      I will say I like quality and capability of my Toyota Sequoia with the 5.7 and 4x4 and the Land Cruiser looks cool too when compared to other available offerings in the US but it's nothing compared to the Land Cruiser 70 series overseas with the 4.5 v8 turbo diesel, solid front and rear axles, and snorkel. Bring that to America and compare it to anything else you can get in this country. I'd buy one.

    lets be clear in the difference between "off roader" and "overlander" because in the US they are often used interchangeably but they really shouldn't be. Overlanding is vehicle based adventure travel, that means sometimes going on rough trails and needing capability but more importantly its about durability, reliability and the ability to carry a load safely. Its not a matter of just being able to go off road with a cargo box on the roof. Any 4x4 can be made to go off road, but a good overlander is so much more.

    • @mikec3454
      @mikec3454 5 років тому +4

      @@retrokingranch I'm assuming you're an H2 owner or someone who wishes they had one? There's a reason why you don't see H2s as a common overlanding vehicle: they are too big for the tighter trails, reliability isn't their strong suit, and their MPG is horrible. When you're traveling great distances, "adventure travel", MPG kind of matters because you don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. You'd need to carry a 55gal oil drum to be confident taking off into the backwoods with an H2.
      This is why more midsize trucks and SUVs are common overlanders - they are more nimble on the trails due to lighter weight, can travel greater distances because of greater MPG, and there's way more third party accessories in those segments.

    • @gelarden1
      @gelarden1 5 років тому +8

      @@mikec3454 I'm an H2 owner and use it as an overlanding vehicle. I also use a 2006 Tundra as an overlanding platform. The Tundra is a great deal smaller and gets moderately better gas mileage. It can't carry as much as my H2, isn't better off road by any stretch of imagination, isn't *more* reliable - though my Tundra is solid, and generally isn't my choice to go take a trip in. The H2 get's the nod for long trips mainly because it has capacity and it's proven to be durable/reliable. I have done the same basic mods that TFL did to their H2, with the addition of leveling, different UCP and 37" KM3's.
      I think the main reason you don't see Hummers often is simply because there are far fewer of them than other makes.
      I've owned a first gen Trooper (miss that thing), a pair of Land Rovers , and a Jeep. The Trooper was awesome, the Rovers were great when they ran (which seemed to be not often) and the Jeep was great off road but horrible on road. The Tundra and the Hummer are both better overall.
      FWIW I love the Land Cruiser, it's just not in my price 'reality'.
      There is absolutely better vehicles than the Hummer - it's older tech (mine is like 120 in dog years), it's heavy, wide, not a diesel....er I mean get's poor mileage, etc. But it certainly is capable.

    I have own an h2 hummer for 7 plus years in and African country where gas is expensive but to be honest with you guys, h2 hummer is a great truck. It was reliable, good off-road car and most of all very imposing. On the down side was the visibility issues which after many years of ownership I was already used to and the gas. But overall for me 7 years with this truck, I can firmly say that this truck is underrated.

    I was a product specialist for Hummer for years. We had a 14 acre off road facility we tested them at in Indiana. All of us were amazed at what the H2 could handle even more so the h3. Most of us were Jeep and Toyota owners until we drove 'em. In 2003 a base h2 went for roughly $53,000 if I remember correctly. Let's not forget all the Baja's it won either. Ir was the real deal and didn't deserve the raw deal it got from everybody. My only beef was if did have weak factory tie rods for a vehicle of 8,600 lb's. That said, the only tie rod I ever bused was in moab doing some pretty crazy stuff I don't think any other stock vehicle could do otherwise.

Even said that factory Land Cruiser behind the wheel of an owner familiar with the LC would still run circles around the H2. The LC is better in ALL categories also it holds its value and will be on the road decades later when the H2's are all in junkyards. @EdwinHenryBlachford 6 років тому +1

      the 70 series 6 cylinder diesel tray top is considered as the ultimate boundary riders vehicle in Australia for Roo, Dingo and Fox Shooters. I ain't shitting you for I've done it. Slower than the petrol until you get to rough terrain, the diesel in any variant is unstoppable. Also half the fuel. Personally I'd opt for the naturally aspirated (since I have one in my Landcruiser) because at 130hp this works out perfectly on sand. Always seek a vehicle with the front diff locker but if a competent offroad driver the standard rear wheel LSD is awesome enough. But yeh rear LSD + front locked diff is amazing.. Get an AWB locker on the front if you don't have the Toyota unit. Then you will be unstoppable. The "Dog Fence" runs from Ceduna to the SA border and a 70 series tray top is considered the ultimate rig - you can make good money shooting roos and foxes with one of these. But only one of these Toyotas ( or maybe a very good Nissan GQ diesel ) for anything else breaks. That is the strength of 60, 70 and 80's series Landcruisers - they never break. If fitting big tyres for some obscure reason up grade the front Burfield joints and axles.. but why you'd want that useless extra expense is beyond my reason. But hey I simply live and work in Central Australia so who gives a damn eh

    The only catch here is that the Land Cruiser actually made it there and back reliably STOCK, irregardless of the price, it's a vehicle that will last for decades stock. The jeep with all the work and addon parts ran well over 50% the cost of the Toyota Landcruiser, without needing any modification, aftermarket parts, adjustments or enhancement, which the Jeep had ALL of, and the Hummer had Half of. If you're going to buy a Jeep wrangler new, and modify it, buy a Landcruiser used and the same. You'll get better longevity and reliability. I Can justify the Hummer if it was gotten for a cheap price and you added in the work. But they're not making it anymore

      The Hummer had absolutey no modifications at all. The 35" tires the H2 had are from factory. The only thing that was changed was the tire tie rods, which then isn't even a mod, it's more of a necessity than a mod. The H2 also isn't lifted.

    For trails like this all that matters is approach, departure, and clearance. Breakover isn't really a factor.
    That's the difference between rock crawling and rock hopping. Furthermore, rock crawling doesn't mind solid axles, while rock hopping will have problems with a solid axle and diff getting stuck on jagged rocks and such.
    Likewise, thats the primary difference between weekend rock crawler vehicles and overland vehicles.

    Although a fun video to watch, I see the concept of overlanding being misused.. rock crawling and overlanding are 2 very different things. The land cruiser is an awesome platform for an overland build, but the H2 (and this is a very personal opinion) is not a good vehicle at all: it huge, too long of a wheelbase, NOT reliable, requires lots of upgrades.. I suggest making a comparison video between a land cruiser and a Nissan Patrol - vehicles designed with similar features.
    Cheers!

      Yeah, "overland" gets thrown around a little too caviler in the US these days. No it doesn't mean going off road for a few hours.

    • @ericparks7104
      @ericparks7104 6 років тому +2

      sorry for your prejudice of the Hummer. Just a little education about this vehicle. The reason so many people liked the Hummer was it didn't need any upgrades. Except for the Tie Rods, I will agree with that... what was the reason behind that I will never know. The Hummer was ready for off road right from the show room. The front end was built like a chevy 2500 for the weight of the motor and the rear end 1500 for towing. It comes with 33's, and you can put 35's or 37's without upgrading anything. the only thing besides the tie rods I have upgraded was the exhaust system. I installed 4 inch pipes with a Evenflo muffler, and a better air filter. it puts me up to 362 HP, I can do a little more to get to 400 but then it will start messing with my gas mileage. Right now I get 12 to 13 in town and 19 highway, maintaining the speed at 1500 RPMs I'm at 22 to 23. That's no BS, give me your email and I'll send you a picture to prove it. The reason why I get this type of mileage is because I don't drive it like I stole it. I have owned this one for the past 5 years and has been a solid vehicle. All I have done to it was normal oil changes and schedule maintenance, plugs and cables, air filter, belts, trans and radiator flush.

    • @PatrickRich
      @PatrickRich 6 років тому

      @eric Parks - Don't you have that backwards? I think the rear was the 14 bolt corporate axle (from the 3/4 ton) and the front was the half ton axle. As an aside I think the H2 could have really been something special had it been allowed to survive past rubbish GM and their dark 2000's. the mechanical engineering was quiet good and some legit effort went into making it capable. I even wrote a thing about it years ago. oppositelock.kinja.com/why-the-h2-should-have-been-a-classic-1447347444

    • @robertoolivar6325
      @robertoolivar6325 6 років тому +1

      Hello Eric, First of all I want to thank you for the enlightment in the H2. Now, as I wrote in the comment above, this is a personal opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone. I work in the auto industry and have been around cars for over 30 years. My experience with H2s have been very bad and this is my grounds to make such statement - reliability. To my knowledge - and I might be wrong - is that the H2 is a GMC Denali with a different shell and bigger tires, again I might be wrong.
      I wanted to express my surprise when i see "Experts" using terminology that they don't have clear. Overlanding and rock crawling are very different activities and the vehicles are designed with that in mind.
      Size, weight and shape and factors that are taken in consideration when designing a vehicle for a purpose and if we're talk about overlanding there are other options that might be more suitable. Like i stated before, overlanding and rock crawling or even back-road offroading, are not the same thing.
      Cheers!

    FRS and MURS frequencies are non licensed, however each have their own power restrictions.
    GMRS frequecies require a license.
    Amateur Radio frequencies require a license and are NOT for business use.
    Any other frequency you just "punch in" could be a Government, Law Enforcement, Military, Commercial, Public Service, or any other agency frequency and is not only illegal to transmit on without a license, it could cause serious interference to licensed users. If your licensed my apologies, but often people buy these cheap radios thinking they can use them as walkie talkies.
