It actually might’ve been teased a bit in sonic movie 1 there was this quote that said “there has always been a Wachoski protecting green hills for more than 50 years
Literally… they’ve been building him up for years now. I hope it pays off.

Yo If Tom wachowski’s Grandfather was the one who killed Maria before he became a sheriff then that would be a crazy plot twist and a huge foreshadowing
While I agree and am aware of the 50 years ago Wachowski legacy in Green Hills, I also have to mention that Sonic Movie 1 has some weird throwaway time references which could easily explain the “50 years ago” line as being meaningless. I’m specifically referring to two points in the movie where different characters said that something happened “20 minutes ago.” This was said by Commander Walters and Doctor Robotnik. In either case, there was no special reason why the events being referenced would need to have happened 20 minutes ago. This and the fact it happened twice (“20 minutes ago” just being a highly generic and cliche sounding amount of time for some event to occur in the immediate past tense) leads me to think there wasn’t much thought put into detailed timelines and the “50 years ago” line would also fit into that category. You might wonder: Why do I have such a cynical idea about a movie series I love? Well what about how in the first movie, Sonic had an obsession with talking to himself and more importantly giving people nicknames. This was completely forgotten about in the second movie, even when they could have worked it in to Sonic naming Miles Prower by what is canonically a nickname given by Sonic, Tails. This would have been so delightful and was pretty disappointing to me it didn’t happen so in the end I don’t think the writers are going for that level of detail hence while I hope you’re right about the 50 year thing, I don’t think it’s likely.
That would be an interesting storyline for the movie. Maybe Tom or Maddie would try to redeem shadow in the movie
I have a feeling the “alien visitor” at the bowling tournament was probably his capsule crash landing when he reached earth.

Sometime I heard someone say online that from being so much of a major fan of Shadow, the director (Jeff Fowler) has been wanting Shadow to be in the SCU ever since they made the first Sonic movie. So it looks like the people behind the production of those Sonic movies truly have been planning for the Ultimate Lifeform's movie debut to be able to happen and putting out dialogue that only us fans would believe are hints to Shadow's eventual apperance in the movies.

I’m so friggin excited for this film!
The GUN commander is, besides Shadow, the only other living surviving of the assault on the ARK.
So of course he knew.
As for the reference in the knuckles TV Show. Well, his capsule had to land somewhere after Maria ejected him off the ARK.
Guess now we know the ballpark of where he crashed.
He must know about maria being killed.
Also in the first movie the final destination for Sonic and Tom was San Francisco and that’s where Sonic and Shadow first met in SA2. Might worth rewatching both movies clues were right in front of people the whole time.

it's never really established that GUN picked Shadow up right after he fell. They could do a whole thing with Shadow's capture after crashing the escape pod, while dealing with what he's just witnessed.

i just hope that Paramount does not make shadow a silly character. yeah Sonic and Knuckles can make jokes on his seriousness/goth or emo personality but i damn pray Shadow does not become jokes and stuff like that.

Honestly I really don't think they're talking about Shadow the Hedgehog, i really think it was a reference to black doom 3 reasons for this, 1 shadow the hedgehog isnt technically an alien he has alien dna tho from black doom, and shadow is also red, 2 anytime anyone in the show or movie who has referenced one of these characters like sonic knuckles or tails they will almost always describe them as looking like some sort of animal sonic a hedgehog tails a fox, so do you really think theyd reference shadow as a alien? And 3 black doom is an alien and he was there 50 years ago as well and hes almost entirely black little to no red on him
