I always considered Liszt the man who broke music and was full of ironies. He was allergic to the past, but admired Chopin wholeheartedly. He was a rock star, yet he wanted to become a priest. He had a thousand women after him but never caught syphilis. He simultaneously had perfect technique but also played like a drunk. And my favorite, most of his works are bombastic, yet he shows he was capable of making timeless gems of music, maybe because he didn’t want to disappoint his fans, or try and steal the torch from Chopin. A man of honor
Wow, it’s so interesting that Liszt is no longer bound by ambition or reputation in his older age and starts pushing the boundaries of sound and mood. It reminds me of some of Monet’s later canvases that seem to be endless sketches of parts of his garden. Your demonstrations are beautiful. It’s an inspiring artistic process.
The young Liszt have also amazing works like "les années de pelerinage - Suisse et Italie (S161) -". I sadly can manage to play only few of his piano pieces but I love them. He is an amazing composer and one of my favorite ones. Dante symphony is an amazing work and listening to it, it is obvious that Wagner was inspired by him.
@@horoffra What is the name of the publisher for the Liszt scores you have ? I find difficult to find recordings of Liszt works that are not spread over many artists and CD. Do you maybe have some "compilations" to recommend like "all the rhapsodies" or "all the less known works" (like the ones you play here ?
I love these Liszt discussions. I can't wait until the period instrument is finished so we can dive even deeper into this astounding man. Good job mate👍

Most people know practically nothing about Liszt.
17:22 It's close to the famous chord of the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky. You just have to add a flat on the F.
Nice, have to check that
Wow that whole collection must have been expensive as hell
A part was sponsored by the edition
how do you sight read so efficiently. could you do a video on this if possible? thanks anyway
