t start ...

    • @phaseaudio
      @phaseaudio  3 роки тому

      No, my light was coming on and going off as it should. I just couldn't start my van in the cold. I believe there is a temperature sensor on the top of the engine that controls the duration of the glow plug heating. Check to see if your glow plugs are getting power when you turn the ignition on. You may have a faulty connection to the bulb on the dash.

    Hi I have just had same problem with my van I used a block connector and the wires started getting really hot and the block connecter melted ? Help plz

    • @phaseaudio

      I think the fuseable wire is rated at 80amps, so you would need a connector with a similar rating. It's probably worth checking your glow plugs if the fuseable wire has blown.
