Very nice vase Steve. I too have the Elbow tool from Tim Yoder. And the Wedgie sled makes short work of cutting accurate segments. Very nice touch with the black veneer between segments. That sure sets off the Jatoba. Looking forward to your next project. Thank you for sharing.
Glen - I've wanted to pick up the Elbow tool for a while now. I needed a project that would convince the better half that it was a "need" and not a "want". LOL I appreciate you watching and commenting on my video. Take care, Steve
Hi Carl thank you for showing us everything from the start, I love to see it all in detail. These vessels are just amazing and breathtakingly stunning.
Thanks for put up this video Steve. It’s fun to see and hear about different techniques that inspires turners to try new things. I am looking forward to giving a stave segmented project a go. The vessels came out great.
William - Thanks for the comments. A staved vessel was on my list for a long time. It was worth the effort. Good luck with your project. Take care, Steve
David - Thanks for the message. Unfortunately life can get in the way of doing fun things. I'm hoping to start turning again one day and will post more videos. In the meantime I'll watch other talented turners on UA-cam. Take care, Steve
Hey Steve that is a beautiful piece - I just had a niece pass and I got an idea , using your idea for an urn for her - so thank you for the inspiration 🙏🏻 BTW where did u get the blue cone for centering the segs at ? Alrighty thanks again for your videos and wonderful works. God Bless
Ernest - My apologies for the delayed response. I got the large cone center from Kurt Theobald's website. It currently shows it to be out of stock. You might send him a message and see if he's going to be getting any more. I put a link below. Robust and Oneway also make large cone centers but they may not fit on other live centers. Also, there are videos on UA-cam on how to turn your own. Hope that helps. Steve curttheobald.com/store/ols/products/cone-center
Hi Steve, These vases came out beautiful! I'm going to give one a try but am still "arguing" with the Greek Key feature ring! LOL So far it's feature ring 3-Tom 0! LOL Thanks for the video! Tom
Jack - Sorry for the delay in responding. I got the cone center from Curt Theobald's website. He currently lists it as out of stock but I'm sure if you send him a note he'll let you know when he'll have more. I put a link below. Take care, Steve curttheobald.com/store/ols/products/cone-center
Hi Steve - Great video! Watching you do this project answered a bunch of questions I had with this type of turning. Can you explain why you didn't use the same tenon joint to attach the top segmented portion to the staves as you did with the bottom? Aren't you worried about all the end grain? Thanks for the video. The vases are really beautiful!
Jack - Thanks for your comment and I apologize for my delay in responding. I didn't use a tenon to join the top segmented portion to the staves due to the thickness of the pieces. The stave portion and top were only about 3/8" thick which would have made it difficult to make a mortise and tenon to join the pieces. The tenon would have been about 3/16" thick whereas on the bottom there was full segmented ring to make the tenon. I hope that makes sense. At the point in the project where I was joining the two halves I didn't want to take any changes on messing it up. There's not a lot of stress on the joint so I'm not overly concerned about the end joint to segmented ring glue joint. Thanks again. Take care, Steve
Robert - Thank you for your comment. I purchased the cone center from Curt Theoald's website. I put a link below. It currently shows out of stock but I'm sure if you write to Curt he can give you an idea of when they might be available. Take care, Steve curttheobald.com/store/ols/products/cone-center
Danny - Unfortunately life gets in the way of things that are more fun. I'm on a break from turning and from You Tube. I hope to get back to it sometime in the future. Thanks for the comment and for checking in. Take care, Steve
Steve, thank you for this project, I am making my first stave vessel, so I am at the same point where you start this video. Question, where did you get your large live center? Thanks, Chuck
Chuck - My apologies for not responding to your message. I got the cone center from Curt Theobald's website. I put a link below. It looks to be out of stock so you might want to message Curt and see if he plans to restock. Again, sorry for the late response. Take care, Steve curttheobald.com/store/ols/products/cone-center
Hi Steve, I watched these series of videos at least a half a dozen times and always ask myself why you didn't use solid pieces for the top and the bottom? How many process of attempting this so any help you can give me would be great. Thanks. Tom
Thomas - You can absolutely use solid wood for the top and bottom pieces. I like to do segmented turning so I used a segmented top and bottom. Good luck with your project. Take care, Steve
George - I thought I mentioned the finish in one of my clips but I must have cut that part out. The finish was Arm-R-Seal by General Finishes. I wiped on 4 coats, cut it back with 320 and wiped on a 5th coat. Once the finished dried I applied a coat of Renaissance wax. Thanks for watching and commenting! Take care, Steve

Muy muy bonitos te an quedado enorabuena 👍🇪🇸
Thank you very much!
I'm puzzled as to why you didn't when milling the wood didn't cut the top and bottom of the board with the proper angle before cutting the staves?
Great job, been meaning to ask where you got the blue oversize cone that you use.
