The comments are talking a lot about Tormenta and so on, but in my opinion, the rpg scene really shines in the indie rpg production (like old dragon, but much more), and in solo. Every day people are publishing zines, hacks and additional materials that end up becoming new games that go somewhat unnoticed by the public that consumes traditional RPGs. These days I discovered Cova Rasa, a zine that is basically a mix of One Thousand and One Nights and The Thing, inspired by Into the Odd and Cairn. 101 games, an independent rpg label, released its solo10 rules system so that people can create and even sell games created based on it. And well, there you go. The production here is quite rich, really, and people tend to support each other a lot.

Brazil is a really power house on the RPG market that always gets forgotten because of the language barrier, but we have a lot of players, DMs, streams and Systems here.
Old Dragon for exemple is one that tries to mimic dnd.
We also have Tormenta 20, the most played RPG in the country, a mixture of dnd 3.5 and Pathfinder with our own touch. It’s going to be translated to english some day.
3DeT Victory is the first RPG of Brazil. Made to emulate anime, super heroes and other crazy powerful fantasies.
Ordem Paranormal is also one of our big names. The biggest RPG stream in the country (and one episode the biggest of the world, surpassing Critical Rolê record) is a action, horror and mystery scenario about secret agents that fight horrors form the Other Side. It is created by Cellbit and even was nominated for Streamer Awards as best independent series.
And these are just the most dampen titles. We have a lot more of indie one in the market!

It's really nice that even though you don't understand the language you've make the effort to pass the message of the system!!!
I can speak only for myself but I'm pretty sure that like me, many brazilians (and even other non native english speakers) rpg players consumes a lot of content about ttrpg in english, so it's really fantastic to see a video like your's or when critical role does a live event in theaters with exhibits in Brazil, because things like this acknowledges us as part of the community, as in the channels community, ttrpg ones and our own local ones that can share as much as we learn with others. In fact, I didn't even knew that Old Dragon was from my country and I'm going to search it right now thanks to you and Julio! So yeah, fantastic job Jorphdan, really appreciated 😅

I think I've never commented, but I'm subscribed to your channel for quite some time. Unfortunately Brazil hasn't make an RPG that really breaks out, but I really like our RPG culture, it does suffer from the same problems tho (complex rules systems being normalized and making so you only learn the hobby if you have a friend to teach you).
Recently the most popular RPG here has been a national horror one called "Ordem Paranormal", and in the 90s the RPG public was divided between GURPs and DnD players, so DnD never really grow enough to be THE NAME of RPGs. A person who doesn't know anything about RPGs will also not know the name dungeons and dragons. Old Dragon's accessibility and popularity fortunately makes a really cool step torwards more simpler systems in brazil.

In Old Dragon 2, you got only the four basic classes, but you also have specializations. For instance, a Ranger is a Thief Specialization, or a Paladin is a Fighter specialization. They use pretty much the same xp chart, but they gain different abilities on certain levels. because of the open nature of the license that Old Dragon uses, there's a dude who actualy translated Old Dragon second edition into English and sells it on drivethrurpg if I'm not mistaken. It is not an official release, though.

somebody should already have mentioned it but, in Portuguese, j makes the sound of s in measure. So it's best pronounced as "Zhulio" imo

I was sad when WotC cancelled it's plans to translate 5th Edition to Portuguese.
For all the stupid and antagonistic things that TSR (the real TSR) did, they were able to get various old versions of D&D to a lot of people who didn't speak English. And they did some cool things in other languages, that never got done in English, like the Korean D&D boxed set that bundled BECMI D&D with both Mystara and Record of Lodoss War sourcebooks. Even Japanese D&D fans, who were supported by TSR, did not get an official D&D conversion of Record of Lodoss War.
There are a lot of languages in the world. And I would love to see fans get the various SRDs translated into as many different languages as possible. Ryan Dancey and Peter Adkinson made the OGL so that D&D would not die if WotC died. In countries where WotC is not interested in making an effort to support D&D fans, the fans can work together to translate the core that underpins 3rd Edition, d20 Modern, 4th Edition and 5.1.
And next year, they will be able to translate the core that underpins 5.2 too.
I do not speak Portuguese, but if there are any people out there who run a Portuguese D&D community, I would strongly encourage you to make a space for anyone in your community who wants to collaborate with other translators on this important work.

    That was amazing!
And there are a lot. I mean, A LOT brazilian RPGs based on DnD.
The most proeminent now in Brazil are Tormenta 20 and Skyfall.
Both with roll20 sheets and the first one it rules in english on roll20.
I wish you could give it a try!

I'm not Brazilian but speak Brazilian Portuguese. Sometimes I watch Brazilian UA-cam TTRPG videos -- yeah they have Tormenta 20 and they are really starting to do their own thing. Like you said they do not need D&D. Great job Brazil!!

At this point I have more RPG books than I can play with my limited time. I'd actually prefer D&D to crash and burn tomorrow so more people can give these niche systems a chance instead of picking the "default" option.
