Boom! 😂 Then... How many wrenches? 😂😂
I haven't seen the rest of the video yet, but I'm still in stitches.
Love this humour. I'm gonna wheesht now, nit say anything, and watch the rest of the video.
But I'm still chuckling.
😂 *How* many wrenches?
I love playing with my Willy. And this Jeep looks like fun too.
First RC car I ever owned/built way back in the 80's, beat it to death pretty quickly, but the hook was in🎣 Now thousands of dollars and seems like years later, I'm still deep into RC Cars, Trucks and Drones.
3hrs to build, 3 days to paint.
Excellent kit and really fun to drive. I recommend a sport tuned motor you really don't want to put to much power in one of these.
So I got a lunchbox as my first hobby grade RC, and now I want a Wild Willy 2. I'm happy to such a good detailed video on the assembly. Here I thought it was just a Lunchbox chassis!
The body is amazing
BOOM! BOOM! I'm also puzzled why it didn't work. 😂
They're a good starter for sure and take one hell of a beating. They're a slippery slope once you start upgrading. it's very easy to have a lot of money in one in short order.
It was a manic effort to get it this far, I will leave it for a while before I return to add more detail.
Love these was my 2nd rc had mine for 20 years may even get another awesome build gav
One of the most wanted things on my bucket list to make one of these
I love that old Tamiya RC commercial. My local Tamiya shop back in the 90s had a video tape full of these and I had my own copy from them. I really loved watching those videos and loved the voice of the narrator.
The Narrator reminds me of old tv episodes of the Outer Limits or Dragnet and Stories of the Highway Patrol.
The way i was taught to remember receiver positions.....1 to Turn...2 to burn...
That's a nice quick memory jog. I always think 'Power is nothing without control', So steering comes first......
Funny, I just built a GF-01 comical avante!! 😂
I hesitated with the wild willy 2 ....
The world of RC is small, people have the same desires at the same time!!
Yep :) I did an Avante Comical myself and still have it. I only got it in for the show but it turns out I really liked it so it stayed in the collection permanently.
The wild willy is such a cool car 😊 the only thing I would change, are the rims and tyres. It looks so much cooler with the original wheels and tyres. I think that one day I need to get one of these ❤️
I’m not a big fan of massive wheelies either but after driving this little jem, I actually rather enjoyed messing around with it.
I had more fun trying to stop it from wheeling with throttle control and getting it to top speed which isn’t very fast but after running it a few times I’m glad I didn’t mess with dialing the wheelies out.
Such a great little machine
@RCKicks. Gav, love to see a future vid where you upgrade this to 4wd using the Tamiya GF-01TR chassis. 😎
I like that idea
Get Alex steel to make a wrench out of those brass bushings.
Greatest RC of all time, the original one is an 80’s icon! Thanks Gav
Hey have you built a tamiya bruiser 4wd three speed transmission mine is 2 wd in all three speed what do I need to look at?
Love this! Really need to get another Tamiya!! Only have the Hornet at the moment! 😂
😆👍 I don't see a wild Willy ('s) in my future.....
But I did learn some interesting things about the suspension arms that is going to be helpful for a ongoing scratch building project so I am always am glad I watch RCKicks. BOOM! LoL!
I'll be buying the parts tree with the suspension arms. Your builds are really helpful without being a snooze fest.
Can you make a chain from all those bushings and add a few of the ubiquitous wrenches for bling?
I had this problem on an m03 chassis. Core RC Lipos will prob fit as they are slightly smaller in dia, more like the old tamiya nicad packs.
Gav: "Boom. My arse".
That was awesome Gav. Nice bit of content BTW.
Something about that "playing with my Willy" that just sounds...uh...SOOOOO wrong...lol
But, as usual, another great vid. Good job, Gavin.
A little bit of fun lol
Ooh, I love a cliffhanger ending.....🤣🤣
I’ve got to do my bit to keep all your attention spans up. Everyone wants instant gratification these days.
I was a bit anti wheelie as well before I built one of these - now after building one I understand the fun of doing wheelies and what a hoot this vehicle is.
Nice build so far. I think the metallic bearing bushes are bronze, not brass. Bronze is more commonly used as a bearing material. I really want Tamiya to0 do another run of the Honda City Turbo (Willys Wheeler) on this chassis. And Um, you do cut off all those sprue tags don't you Gav? .........don't you?
Good call on greasing the rod ends to ease threading them on
I love the wheelies for the change is skill it takes to keep them on their wheels. Brushless is addicting but damaging when rolling. Turn the wheelie bar upside down to keep it from standing up, but once you pop you can't stop.
Love mine, bought as an Ebay wreck many years ago, have replaced just about everything over the years inc chassis and gearbox. Great fun!
This is an excellent build video with lots of good tips and warnings.
Never really wanted one of these but looking at most of the comments it seems I may be missing out 😂
It is a must have... Really. Pure fun
@@gosseriestepan7631 see, i keep saying 'no more kits'.......... but.. lol
I was lucky when I built mine I fluked it placing the receiver at the back where u later found out it had to go. 😅...... That cut out in the body just fits in front of my wiring and esc
.
I personally find if you’re not running a high power motor and not gonna run it all the time the bushings are fine for a gearbox as long as they’re well greased, that being said I’ve only built a couple with the bushings because I get bearings off of Amazon in bulk
I love these , remember the original in the Littlewoods and Argos catalogues 😄
Ha! Me too, now you mention it.
Love my Willy, it's a fun rc car
Love the thumbnail.
A bit of fun to grab people’s eye
Didn't the original have two battery trays, one high up in the rear for wheelies, and one further forward for "normal" driving?
You guys could organize a tamiya comical truck race with the youtubers, might be hilarious, if the ones organized by tamiya are anything to go by. Lovely build guide :)
I just love that the video narrator appears to be the same guy from the original vintage Tamiya videos, in fact i am wondering if this narration was stolen from the original video.
Edit, i just checked, its exactly the same, they just used the original commentary 😅
One of coolest looking buggies imho, this will deffo put the fun back into rc.
I think you need “BOOM” a little louder 👍😂
LOL
BOOM louder👍
The large bumper is not intended as a choice. Of course you do have the choice to use the large one, but the real reason why there is both a small and a large bumper is because the chassis is used for more than one model and the plastic tree contains the parts for all models. The large bumper is intended for the yellow dump truck. I have both so I know 🙂. The small bumper would look silly on the mighty dump truck and the large bumper would look a bit out of place for the Willy. But yes, you do have the choice 🙂.
I’m not so sure about that. When this car was released in 1999 it was a unique chassis, it came supplied with the large (which Tamiya called the ‘training’ bumper) and the small bumper.
It was well over 10 years before Tamiya started releasing different bodied versions of the WR02.
The dump truck you refer to which uses the GF01 variant of this chassis, wasn’t released until 16 years later.
finishing mine up now, chassis has been built for months. the body... I've spent nearly a full american work week worth of time... just willys face to finish.
I hope to have the body done in the next 3-4 days
A bit more RTFM... You can fit the RX up front under the bonnet.
People ask me ''why did you paint your Willy pink and the Jeep black and curly?
This translates even better on the Tumbling Bull........what a visual with a purple nose 🤣
@@leemollison7508 Wow! I've never seen that one, added to the list.
Wildwilly or a comical?
Nice! You mentioned the pins that put stress on the vintage cars can you recommend the type that you were talking about to replace it with?
It’s just a pin that has a E clip at each end. You just need to order the correct length for your car. I’ve replaced all mine on my Thunder Dragon. Something a bit like this wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/8600/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyLGjBhDKARIsAFRNgW_H2d8YuHjYfLzsA9wUSu8eQWPKoHe1Dgo1sJxnrD3YbLmumuMt_Y0aAtAlEALw_wcB
Hi does anyone know what them pliers were called?
Very good video. Why are you so rushed? I'm curious how you will do the paint job. For me, it was the hardest of all Tamiyas RC´s. After I finished it, I was pretty proud but didn't want to let him bash anymore and made a shelf queen out of it.
Hello, i have a question. I have just started building tamiya rc. I would like to know if you should lubricate the screws as well, or just the moving parts such as the gears. Thanks
Not really needed. If you have turnbuckles in your kit, its worth putting a bit of lubricant on them to make your life a little easier when putting them together. Thread lock is a good thing to have if you are fitting any bolts into metal parts as things rattle loose really easy on RC cars.
@@RCKickschannel i notice there are a lot of lubricant types. Is cera grease enough for the gears?
Gavin, whatever happened to the Blazing Blazer, was it ever finshed qnd painted, i may have missed it 👍
Nope, it's still sitting on my studio desk just out of shot. It's close to being finished but it needs to come back on the show again soon as it's been ages. All the body is painted and the driver is done. It now only needs the decals and the front grill painting.
@@RCKickschannel wow, thank you for the update, really love the show and looking forward to seeing it done, such an iconic car and a huge favourite of mine, the build looked awesome 😎
Is this the same chassis as the commical cars?
No I don’t think so
Hi Gavin, you can buy LIPO batteries that fit Tamiya cars. I used to buy "Venom" batteries that fit Tamiya Cars. However, they are now out of business. I am sure you can find other LIPO battery companies that make batteries that fit Tamiya Cars. Thoughts?
Yep I have a bunch. The issue is the WW2 battery tray is super tight and most Tamiya lipo shape batteries are a fraction bigger. This normally isn't a problem but on the WW2, it is.
@@RCKickschannel You are right the Tamiya shape LIPO batteries are usually slightly larger. I see what you are saying. Keep the videos coming. Thanks
I take it you mean recyclecthe plastic🤔
Boom my a** 😂
Rubbish compared to the original that was way better built and engineered....
