- In today's mario kart video we are going to look at the origin, secrets, timeline, story, lore, mysteries, mechanics, cups, tactics, tricks, characters, karts and history of the mario kart series made by nintendo. Throughout the years there have been a lot mario games like super mario world, super mario 64, super mario sunshine, new super mario bros, super mario galaxy, super mario 3d land, super mario 3d world, mario kart 8 deluxe, mario kart 7, mario kart wii and not too long ago they released the new super Mario odyssey for the nintendo switch which has all kinds of new characters like cappy and locations like the sand kingdom, new donk city and bowsers kingdom. In these games we have seen enemies like baron brrr, king bob-omb, torkdrift, mechawiggler, knucklotec, robobrood, dry bowser, shadow mario, broodals, koopalings, bowser jr and a lot more. however are any of the mario games even fair? Does the AI/CPU cheat? Well let’s find out if this is true!

I'm pretty sure there is a reason as to why almost everyone uses Funky Kong + Flame Runner in Mario Kart WII.

No, I'm talking about Mario Kart Wii. Also Daisy + Mach Bike is another rally good combination that is about 2nd place when it comes to perfect combinations that everyone uses.
Key word: extremely. The combination is not extremely overpowered it's just better than the other combinations; it's the fastest combination so people use it in time trials no duh, and online racing comes down to item use, driving skill, and a small element of luck so most people use Daisy and Funky Kong since everyone is about the same skill level and that speed you're losing out on could make you lose.

I always wondered why my friend was so great at Mario Kart... she’s been using daisy the whole time.
I’ve switched between characters a lot, and actually increased my playing skill, so now I have no issue beating her with Peach, Toadette, Rosalina, or Mario.
Ultra shortcuts? Thunderclouds? Wheelies vs snaking? The quacker having two world records?
I'm pretty sure the Quacker's wrs are on grumble volcano and mushroom gorge, for which they are better due their hitbox I think? But its not that practical for regular racing.

Well, he mainly did the home-console titles. Handhelds weren't really included, which is a shame but it still works fine.

@@RookCooks MKDS was pretty balanced, but you go into orbit if you barely scratch a heavyweight as a featherweight. MK8 Deluxe kinda counts and is the most balanced to date.
Charkit deluxe is not balanced, good players should end up 1st instead of being last because they got plumited by every kind of shell out there
@@RookCooks Deluxe is very well balanced. It's perfectly balanced compared to MKWii for example. Item distribution is pretty good in Deluxe, and getting back to first from last isn't a challenge, unless you're opponents are literal masters at the game.
Not a fan of you leaving out the handheld titles here. Yes, they resemble the home console games in some ways, but it's not a huge resemblance, and Mario Kart DS and 7 are two of the most popular titles in the whole series, as well as ones which introduced quite a few new mechanics and interesting changes to the formula. Add to this how influential Super Circuit was in its time, and it feels wrong to leave out three important games like this.
And well, the AI has some really odd unfair aspects in finishing order and times too. Take a shortcut in a Mario Kart game (an unintended, glitch one) and watch the AI suddenly beat the world record for every track you're on because of how they use your 'impossible' time as a base.
Add to this a few other things you didn't mention (the introduction of coins as items in 8 was definitely unfair, since it meant you were often unable to defend yourself at all), and I feel the video doesn't really cover the games that well.
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh.
yeah mario kart ds and 7 were amazing besides they didnt have alot of rubberbanding and amazing controls and items (unless u were doing 150cc,no)
7, in particular, committed the cardinal sin of combining rivals with 64's rubber banding (albeit in a somewhat weaker state to reduce the odds of having a Bowser's Castle situation, though it's still likely on certain tracks) and smarter AI. Oh, and the Miis.
I would definitely argue that the home console MK titles are more we’ll know than the handheld ones, I mean, I’ve played plenty of MK and I’ve never even heard of Mario Kart Circuit lol, anyways, they still are MK games, maybe they deserve their own video

I know this is an old video but to any commenters, hear me out:
1. I’m pretty sure the handheld games don’t work like that. With different items, character AI, vehicle/character stats and more, that’s not the case. Just say you couldn’t capture handheld footage and go.
2. If you’re only talking about console games and not handhelds, why skip MK8 and go to MK8D? Considering the Switch is half-handheld and the Wii U version came first.

I liked the video but i disagree with saying that the Wii version is more fair. The blue shells in that game were extensive, Bikes were obviously superior to karts, and Funky Kong was the best character. 8 deluxe is definitely more fair that that game

blue shells by design are made to keep 1st from breaking away every race. imo they shouldn't be quite AS powerful as they were in mkw but i don't think they were unreasonable. Blue shells in mkw are not much more frequent than in other games (usually 1-2 per race) which isnt so bad. bikes are superior but it doesnt really matter what vehicle you chose in offline grand prix since you could win using whatever vehicle you were able to drive well enough with. idk how u say mk8d is fair when 1st place is punished for driving better than everyone else. if you get a decent break from 2nd then you will have to deal with 100 red shells which cant be stopped by a banana and a coin.
Ryan astor well atleast you get the mach bike and the flame runner 2 of the best veichles in the game from the start and funky kong in my opinion is not that hard to get
@@myles137. - More like 1-2 per lap. They definitely overdid it with the blue shells on MKW - I think Double Dash was much better in that department (and many others). Still one of, if not my favorite in the series.

MKWII items are pretty overpowered, mainly Star, Mega Mushroom, Bombs and Blue shells (and them cataquacks but those aren’t items)

Wii being fair? You’re joking. It’s my favourite game in the series and the reason why I like it so much is because it’s unbalanced and chaotic.
Double item boxes don’t make the games unfair. Everyone can get them. It doesn’t mean it’s instantly worse due to the existence. Double items add a entire layer of mind games. You can have a red shell on backup and act like you don’t and fake out the leader or anyone. It improves the meta of the game and makes the skill ceiling higher. Yes, rng will always make the games have a element of randomness which removes the need of skill in some situations, but that doesn’t make the game unfair. Just like a battle royale game 99% of the time the best player in terms of skill will win. And that 1% of the time you can call it unfair.
Is it just me or does it look like Mario Kart Wii have a sepia haze on it and in Mario Kart Double Dash, it's actually possible to out run a red shell. If you speed boost before it hits you, it gives up and just sits there
Yeah, MKWii looks like there is a weird filter on it. I think they tried making realistic lighting effects but as a result the game looks a lot less colorful and, in my opinion, less appealing.

I honestly couldn't even make it through 3 minutes of this video, the way he draws out syllables in every sentence is so grating. Also not including the handheld games is such a cop out, they were just as important as the console games, especially DS and 7 which introduced so many new things to the series that became staples, you clearly were too lazy to get footage of the handhelds.

Mario Kart Wii...most fair? That's a laugh and half. That game is broken to all get out. Bikes are hilariously better than karts, items like POW blocks, triple red shells, lightening bolt and Bullet Bill are way too easy to get, not to mention secret stats that every character has Funky Kong has the highest handling stat and putting him on a sports bike gives him even more practically making him the best choice to play at all times.

Also the item distribution is flat-out broken. It was NOT adjusted to account for those extra 4 racers, meaning there's almost *double* the number of people rolling for blue shell and lightning bolts. The idea that item handling in this game is fairer than its peers is objectively false.
I agree. When we went from MKW to 8, we were laughing about how easy MK8 was comparatively. The AI was much easier to beat, you didn't get bombarded with items at the end of the race if you were in first, and there weren't 3+ blueshells per race. In MKW, the AI in 200cc from Mariokart 8 would have been in 100cc for Mariokart Wii. Now, after playing Mariokart 8 for a while, when I go back and play Mariokart Wii, it's so hard to win. 150cc is just about impossible. It's honestly ridiculous how easy they made Mariokart 8.
SideShowBatt correction Funky Kong has the best speed stat in the game cuz he has access to the two fastest bikes in the game the Spear/Torpedo And Flame Runner/Bowser Bike Plus he has a Plus two Speed stat the title of best handling stat goes to Daisy and the Mach Bike aka Sports Bike in MK8 and MK8D since Daisy has a Plus 3 handling and Drift stat
LEDAfterBurners yep that’s true since I play both MKWii and MK8D quite often so I suffer from sharp difficulty difference from MK8 and MK8D to MKWii yeah it’s almost difficult to win 150CC GP’s in MKWii if you’ve been playing either MK8 or MK8D more recently then MKWii

Every Mario kart after the Wii was extremely unfair to you if you were 1st place. The every shell will hit you no matter where you are. Even if you're in a place where you don't control your cart. I think Mario kart DS is the most fair and the best because a skilled player could snake, and snaking in some places are extremely difficult to master.
For me MK64 items wise was most fair. You were rarely ever to see a blue shell. So when it came it was fair. Thunder didn't happen too often either. The further back players were catching up using mushs and stars most times and once in a while they'd get triples. I've never been annoyed by the item system. Yes rubberbanding was horrible on lower speeds but I think it's effect was to max speed out at 150cc because It was extreme at 50cc, subtle at 100c and I don't remember it being a issue at 150. They were just alot better. But I was able to easily create giant gaps they've never closed
Mario Kart DS does seem pretty fair. The rubber banding isn’t terrible, items are fairly distributed, there are no random speed boosts.

I think the special items in MKDD really gave it a strategic playstyle, the big banana may be less useful than the chain chomp, but are much more common and can be used very effectively if placed well.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe definitely does have rivals, I main Bowser Jr. and have every trophy. Doing that many races and Peach always being 2nd, 3rd, or 4th is NOT a coincidence. I have not been able to do a Grand Prix as Bowser Jr. without Peach as a CPU.
I’ve noticed that as well but on MK8. when I play as Toadette, Yoshi and Wario will a l w a y s be 2nd and 3rd.
8 has rivals definitely, i think all mario karts have rivals, i play Luigi and mario CPU always does so well and daisy CPU also does well

MK8 is interesting with rivals because some characters have one, some have more than one, and others don't have any at all. I use 4 characters and have been able to compare between them.
I play as Mario and Baby daisy and Peach or Lakutu or whatever would be a nuisance .
The Item system was terrible in the Wii U version of MK8.
There was a problem with coins and triple mushrooms being way too common regardless of your position and you could hold only one item even if you held that item behind you.
A lot of these problems were fixed in the port though, so if anything I suggest the Switch version of 8, not the WiiU one.
I'd say coins are still too common, especially in first place.
I've played both MK8 and MK8 Deluxe, but I've only had MK8 Deluxe for a week now, so my opinion may not be very reliable.
I'm not a big fan of how Nintendo brought back the double item system, as it's very frustrating because you're going to get bit by shells a lot more often. Whenever I play against AI, and I'm able to stay in 1st for a majority of the race, I'm usually going to get hit by about 2 blue shells per race. Not including red shells. 2 blue shells is too much. I'd be fine with 1 blue shell per race, but 2? There was a time I got hit by 4 blue shells in one race!! 4!! Not to mention the red shells, which are a huge problem as well! It's a bit tough to hold an item like a shell or a banana behind your cart, as it's very easy to accidentally let go of the button that is used (the buttons are different depending on if you're using 1 JoyCon as your controller or 2). This results in getting hit by more red shells, if the blue shells weren't already incredibly annoying!
I meant that the ability to hold 2 items (one in box an one behind you) is a positive defensively since in the Wii U version, 2nd place and lower could get triple red shells and as the player in first-third, you really have no means of preventing the loss of your position, especially due to the fact that coins exist again.
The ability to hold two items has been in every Mario Kart game except the original and Wii U version, which normally prevented you from getting two of the same item if one of those were a rare one (Blue shells, lightning, triple items etc.).
I think its more of the fact they upped the chances of getting blue shells more than anything else. I used to see 3 or more in one track quite commonly on the Wii U version. I haven't played the port though, so I don't know if it is possible to get 2 blue shells in your item inventory at the same time.
I can manage items in MK8DX perfectly. If you're always in 1st like me, ALWAYS GET THE DOUBLE ITEM BOXES. If a coin appears at your second slot, use your protecting item and coin IMMEDIATELY before you get another double item box. Repeat this until you get 2 protecting items and use them until one of them gets destroyed. Then, wait for the next double item box and restock on protection items. This can prevent coin drops, guarantee you'll never run out of items in time, and help gain the likelihood for other items such as the Super Horn, as you'll be constantly restocking for new items.
Triple shrooms are still very common in MK8 Deluxe, but I think this is fine, because it means less red shells.
However the biggest problems in MK8 Deluxe regarding the items are replacing fake boxes with coins and the changes made to the triple banana item. When you're in first place, you have a chance of almost 50% to receive a coin (and when you get a double item box, one of these items almost always is a coin). This means that you have to save your banana to dodge red shells and can't place it on the track to slow down other racers without risking losing lots of time due to a red shell hit -and so, in the first place you can't use hindering items such as bananas and fake boxes to slow down your opponents nearly as much as you could in the older games, severely limiting options for the leader. The fact that you can no longer get triple bananas in first place (and that they circle around the kart so that they're much less useful at dodging red shells) also accomplishes this.
There's also the "smart bouncing", let me explain... Smart bouncing is a system that when a green shell bounces, the game PURPOSEFULLY changes the direction of the green shell so that it hit you at about 80%-100% (hope this helps!)
Bowser / DK are actually the best in SMK, but only if you're really really good.
In Double Dash, the Giant Banana can be argued to be the best special in the game as well, depending on if you frontrun a lot. If you're the best player in a match, it's far more useful than a chain chomp for example.
Even with every special, KB / Petey aren't great because the Barrel Train is that good.
I would say 8D is the best balanced of the console games. DS/7 probably the most overall. More items honestly is more fair I'd say, and actually makes the game more skill based, mainly in matches where everyone is equally skilled at driving. You can get close to the same level of driving as many people. Many people think items = luck but it's really not the case. Effective item use is a skill, and it allows for more creative ideas than just driving with tight lines all the time. It's easier to outplay someone with smart item use than by just driving more optimally than them, because there's always an obvious solution to driving fast, where items make you think a bit more. Sure there's RNG, but learning how to abuse risk and calculate your best odds is a huge skill that can give you an edge over players of the same driving skill.

Was about to say just that for double dash, the giant banana ruled. I typically played DiddyKong and Baby Bowser and swapped them to better get their special depending on what place I was in. I *think* the giant banana still had a good chance of dropping even in a higher place.
This video is so wrong and has so many flaws in it I laughed the second I heard MKWII being called the “most fair”
I proceeded to laugh harder hearing MK8D also being called fair when they upped the chances of getting a red shell and it’s actually possible to get hit by 7 red shells one after the other.

I’m sorry but MKDS has no similarities to any Mario Kart game released around its time, and Mario Kart 8 came out AFTER 7, so if that’s the case you should’ve excluded 8.
Also instead of looking at characters, you should’ve looked at tracks and the way most of them played and looked. Because characters make a game unfair? Really now?
All you do is find a set that suits you and you can win with any racer. It’s not unfair, it’s just a lack of skill.
So I highly suggest looking at this video and thinking about making it better or at least redoing it because this is honestly a joke.
Pretty sure MK8 on Wii U let you see every racer's items at all times. I think that gives it quite a few "fair points".
mario kart ds is fairly close to double dash but even that's a stretch. also mkwii being "balanced" is the funniest joke, any time i somehow manage to win a race in 1st a blue shell somehow kills me during the results screen. by the way, 8 deluxe is rigged for first placers where all you get are coins, and very few bananas and the rarest of them all being a freaking *green shell.* 7 is pretty rigged, but it's not bad. i'd say 64 and DD have the right to mess you up with a blue, it's rare and kinda deserved.

MKWii is fair? It is the most unfair from what my experience tells me. That clip at the beginning is basically me whenever I play that game. I really don't want to hate it but it's the most annoying Mario Kart game. And I have played them all so I should have a good comparison.
True, and the worst part is that mario kart wii fans say that the item balance in mario kart 8 deluxe is worst, and maybe in some aspects are right , but they are very wrong. Do they even remember the 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and mirror mode are things that exist?

You mentioned that Mario Kart 8 introduced the concept of item drops according to current position in the race...this is inaccurate, as it's very prominent in MarioKart 64, as well as several other games in the series. I've been playing MK64 regularly since it was new (one of my fave games), and you absolutely have a much higher chance of obtaining a Starman or Lightning if you're below 5th place, and while leading, almost every item you get will be a Banana Peel or Green Shell. This is not a new concept by any means.

Mario Kart Wii is the most unfair one for sure. The rubber banding doesn't give the players speed, but overpowered items. The farther you are, the more overpowered items are. I once got 3 4 Blue Shells in one match. Mario Kart Wii is the only game where you can get 2 Blue Shells at once because of how broken and unfair the item system is.
I've never seen that from one player. I believe multiple players can get it not far off from each other but same person back to back, I've never seen. In MK8D I've been hit by 3 to 4 blueshells and atleast 2 thunders in a single race before. Also, AI always combo that crap. Ever pay attention and you'll see horns are basically useless because you'll be hit by thunder then a red shell and followed by a blue shortly after. And what makes it worse. Items follow you way better. It's near impossible to dodge some items like reds. You basically only get coins in first unless you grab a double so even if you do that, you're completely F'd because thunder always comes at the perfect times to ruin you. How many times I have a big lead or get spammed with like 3 blue shells a race is ridiculous. No joke when I say atleast 1 race every GP this happens and not being hit by a thunder and blue shell combo is damn near unheard of for me
The thing I hated even more on the Wii was that I got always struck by the lightning or something else at moments I pretty much could do nothing about it even WHEN I was actually used to the Wii's remote since I only had a Wii to play at friends' or on events
Blues are easy to deal with. I just hang around 4th until I get a blue, then I race until I am in first. If you're good, you can get bananas too, so you have some protection from reds.
mkw is the most fair and skill based game i think. There are many shortcuts and strategies to utilize to win online. you can dodge reds on corners unlike in mario kart 8 also
There can only be one blue shell every 15 seconds or at a time. This timer starts at 0 at beginning of each race. Shocks (lightning) are the same except every 30 seconds. There can only be one bullet bill at a time. You cannot get a mushroom in 1st without the shroom glitch (you use 15 items in 1st, then only get mushrooms afterwards). You cannot get a red shell in 1st either and obviously all the power items (stars, bullet bills, shocks, blue shells).
One thing that makes MKWii much less fair is the lack of invincibility frames. When going against CPUs, getting hit by a blue shell will almost always mean getting hit by at least one red shell as well

They're broken because of how easily you can chain items in bottom positions. For example: you get a golden mushroom and a star. You use your golden and right before hitting the next item box, you activate your star and have the potential to get something just as overpowered

As a Mario Kart Wii Daisy Mach Bike And Rosalina Flame Runner main I can deconfirm that MKWii is the fairest Mario Kart game it is by far the opposite because it’s the easiest game in the whole series to get Mario Karted in, therefore being very rage inducing and if you got in Online rooms prior to CTGP with very skilled Funky Kong’s , Daisy’s, Rosalina’s on all the tracks you ain’t catching them especially if you use Automatic Drifting and you can kiss your VR goodbye also if you are put in a room with Hackers of any kind your fucked prior to CTGP since hacks are banned and Mr. Bean35kvr has anti-hacker measures implemented into CTGP since some people still can find exploits within CTGP’s servers to bring hacks into online rooms hence why Mr. Bean35kvr implemented the ignorance is Bliss system into CTGP. Also on top of the Ignorance is Bliss measures Mr.Bean35Kvr and Chadderz the creators of CTGP banned the Ultra cuts in online rooms cuz if your caught doing an Ultra Cut in a Online room it results in an instant ban from CTGP. I know this much cuz I’m a MKWii Vet I just can’t get CTGP to see how much I’ve improved since the Wii Online days.

megalodon gamer well yeah, but ignoring the items and just going by character/vehicle stats, the only viable options are Funky Kong/flamerunner and Mach bike/Daisy, and then maybe a few others in VERY specific circumstances(such as using the magicruiser on icy or wet levels), because although the item spam is rough, these character/vehicle load outs make events such as being blue shelled much more manageable
I actually hate Mario Kart Wii BECAUSE of its AI. Nintendo should stand trial at the World Court in The Hague for torture because of it. It's a crime against humanity. Ditto the blue shells in the DS version; I actually bought an Action Replay solely as vengeance against Nintendo for programming such cruel AI.
The older MK games with CPU rubberbanding with pure speed, they have do this as the AI quallity was limited by the technology, meaning without it, they have no chance against the player

I think you should of had mk 7 and DS, they are easily the most fair. Also, mk8 item balancing is worse than double dash since you can get bullet bills and other power items in 2 if first has a small lead.

In MK8D getting a double item is much easyer than MKDD, especially since in MK8D you usually get a good and a bad item, like, a banana and coins, or a bomb and a shroom, or a star and a triple banana. Where in MKDD you could get a pair of chomp, a pair of triple red shell or a pair of blue shell.
MKDS was also pretty great but it really adventaged skilled players letting the ones behind fighting in the mud with a low drop of actually helpful items. To me, overall play: MK8D is the best, super serious competitive play: MKDS is where it's at.
What? I've played MKDD really a lot and I never got 2 chomps/stars/triple red shell/triple mushroom/blueshell from just one double box. When I got some of these very strong items, I always got a different one as second. For example star+chomp or star+triple mushroom/red shell or chomp+blue shell.
Also never 2 specials at the same time in general (never 2 of the big banana at the same time).
Happened to me not that often, but it does happen, overall you get a better second item in MKDD than you will in MK8D.
Dr Wily there is something I discovered in Mario Kart Double Dash, it is only possible in multiplayer, if you and another person are playing Co-op the person who handles the items can punch with the L and R buttons, the punch will move you sideways a little bit but what I actually discovered was if you punch another pair of racers that have an item you steal the item. This allowed me to be using baby Mario and baby Luigi and I stole the golden mushroom from Toad and Toadette which allowed me and my friend to win when we were in 4th place because the golden mushroom allowed us to pass the racers that were ahead of us.

Anyone who's played Mario Kart 8 and the Deluxe version can tell you there is a night and day difference between how fair they are. The ability to have two items allows for the first place player to protect themselves from red shells. This chance for one to two protection items is a HUGE difference. The Wii U version forces you to hope to God you don't get another coin from the next item box otherwise you will get red shelled

With double dash's special items, it is actually fair of how it is setup. For instance, and like you said, Donkey and diddy get the giant banana while the babies get the chain chomp as their special item but, the way it is balanced is that donkey and diddy can obtain their special in first or higher places (which can be very deadly), where as the babies can only obtain the chomp more at lower or last place. And that to me is fair but, then again when is mario kart ever fair, there's always a chance a blue shell will hit you right before the finish line in any mario kart game (except the original)

When I'm doing MK 8 online, 12 racers on GCN Baby Park is absolute chaos! I love it. Items flying everywhere. The track basically becomes a minefield.

1 if it is placed right all red shells will hit it and do nothing to the banana.
2 if a chainchomp hits it the banana breaks into small bananas that have a good chance to hit your kart and thus detach you from the chainchomp.
3 it was easier to throw it at enemies do to it's size, AND if you hit you now have 3 small bananas near if not in front of whoever you just hit!
Plus if even hit by that big thing as the hit box is insane to avoid especially if placed in strategic spots, you get an extended spinout that clips your speed down to 0.

There is one thing that I've seen in 8 deluxe, when a player touches an item box, there is a delay until you can use it, but the AI do not have this limitation, when they get an item box they get to use it immediately, I found this while doing a grand prix and it is devastating early game

Fun fact: Mario kart 8 deluxe uses both place AND distance for items. This means that when everyone is bunched up, the person in 12th gets to obtain fairly decent items like triple shells or triple mushrooms, but if everyone is more spread out and second is that far away from first the items they get aren't as powerful. Of course, power items only become common if you're far from the player in first and either more than half a lap behind or in last. To compensate for the increased number of item rolls being done, there is also now a global limit on how many copies of an item can be in play at once, more specifically that there is only 1 Spiny Shell and 3 lightning at once at most, and for the convenience of the player in first, the game also accounts for currently held items when rolling for your second item, so you NEVER wind up with double coins and so are actually LESS susceptible to being screwed over by item RNG preventing you from defending against a red shell. The game also has additional fairness against the Spiny Shell specifically, because there are several ways to mitigate and avoid it using various items, some of which can even be obtained from first, and you can even mitigate one a bit by diving while gliding (you get hit with a spin-out instead of a full knockover if you dive, because you are only hit by the edge of the blast), and if you can accurately predict exactly when lighting will be used, you can both prevent the shrinking entirely by getting yourself carried by Lakitu during the strike or mitigate the damage with a properly-timed coin item (since the item won't be destroyed by the lighting if it is currently activating, and it will refund you 2 of the 3 coins that getting hit costs you).

I think mkwii is fairer than mk8 for one reason: smartbouncing. This is when green shells bounce off walls in such a way that they aim nearby players, even if it is the person who fired the shell. This is present in mk8 and not mkwii.

-There is a glitch that lets u dodge blue shells without any items.
-The tripple red shells is a character exclusive item. As a result you can protect yourself from items most of the time.
-Lightnings are very unusual; appearing about every 5th race
-thanks to competetive techs like snaking the game is to a large extent mechanical and requires much skill.
