I put mine in the drawer with oranges and to my surprise they were still good after several weeks. Now I know why.:) Keep your smiling face and continue being the sweet you!
My New fav food channel... you are delightful. I'm guessing you are having such a good time partially due to whoever's filming it is entertaining you. It looks so natural and fun that you're happy thank you
just store in the fridge w/o water. it works. lasts way longer. i let mine sit on counter for a few days and then, while still firm but just beginning to have some give, they go in fridge. perfection!
I think the main issue is people trying to store cut avocados in water...as long as you wash them, keep them whole, use filtered water, and don't keep them in there too long I don't think you will run into any issues. The FDA likes to be very conservative with their food safety standards...making blanket statements and being very strict with their standards is just how they approach things. It is similar as the best buy dates, which many times are very conservative. Unfortunately it also leads to a lot of unnecessary food waste as a consequence.
These hacks only work depending where you are. If you have ovacado trees, and they are not for commercial use, they fall off the trees when they are ready, they are rock hard when that happens, then leave them at room temperature and they ripen naturally. The further you live away from the source, the earlier they are picked, so if you buy them already soft, it means they are really bruised because they have been en route longer. There is no blanket solution for this. Also sorry, but it s/b has come out not has came out, as per the statement from the FDA.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the full video and getting the information I was sharing about avocados. How cool you have an ovocado tree, we spell it avocados here if you are worried about grammar. Have a great day!
@@TheCrossLegacy Yep, hail from the tropics and that happens to be the way we spelt it. But the fact of the matter is my point is legit, if you live closer to the point of origin, fruit of any kind can be left to mature naturally a bit longer, than that slated for transportation further away. So to tell a person let’s say who lives in California that buy fruit that feels a certain way when you touch it, wouldn’t be the same advice you would give to a person who let’s say lives in Northern Canada.
I’m not planning on making my fridge a storage room. It’s just me in here. Yes I find as it is significantly ripe. In the fridge it goes. So I get them on sale. This girl is so Adorable.
I use 5% distilled white vinegar that will kill off mold spores, e. coli, listeria and other harmful pathogens. Storing them with lemons will keep them fresh for a month in the fridge without getting soggy in water.
I have great luck with avocados and water. However, I wash them out in the vinegar bath first, and make sure the stem is still intact and on. I never reach my hand in the water but I use tongs to pull out the avocado and I rinse water every few days but I can see how the average person could have issues with it. 😊 if you reach in with your hands that may not be clean, don’t change water out, or if stem is missing could be a petri dish of germs 🙈
Yes there are so many reasons that it can go wrong. I personally wouldn't want to spend that much on an avocado to have it get mushy with water soaking through the skin being submerged long term.
Do I need to wait for any unripe avocados to ripen before storing? I think you mentioned something about the vinegar stopping the ripening process? So if I get a bag of avocados, I have to go through this process multiple times, as they ripen at different times?
The vinegar wash kills mold spores. Putting them in the fridge with lemons slows down the ripening process. When I am at the store I try to find the avocados that are ripe and ready to eat, not the rock hard ones. If you have rock hard ones leave them on the counter until they are ripe then put in the fridge.
Kinda grossed out that people were storing avocado in water. 🤢 Thank you for the tip of how to pick them out. I bought avocado and lemon this weekend and am happy to see that they work together lol. PS, thanks for slicing that avocado for us! 😊
I NEVER use tap water, if i have to i will boil it first or only use it in a coffee maker. You take your life in your hands when you drink water from the tap or use it without boiling it or purifying it. Tap water is aweful. i have two pet rats and their water containers get slimy on the inside every day when i use filtered tap water (brita or pūr type filter). But when i use poland spring water from a 16 ounce bottle, no slimey residue at all. Take a paper face mask and run water from a tap to see the garbage in your water. Also, take a white paper towel and wipe the underside of your faucet (where the water comes out). It will be filthy.
@nancychandler768 hope you can find value here, I do have a neurological issue that I can swap words in my speech and processing of a word especially when it starts with the same first letter. But even though I have disability I am always kind and over the 3 years of teaching people how I keep my grocery budget down I have helped millions of people.
Why do you NOT wash your produce your produce when you bring it home? I wash everything in vinegar and water before I put it away. It makes everything last longer, especially any kind of berry. I'm not buying lemons just to give my avocado a buddy. Wash it and throw it in the water. easy.
Hi Jeanne, I have over 250 videos on here talking about how I do wash produce, have a best selling book on washing produce and even a tedtalk on the importance of washing produce. This video is talking about the importance of NOT storing avocados in water, I do still wash avocados.
Haha absolutely ridiculous, that's like saying storing soup is not safe, nobody's storing avocadoes for months, just save the other half you cut in water till next day, it works great !
The FDA has came out? OMG! You just destroyed second grade grammar rules. Try the FDA has COME out. SMH. Well, that was 18 rambling minutes I'll never get back. 😢 Everybody always has all of these stupid time-consuming tricks that never really work that well and are a pain with a ridiculous amount of extra work. My trick is the best and easiest. Just take that half and put it in the freezer. You don't even have to cover it if you don't want to. Take it out when needed, rinse it off, and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds to unthaw it. It will look exactly like the second you left it. My method took 10 seconds to tell you how to do this and not 18 minutes. Plus, it's the best and easiest method out there. Well, I'm what you get when you have a degree in economics with a concentration in efficiency and productivity. You get the real deal! Enjoy!
I think I said a couple weeks old then when you listen to the video longer I talk about it being from the last grocery shopping trip, I only go grocery shopping once every 3 weeks. The point I was trying to get across is I used to go to the store 3 times a week to get fresh avocados and I have learned how to safely keep them fresh for a month now.

Hi Amy, we are going to try your way "Lemons and Avocados" Today is day #1, talk to you in 30 days. Rocky.
Curious 3 week results 😮
Thanks sugar!!! So helpful. LOVE your excitement! You have me motivated. Have a blessed day!!!!!
Beautiful and super useful vid! Also, your smile and bubbliness is suuuuch a pleasure to watch!! Thanks so much! Love from Australia ❤❤
Thank you
I used this hack a few weeks ago, and it works!

Avocados are porous and soaking them in water will give you a soggy mushy mess when you go to cut into them.
And now they’re trying to ban berky water filters!

I wash skin, remove pit, chop avocado, place in bowl & cover with filtered water and lid
Can you store other fruit/veggies in the crisper drawer with the lemon and avocados?
Keeping citrus and Avocados together are the best. We just did another video of what NOT to store together.
Sometimes you don’t have a choice, they are all hard.
keep them on the counter if they are rock hard
Thats what she said!
So you can just wash them with soap and water then store in filtered water 🤷🏻♀️ Idk who doesn’t wash their produce.

@@TheCrossLegacy good to know. i can ONLY ever get rock hard ones in South Florida.
Topics for future are fruits. Pineapple is my big concern. How do you tell when it’s ripe, do you wash as well and how to preserve longer?
PIneapples are ripe when you start smelling its fragrance.
Kinda grossed out that people were storing avocado in water. 🤢
Thank you for the tip of how to pick them out. I bought avocado and lemon this weekend and am happy to see that they work together lol.
PS, thanks for slicing that avocado for us! 😊
yes, it is not safe or sanitary! I'm glad that I'm able to help make sure people store them the right way. :)
How do I get your books, not familiar with Kickstarter
Oh that is a really old video you must be watching. They are now on our website www.thecrosslegacy.com/book
I’m amazed at some of the rudeness of some comments. If it is not your jam then just move on….thanks for the info….it is appreciated!! 🫶🏻💞
Wow! You sure are rude!😂
Yes it works very well
When just store the lemon next to the avocado in a jar after washing both and that helps make last longer?
Just storing avocados and lemons together in the crisper drawer help them last longer. They don't need to be put into a jar until they are cut.
Do u wash the avocados 🥑 like you do the strawberries 🍓 ? I didn't catch how you washed them.
Yes 1/4 cup of 5% distilled white vinegar to 10 cups of water for 2 mins. www.thecrosslegacy.com/avocados
When do you use plastic lids ?
Berries
Is it just plain White vinegar that you use? and at what ratio? Many thanks 😊
Yes white distilled vinegar 5%, 1/4 cup to a large bowl of water. Soak for 2 mins
@@TheCrossLegacy Thank you for getting back to me so quickly..😊
I wish I could se glass jars but they have a tendency to slip out of my hands and break on my tile floor. 😟
@milsauceda1147 Even carrying them with 2 hands?
Perfect tip!
Is there a recipe for Avocado if you re not fond of AVOCADOS?
I put them in smoothies for some of my family and they don't notice.
Could you show us on a video a hack how to store silverbeet?
Oh yes I will see if I can pick some up this summer at the produce stand.
Great hacks....I will use.
Glad to hear it, you're welcome! I have over 300 videos on my channel with lots of other great hacks too!
@@TheCrossLegacy Cool beans!
Why metal lid on the avocado
Because they are completly airtight where plastic lids are not.

Yes
Uh, what if you just wash the avocado so you don't have to worry about what was on the surface??
Washing would be a step up from keeping them dirty but water will still seep through and make them mushy.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
