They say marriage is for companionship. If person is so old. Won't he die. What will happen to the wife outliving. Won't that defeat the purpose. So woman of that era will have old age and no support.

I agree, but I reserve a little doubt as men were capable of being monsters being the same age as his wife. Once your daughter became 18, an older man is just a man. And if he is kind, he is gold.

Phillepe sound like such a red flag yet radiates so many green flag. Eventhough he loved a young lady, he still respect her, doesn't cross boundaries and is patience and still accept her eventhough she got impregnated by a guy of her age who knows no boundaries.

Since this movie is based off early 1900s, 1914 I guess, people married really young then, so it makes sense.

The Well Digger's Daughter, it is a remake of a movie of the same name made in 1940. A WWII romantce/drama. Lets be honest, times may have changed, but people haven't.

it’s still happens in America it’s called unwed mothers homes.
Happens in every country with a large population or religious nuts.
Don't know where you are from, but it doesn't happens in my culture (yes, Indian here as well).
