Yes I completed my twelfth and i loved learning , I loved completing many roughbooks doing diffraction and integrartion, I was addicted to such things 😂 but when I joined a coaching Institute my interest gradually decreased as they are trying to separate the best, in our coaching Institute there are a lot of students The one who has previous coaching experience from eleventh or even from sixth 😮 The one who is intrested in studying but lack of coaching and unhealthy competition makes them less confident and self doubtful, iit, central universities, aiims are considered as premium I'm not from a super rich family and not fall under any reservation, hence my dream of studying in top universities remain as such ,, I don't know why I'm sharing this here, but i felt to do so.

There are atleast 500-600 people in my area that are preparing for Gov teacher exam and I once held a survey for why they want that job , most of the answer was, *Bhai aaram ka jeevan rahega *garmi me 3 mahine ki chutti milegi *Bhai moti pension rhegi retirement per And many more answer relating the word " aaram ka jeevan "

Nehru atleast tried to do his best and created world renowned institutions, the other prime ministers are responsible to make the primary education system better. We should remember that during Nehru's leadership India had just gained independence and hence the priorities were different but, now things are different. Though late, we should atleast try now. You might be right that government schools are not in good condition, but we must appreciate schools like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which provide free education, residency, food, books, and daily necessities to the students (80% reserved for rural students). As a postgraduate from AIIMS and the first doctor from my family, this school was a blessing for me. And its not just me more than 90% of alumni from jnv are doing well in their life. The JNV system has been a remarkable educational experiment, empowering thousands of rural students to break socio-economic barriers and achieve their dreams, proving that with the right opportunity.
I am a student at one of these so called top colleges, can confirm that most of the freshers of these colleges comes from well to do families. While on other hand students from normal families struggles to do so because of such poor foundation, either spend large amount of money to get coaching for these colleges or forget the dream of such colleges. IITs might produce top engineers, but at what cost? The intense pressure and toxic competition drive so many teenagers into depression, and some tragically don’t make it out. Our education system treats students like machines programmed for entrance exams, not curious minds meant to explore and innovate. Maybe it's time to ask-are we creating world-class engineers or just emotionally drained individuals chasing ranks? Success shouldn’t come at the cost of mental health.

Although Nehru didn't take the bottom up approach, he definitely gave India quality higher institutions. He did what he thought was appropriate at the time. But since him, no one seems to have done much on strengthening the Indian education scene. Now, BJP has been in power for 10+ years and they had 10 years of majority in Centre and government in many states. Yet their focus has never been on upgrading and spreading quality education. 10 years turn a new born into a 10 year old and a 10 year old into a 20 year old. But education was never a focus in those 10+ years. Better days indeed 🤡. At least Kejriwal has done something in this sphere.

The implementation is state specific and not center specific because the centre has control over only kendra vidyalayas. Infrastructure is mostly MLAs responsibility and each state has their own syllabus (from 1950s) which is generally not changed by any party as a lot of controversies arise when a syllabus is changed. For CBSE and ICSE, (i myself am an ICSE student) has 75% irrelevant and wrong information in their textbook. And me being from kerala, I can assure you our 95% literacy rate means nothing because a 10th std gov kid WILL get atleast 80% even if they don't know basic multiplication and division. My point? Reforms in democracy is hard, especially when people themselves (including the "educated" ones) are unaware of how the country actually runs

We literally have to take education policy seriously. Just constructing big buildings for college is not sufficient we need high tech labs and to do work in such labs we need really dedicated and research oriented faculty. We are lacking a researcher approach rather than focusing only on packages students got from IIT. I have rarely seen a news article about research work done in IIT which is impacting internationally but students getting 1 Cr package in google is what a proud moment for us (no doubt students getting 1 Cr is very hardworking and he deserves that) but why we are not focusing on developing an education culture where students can form their own Google. There are lots of problems 1) Political Will 2) Most Colleges are owned by politicians. And the main problem is they use clg staff for their work during elections. 3) Entry of private players to gain profit ( no doubt if they are working they should get profit but there should be a limit) 4) Thinking of society. People see education as a financial investment so they want a huge return from that. 5) And the last is the Student itself. They don't want to study at all.
Well I don't agree with your last point. If students have a good teacher then the teacher is going to make the student want to learn. The problem is the notion that studying is boring but trust me it's not. In fact it's quite interesting and can be made more interesting depending on how the teacher teaches. What is boring is rote memorization.

That is a really flawed logic, there is always gonna be a hierarchy in colleges in any country, the same is the case in china and USA too, the problem is not that IIT's are the top institutions of the country, but other colleges like ITI's and state universities (except DU ofc) are so bad in comparison that not getting into IIT/NITs is seen as a career death by many people

In China, they first created hundreds of quality Public STEM colleges and then upgraded. Now they're in top 100. But Nehru"s ndia created premium institutions at the very beginning without any base and thus such top educated elites were out of touch with ground reality, it was no longer for them and consequently they went to US. Though economic liberalisation, chamged it a but but the core hasn't been reversed much.
1:13 As a present student of IIT KHARAGPUR and a former student of NIT ROURKELA, I'm fully agree with you that govt should focus on improving primary education, skill development courses, etc etc (lots of things need to be improved), but that doesn't mean the Indian education system failed because of IITs-title & thumbnail of the video!
IITs and NITs need to be diluted so that everyone who wants good technical education, gets it without putting themselves through hell. Old IITs need to be diluted to produce at least 10 IITs per state, and old NITs need to be diluted to proceed at least 1 NIT per district. I am a mechanical engineer, did 5 internships, published 3 papers and 1 patent and am currently working on R&D activities in a global industrial group. I had to graduate from a "Tier 3" college because my government can't be bothered to guarantee a decent technical education to me without me "proving" my "aptitude" through Maths, Physics & Chemistry (that I rarely use in my work today). I work in R&D while IITians and NITians in my office work on drawing creation, CAD updates and product lifecycle management work.
It is quite literally the reason, the budget is skewed to favour institutions of national importance; A top down approach as rightly pointed out in the video, the indian education system failed due to an initial focus on higher education, IIT's are merely the symptom of said focus. You can't mention one without the other.
Yes they did, most engineers come from non-IITs, and the engineering exam was developed by IITians, how decades after decades of failures, IITian professors failed to realize these exams don't mean shit unless we do something to fix, the average college of India? I am currently studying at a government school of Jharkhand and thanks to the state government my school is good enough and even better in some areas compare with private schools. The teachers of our school is also very supportive and qualified. Some have even PhD degrees. Our school is the one of the best best government schools in my entire district. Thanks god and also the government. But also these type of schools are very low in numbers. I hope it would be better in upcoming times. 🙏❤️

When I was a middle school student, we were taught “India is an agricultural country” like a Gita verse ,then I one day actually told the teacher that industrial workers gets better salary than farmers( mind it I am from an steel plant township) , the teacher actually scolded me & told me not to ask dumb question & silently sit down. Including the set of laws, such as labour laws, electoral laws, etc. Bhakra-Nangal dam, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the LIC, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, the National Library of India, National Institute of Design, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Steel PSUs in Rourkela, Bhilai, etc..... The list goes on.... these were the things that Nehru gave to India ofcourse he committed some blunders too but we should also not forget his contribution

This video truly deserves more views and shares to ensure it reaches everyone, including the Ministry of Education. Living in Bangalore, I’ve seen how school fees are skyrocketing every year. I can somehow manage these costs, but for lower-middle-class or economically weaker families, it’s nearly impossible. They are left with no choice but to enroll their children in government schools, and we’re all aware of the challenges in govt schools. Thank you, Mohak, for shedding light on this crucial issue. It needs widespread discussion, and robust reforms must be implemented as soon as it can be.
No doubt that Nehru commits some blunders and falults but we should also not foget that he hold this country sovereignty when it was looted for around 200 years continuously, it's not easy to run a growing country rather than a stable country, so I've respect for him.

Nehru's biggest fault was to not allow proper free speech like US 1st amendment and UCC in this country. Simple reason for India not focusing on basic things like primary education (and you can apply same reason for healthcare, environment, R&D, population etc). Inaugurating IIM and IITs will give you votes and help in election campaign whereas things China's method will lay a strong foundation and have effect in long terms which might not be beneficial for political parties to appeal for votes.
I don't know why but after watching this video I am feeling enraged that the leaders of our nation are not taking the necessary steps to address the challenges we face. The saying "where there's a will, there's a way" holds true, but the real problem here lies in the lack of political will and genuine concern. It’s high time that citizens demand the politicization of education in a constructive way-ensuring that power is entrusted to those who prioritize and actively work towards improving the education system!!

The wider problem is that Indian government Didn't gave any financial suport to small businesses resulting in few businesses becoming very big like reliance, tata or adani etc. But now many Indians specially rich are leaving the country resulting in both capital and labour shortage to existing small companies. So many small companies are going to close down in next 10-15 years, India might go bankruptcy in severe case.
We recognised msmes in 2006-07 and yes we don't pour money into them. Turns out when you spend decades painting business as evil and burning money in subsidy to farmers that refuse to diversify, you don't have a good consumer economy.
People are unemployed or doing some jobs like peon, watchman etc, the reason behind this is not being uneducated its because of not having the skills that our market demands, our govt should focus on making our youth not only educated but skillful.

Thanks for this insightful video. I'm from IIT, and I do want to contribute to the development of the country. But, having peers in the US and earning way more than the ones who stayed here, makes me want to go there. For IITians, the easiest way to get better living standards, money & similar technical peers - is to go to the Silicon Valley. I would personally consider my self of having lived a successful life when I have enough money to allow my kids to settle anywhere in the world AND have contributed to the home country India to make it more developed country where even the lower class people to have access to the clean environment and sufficient economic condition to be able to live a respectful life.

Hii I am from Odisha I can say ..here the educational system is quite good ...the initiatives by Our Ex - CM Sri Naveen Patnaik has contributed a lot to it .. Through "Mo School Abhiyan"... building 5T school with hitech classroom and facilities has made interest in students and parents to send to public school .. One of the major for which I am proudful is our ODISHA ADARSHA VIDYALAYA it is there in each and every block of our odisha providing the best education for rural students from class 6-12 ...(I was a student of it and just loved the system and curriculum which made me better) I think Mohak Mangal should mention on this...

I am a student from IIT Patna. Here also the system is messed up. Although students are well-learned in core- technical skills they end up taking IT jobs. The college lacks facilities and mindset to make students feel safe in taking an entrepreneurial career. Although nehru thought that IITs will create advanced tech and make us less dependent on other countries, I can assure you IIT Patna like many IITs have failed to do that. They are just creating workers for some random IT companies. Core Branches have lost all the values... Moreover the current Dean is the worst in our history. He is making sure everything goes in a bad way.
This is the core problem, I did my BTech from govt university that comes under NIRF top 40, but unable to got placed in core companies, now I worked at United Kingdom as an AI Engineer. Problem , I lost that confidence that I could get a core electronics job.

What Indian Govt. should do immediately is make schools functional and get the best teaching staff. I don't care if the schools give free laptops or whatever but it is very important that schools are functional with clean water, electricity and timely maintenance of public school property. Get the best in class teaching staff who can teach properly without being dramatic or throwing books at kids or whatever. Actual teachers who can teach and also themselves learn through teaching and enhance their teaching methods or do things differently for different needs as necessary. No paper-work. Just do one job right and that is teach properly. .
I studied in Christian missionary school. They did not convert anyone. Classmates of all religions were treated equally and also they are considered some of the finest schools in the country. Institutes like Don Bosco have produced several leading figures in the country.

Nehru atleast tried to do his best and created world renowned institutions, the other prime ministers are responsible to make the primary education system better. You might be right that government schools are not in good condition, but we must appreciate schools like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which provide free education, residency, food, books, and daily necessities to the students (80% reserved for rural students). As a postgraduate from AIIMS and the first doctor from my family, this school was a blessing for me. And its not just me more than 90% of alumni from jnv are doing well in their life. The JNV system has been a remarkable educational experiment, empowering thousands of rural students to break socio-economic barriers and achieve their dreams, proving that with the right opportunity.

I am a student at one of these so called top colleges, can confirm that most of the freshers of these colleges comes from well to do families. While on other hand students from normal families struggles to do so because of such poor foundation, either spend large amount of money to get coaching for these colleges or forget the dream of such colleges. IITs might produce top engineers, but at what cost? The intense pressure and toxic competition drive so many teenagers into depression, and some tragically don’t make it out. Our education system treats students like machines programmed for entrance exams, not curious minds meant to explore and innovate. Maybe it's time to ask-are we creating world-class engineers or just emotionally drained individuals chasing ranks? Success shouldn’t come at the cost of mental health.

But since him, no one seems to have done much on strengthening the Indian education scene. Yet their focus has never been on upgrading and spreading quality education. 10 years turn a new born into a 10 year old and a 10 year old into a 20 year old. The implementation is state specific and not center specific because the centre has control over only kendra vidyalayas. Infrastructure is mostly MLAs responsibility and each state has their own syllabus (from 1950s) which is generally not changed by any party as a lot of controversies arise when a syllabus is changed. For CBSE and ICSE, (i myself am an ICSE student) has 75% irrelevant and wrong information in their textbook. And me being from kerala, I can assure you our 95% literacy rate means nothing because a 10th std gov kid WILL get atleast 80% even if they don't know basic multiplication and division. My point? Reforms in democracy is hard, especially when people themselves (including the "educated" ones) are unaware of how the country actually runs

We literally have to take education policy seriously.
Just constructing big buildings for college is not sufficient we need high tech labs and to do work in such labs we need really dedicated and research oriented faculty.
We are lacking a researcher approach rather than focusing only on packages students got from IIT. I have rarely seen a news article about research work done in IIT which is impacting internationally but students getting 1 Cr package in google is what a proud moment for us (no doubt students getting 1 Cr is very hardworking and he deserves that) but why we are not focusing on developing an education culture where students can form their own Google.
There are lots of problems
1) Political Will
2) Most Colleges are owned by politicians. And the main problem is they use clg staff for their work during elections.
3) Entry of private players to gain profit ( no doubt if they are working they should get profit but there should be a limit)
4) Thinking of society. People see education as a financial investment so they want a huge return from that.
5) And the last is the Student itself. They don't want to study at all.

Well I don't agree with your last point. If students have a good teacher then the teacher is going to make the student want to learn. The problem is the notion that studying is boring but trust me it's not. In fact it's quite interesting and can be made more interesting depending on how the teacher teaches. What is boring is rote memorization.

That is a really flawed logic, there is always gonna be a hierarchy in colleges in any country, the same is the case in china and USA too, the problem is not that IIT's are the top institutions of the country, but other colleges like ITI's and state universities (except DU ofc) are so bad in comparison that not getting into IIT/NITs is seen as a career death by many people

In China, they first created hundreds of quality Public STEM colleges and then upgraded. Now they're in top 100.
But Nehru"s ndia created premium institutions at the very beginning without any base and thus such top educated elites were out of touch with ground reality, it was no longer for them and consequently they went to US.

IITs and NITs need to be diluted so that everyone who wants good technical education, gets it without putting themselves through hell.
Old IITs need to be diluted to produce at least 10 IITs per state, and old NITs need to be diluted to proceed at least 1 NIT per district.
I am a mechanical engineer, did 5 internships, published 3 papers and 1 patent and am currently working on R&D activities in a global industrial group. I had to graduate from a "Tier 3" college because my government can't be bothered to guarantee a decent technical education to me without me "proving" my "aptitude" through Maths, Physics & Chemistry (that I rarely use in my work today).
I work in R&D while IITians and NITians in my office work on drawing creation, CAD updates and product lifecycle management work.

It is quite literally the reason, the budget is skewed to favour institutions of national importance; A top down approach as rightly pointed out in the video, the indian education system failed due to an initial focus on higher education, IIT's are merely the symptom of said focus. You can't mention one without the other.
Yes they did, most engineers come from non-IITs, and the engineering exam was developed by IITians, how decades after decades of failures, IITian professors failed to realize these exams don't mean shit unless we do something to fix, the average college of India?

I am currently studying at a government school of Jharkhand and thanks to the state government my school is good enough and even better in some areas compare with private schools. The teachers of our school is also very supportive and qualified. Some have even PhD degrees. Our school is the one of the best best government schools in my entire district. Thanks god and also the government. But also these type of schools are very low in numbers. I hope it would be better in upcoming times. 🙏❤️

When I was a middle school student, we were taught “India is an agricultural country” like a Gita verse ,then I one day actually told the teacher that industrial workers gets better salary than farmers( mind it I am from an steel plant township) , the teacher actually scolded me & told me not to ask dumb question & silently sit down. Now after so many years, I was actually correct in my question just I framed it a bit wrong…I should have asked “ why not use industrial agricultural machines & make farming more mechanised to get greater output per hectare scale than using slow animals & labourers as a slave ???

Including the set of laws, such as labour laws, electoral laws, etc. Bhakra-Nangal dam, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the LIC, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, the National Library of India, National Institute of Design, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Steel PSUs in Rourkela, Bhilai, etc..... The list goes on.... these were the things that Nehru gave to India ofcourse he committed some blunders too but we should also not forget his contribution

Nehru's biggest fault was to not allow proper free speech like US 1st amendment and UCC in this country. Simple reason for India not focusing on basic things like primary education (and you can apply same reason for healthcare, environment, R&D, population etc). The wider problem is that Indian government Didn't gave any financial suport to small businesses resulting in few businesses becoming very big like reliance, tata or adani etc. But now many Indians specially rich are leaving the country resulting in both capital and labour shortage to existing small companies. So many small companies are going to close down in next 10-15 years, India might go bankruptcy in severe case.

Thanks for this insightful video. I'm from IIT, and I do want to contribute to the development of the country. But, having peers in the US and earning way more than the ones who stayed here, makes me want to go there. For IITians, the easiest way to get better living standards, money & similar technical peers - is to go to the Silicon Valley.
I would personally consider my self of having lived a successful life when I have enough money to allow my kids to settle anywhere in the world AND have contributed to the home country India to make it more developed country where even the lower class people to have access to the clean environment and sufficient economic condition to be able to live a respectful life.

One of the major for which I am proudful is our ODISHA ADARSHA VIDYALAYA it is there in each and every block of our odisha providing the best education for rural students from class 6-12 ...(I was a student of it and just loved the system and curriculum which made me better)

I am a student from IIT Patna. Here also the system is messed up. Although students are well-learned in core- technical skills they end up taking IT jobs. The college lacks facilities and mindset to make students feel safe in taking an entrepreneurial career. Although nehru thought that IITs will create advanced tech and make us less dependent on other countries, I can assure you IIT Patna like many IITs have failed to do that. They are just creating workers for some random IT companies. Core Branches have lost all the values...
Moreover the current Dean is the worst in our history. He is making sure everything goes in a bad way.
This is the core problem, I did my BTech from govt university that comes under NIRF top 40, but unable to got placed in core companies, now I worked at United Kingdom as an AI Engineer. Problem , I lost that confidence that I could get a core electronics job.

I agree with you but the issue with core is harsh working condition. I work in one of the best core company on India yet the situation there is horrendous. Being posted at a faraway place with no facilities or life. Thus people opt it over core
What Indian Govt. should do immediately is make schools functional and get the best teaching staff.
I don't care if the schools give free laptops or whatever but it is very important that schools are functional with clean water, electricity and timely maintenance of public school property.
Get the best in class teaching staff who can teach properly without being dramatic or throwing books at kids or whatever. Actual teachers who can teach and also themselves learn through teaching and enhance their teaching methods or do things differently for different needs as necessary.
No paper-work. Just do one job right and that is teach properly. .

I tried harder and improved students handwriting , silly mistakes, way of learn, shorted answers and focus on points rather than expecting 1 page answer of long quesitons which will not impact any significant role in life.
