I definitely left out an important difference!!! 🥺🥴
    ‼️Billing ‼️
In private practice - you are given a monthly target in terms of billing hours. Eg. You must bill 168 hours in a month = 8 hours a day. That is what brings in money for the firm. They care a lot about you reaching your target and it stresses a lot of attorneys every month.
In corporate - No billable hours are required. You don’t have to worry about how much money you make for the company. Just do your work.

Thank you for the video Atle... I'm late, watching now. Thanks for exposing us to options outside of the Law firm. I'm currently working as a Compliance Specialist and I think I'm enjoying corporate. I don't have law firm experience as I'm still studying towards my LLB.
The culture in corporate is super chilled, but demanding depending on the company and its business.
Corporate also has more exposure as compared to firm's from observation, which I think I'll get bored doing one thing over and over again.

I agree with your observations ✅
I definitely recommend the experience at some point in your career. There’s also a lot to learn in a firm 🥲

Being in the Audit industry (Private sector) currently and have experienced the government sector i have picked up similarities.
I have to agree that private sector is a bit stressful however the experience i unmatched. I have learnt ALOT in an Audit firm more than when j was in government, ofcause the money in private is less but as you said gain the experience in order to be able to go do the work in Corporate.
    This was very informative

    Good Day Atli,
Oh wow what an interesting Vlog about the 2 different working spaces one can venture into as a law graduate! 😍😃This was so insightful I don't want to lie and it sounds good that to have a wholesome experience, it is really a good idea to venture into both worlds but the essence is in balancing of which stage of one's career can they do so.
I have a question: So lets say you're a practising attorney/advocate, can't you work at a corporate company and do all the work required so as to avoid the company having to outsource some of the work you spoke of that gets outsourced?
And the billing you drafted about here sounds really stressful hey... I mean I can already imagine in my head how it must be, because I remember I once had an interview years ago at one of the big insurance companies and they spoke of how they don't remunerate their employees by a basic salary but that they earn by commission of sales made! Yoh I was so so stressed hearing this🙆🙆 🙆🙆and I remember there was another candidate with me and after the interview we walked and talked about how we couldn't do this and how shy we were and that we could never cope as sales representatives because that job was too stressful for us to handle!
But listening to your dissection here, I can believe that it is a different space to work at a law firm as an admitted and practising attorney as opposed to a sales representative and it is not really impossible to succeed in.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it and I enjoyed this episode.❤

Would a corporate law firm like Bowmans be considered corporate or private practice?

      You’re Welcome 🤗
Law firms have corporate commercial departments, which specialise in corporate law. However, they are still private practices. Hope that makes sense 🌸
