Technically, the alleged homeowner allegedly opened fire on the alleged burglar who allegedly died and allegedly went to Hell.

At the press conference after the incident PIO LAPD Captain called the suspects “potential burglars”. The suspects broke in through a sliding glass door and there was a scuffle, that makes them burglars nothing potential about it. Captain Muniz definitely knew the suspect’s name and criminal history that included burglary and robbery, and she thinks he is a potential burglar. She was the highest ranking officer on scene.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, so they say “allegedly” because nothing has been proven yet under the court of law.

Under Penal Code 198.5 PC, California law follows the Castle Doctrine. This is the legal principle that you have no duty to retreat if you confront an intruder at your own home. You are permitted to use force against intruders who break into your home or try to force their way in
Don't kid yourself. If that guy makes one wrong move in his statement to the cops, the LA County DA will come after him. I hope he kept his mouth shut until he contacted an attorney knowledgeable about these things.

Thats why apart from having a firearm, you need a lawyer specialized in defensive firearm use, on speed dial or on retainer to protect you.

If you listened to LAPD PIO Captain Kelly Muniz on scene after this occurred, she described the suspects who entered the man’s house as “potential burglars”. If LAPD’s Captain Muniz cannot differentiate between actual burglars and potential burglars I have concern for the department’s training and ability of lower rank officers to recognize the elements of a crime.
Leave it to George GasCON to try and charge the homeowner over some life long criminal loser. It is absolutely ridiculous we are talking about the homeowner being charged.
In the Hollywood Hills case earlier this year the LA Sheriff’s department revoked the man’s CCW permit when attacked as he approached his front door by two criminals. Tired of BLAME the victim.
There's also a case here in Oakland of a guy shooting burglars at his home a couple weeks ago, and of course he's in jail.
Current wait for a CCW is around 700 days. If you apply now you might get it in two years.
