Not always. This was a legit problem back in the day. people thought fairies stole their children and replaced them with changelings. Man even killed his wife once thinking she was a changling and thinking the fairies would bring his real wife back. So mothers don't always know. Mental health is a real problem.
I saw this movie last night, it is in my "40 movies Clint Eastwood box". I had never heard of this story. Angelina Jolie's performance had me cry several times along the movie. I have rarely seen such good acting. Powerful and unexpected. Best actress ever.

Really good acting. Made me cry. Based on true story? Makes me hate the government even more when police do these fake things to say 'case is solved'. It doesn't help the corruption of police when there are Freemason agents in the police departments.

In real life they, the cops and the detective, knew something was sketchy about his, Arthur’s, story but they were so desperate to close the Walter Collin’s case they just took his word for it

I feel bad for the imposter boy. Just a young child who was easily manipulated by the corrupt police. No immediate family either. Poor kid...
