The music took me to another time of this life. The beauty of segmented turning brought me remembrance of joy for the now and soon to come. You are an artist who turn more than wood. Thank you. Gods blessing on your family!
Hey man... blessed the hand that works. Blessed is the heart that makes a sensitive job. Blessed one who works and shines with work. His work was wonderful. Amazing. A hug from Brazil.
Carl you have turned lots of beautiful pieces but on this one you have found the "WOW" factor. For some reason I feel we are going to see more segmented pieces coming. WOW, that thing looked better than a hot bowl of grits on a cold morning. God Bless my friend.
I have just watched your video on silent because I had heavy metal playing on the PC...I AM BLOWN AWAY! Looking forward to the commentary :) without lip reading!
There are two guys that I have been most impressed with when it comes to segmented woodturning. You Carl and a guy out of Indonesia his name is Mayuko. Just like you he is brilliant. I love both of your imaginations when building and turning.
A truly stunning piece Carl, and a very enjoyable video, loved the Far Eastern music, to get us in the mood.........for SEGMENTED TURNING!!!!! ;) Take care my friend Mike
I've been looking at making that sled for a long time. I guess it's time for me to try it. Segmented turning has always been very daunting to me as for the cats I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that happens too lol. Great genie bottle. Ken
Amazing! I've seen several segmented videos and they are where everything is glued before it goes to the lathe. A real eye opener on how it can steadily be built up as you go along. Fantastic work, even the catch just shows a pro like you can make mistakes.
Thank you, Carl. I've watched most of your uploads down through the years and this has to rank as one of your best. It's simply superb. Don't tell me about your momentary loss of concentration - I have them regularly Best wishes, Alan..
Glad you weren't hurt, and the bottle wasn't to bad. Gordon Rock did a small video on Jerry Bennett's work. Like you I'm going to order th the kit, then build the sled. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the video.
Carl I watched all the videos on the sled . Thanks for all the info on this project and a for a great looking job. You proved maybe my mistakes aren't as bad as I think ! Any way I had a good laugh at your tool control.
Nice project. I've made a few segmented turning and Jerry Bennett's sled sure make it more enjoyable. Like your genie bottle. I'll have to add this to the future projects list.
Wow! If that's your first segmented piece, you sure picked a tough one. I love it. It inspired me to maybe try my hand at it. Nothing that complicated for the first time though.
Another great project Carl! Thanks man. Segmented projects are my favorite and I'll be checking out Jerry's system for sure. They also have a device called The Stomper for glue-ups. Supposedly its very accurate and doesn't tie up the lathe while the glue is drying.. Thanks again for all you provide. All the best, Charlie
Great project. I've been using the wedgie sled and Jerry bennetts wedgies for awhile now. Perfect fitting segments first time with no setup. Love it. Can't wait to see someone do a detailed video of the tilt segment design
I wish I'd never watched that,as now I'm just going to have to have a go at one! Another job on the "to do" list :)Beautiful job Carl. Take care, Keith.
For a first in segmenting that is superb Carl, a great choice of music added to the project.....pass the hookah lol. Thanks for sharing and cheers for now, Bram.
Great project Carl! I'm excited to see where segmented turning takes you! I have enjoyed your videos for quite a few years and have started segmented turning recently. If your still open to project suggestions, I'd love to see something with staves...maybe a vase with a narrow opening at the top or something? Thanks for all you do for wood turning!!
+Carl Jacobson hi Carl. No, the ones I'm referring to are basically long vertical segments cut on an angle, or compound angle. Envision a tall vase with for instance 8 long segments making up the entire height of the vase...does that are sense? I've read about this type of project in a couple different segmented turning books but I haven't figured out how to do it yet..
Seriously? Your first segmented turning? Well, that's a beautiful job, Carl! But then that's what we expect from you so why would I be surprised? I hope to see more segmented work from you, if only to drive Mike Waldt crazy! LOL. Take care, my friend, .....Gord
M Bouchez Roger. "France".
Now you just need a genie! (the trick will be stuffing it in there LOL) Beautiful piece, Carl! Love that sled! I've seen Jerry's videos and I'm dying to give this a shot. ... soon. :) Cheers!
First, can I mention how much I love your music choice?? (or does someone else gets the credit??), I've been undecided about segmenting, thinking I was too lazy to go into it, but with that new sled design, it's segmenting done easy. I will make one of those, and make some random segmented rings to get the feel for it. Also, in your follow up you've mentioned you're not sure why you use the blade facing sides of each fance to do the cutting instead of switching it inside the wedge space, isn't it so you will always be pushing with something against the cutting piece instead of holding it down and forward with your hand when you cut with the forward fence? And to top it all off, that is a beautiful vase, even if it doesn't hold a wish granting entity, unless your wish was to make a beautiful segmented vase, and in that case, it came true, especially with that slight oriental design. Thank you for sharing!! :) (Those bar attending leprechauns are everywhere, I tell you, EVERYWHERE!!!)
+Yuval Lahav Thank you so much Yuval! Robin gets credit for the music she picks it out for all the videos. I think your right about the sled fence. Take care, Carl
Great looking project Carl. Those segments turned out perfect. I'm hoping this year I might be able to get myself a bandsaw as I don't have space for a tables aw and think a bandsaw should be more useful for turning etc. The sled should still work great with a bandsaw as long as it's tinned right. Pity about the catch but it happens everyone and good idea to leave it in the video. Martin.
Martin, I made a sled like that to cut segments and it works on either the table saw or the bandsaw. you waste less wood on the bandsaw but you have to sand more.
Great job ,like the drum sander for surfacing , fancy getting one , i like the set up on the lather too , must have been done over a few days ??? ( glue up and dry time ??) great shape too 10/10
Carl Jacobson to me i think thats ur best ive seen..no offense and with ALL DUE RESPECT. just the way u did it and how it turned out etc...SO AWESOME!!!!☆☆☆☆☆
The music took me to another time of this life. The beauty of segmented turning brought me remembrance of joy for the now and soon to come. You are an artist who turn more than wood. Thank you. Gods blessing on your family!
