The Nine Stitchpunks of Shane Acker's '9' (2009) Explained: 1 = The Cowardly Leader 2 = The Inventor 3 & 4 = The Twin Knowledge-Seekers 5 = The Loyalist 6 = The Mysterious Prophet 7 = The Rebel 8 = The Worrier 9 = The Saviour

@@sorinrobinson9237 The Russian dub changed the original creator's (Shane Acker's) vision. I think it's a cool and potentially better story but I'd prefer to stick to Shane Acker's original story as it was his directorial debut and it's an adaption of his university short film.
Why did you say the scientist's plan was malicious? Just because the stitchpunks are portrayed as the protagonists doesn't make the scientist evil for not meaning for them to survive. He wants to save the world. He's the good guy.
Maybe it’s not cannon: in Russian dub it is said that chancellor wasn’t satisfied with scientists work so he confiscated blueprints and the machine itself and forced other engineer to finish it. And memories of that engie were reborn as 6th. This explains his knowledge of technology and traumatized behavior.
Is it me or am I over thinking this 6 looks like he's made of jail clothes maybe he acts mad (insane) because he was made while the scientist and he went insane while was in jail (just a theory while I was watching the movie while my imagination was imagining)
6 is meant to be a madman. The twins are the geniuses, whereas 6 is just crazy, but he just somehow has visions and that is why he mentions important things. He does it by accident.
Since the film was produced by one of the Russians Timur Bekmambetov, more information was added to the Russian version than to the English version. The First is the chancellor The Second is the mentor of the scientist The Third and Fourth are the daughter's of the scientist, The Fifth a close friend of the scientist and his teacher The Sixth is the engineer who helped the scientist but as a result went crazy and his soul was taken by B.R.A.I.N The Seventh is is his wife The Eighth bodyguard of the chancellor The Ninth is the scientist himself These are not their souls; these are the remaining memories of them
Wait, how does all of that get explained in the Russian version? I can't think of a scene where this information could have been revealed, was it perhaps in the bonus material of the DVD?
@@minervszombies the very last scene and it’s all subtly hinted at throughout the whole movie. I could summarize the differences if you’d like. I recently rewatched it
I never understood why the Scientist needed to use the stichpunks to transfer his soul into the machine (if indeed that was what he intended). Why not just activate and use the talisman himself? Also interestingly the machine was made have to have the talisman in it which was then used to awaken the stichpunks. But again, why??
Cuz he realized that he couldn't do it without getting killed 9 was more like the carrier and 6 was the unexpected one cuz he was the closest one that had similar mind set as the scientist
When his soul returns, 6 immediately knows what to do and takes 8 to where he's supposed to stand and in a deleted scene it was gonna turn out that the key 6 is wearing was for the box that plays the scientists message to 9.
I have multiple personality disorder, and I mainly tie in with 5. Jason, another alter ego, ties in with 8 due to being aggressive towards everyone and everything around him. Aiden, the main personality ties in with either 6 or 9, but mostly ties in with 6, due to being called crazy, being solitary, loving to draw, and knows much more than he is letting on. Alice, another secondary mind, ties in with 7, due to being female, independent, and tough. Reginald, who prefers to be called Reggie, ties in with 9 because he is one of the youngest in the group, and also is inquisitive, like 9. Jack, another secondary mind, connects with 3 and 4, because he is quiet, curious, and might be smarter than he seems. Henry, another secondary mind, ties in with 2, due to being an older personality, is kind to most of the others, except for Jason, and is optimistic in even apocalyptic situations. Cotton, another secondary mind, ties in with 1, due to being older, being a coward, and the most angry of them all.
THANK YOU! I've been wondering that for years now and how he knows what the source looks like without him seeing it! Especially the part where 9 asked him if he knows anything about it and he looks very excited and eager about telling him until 1 cuts him off. Speaking of which, it's kinda unnerving that 1 knows what the source looks like, had 2 go out on his own by himself and planned on having him being killed off and knowing that the cat creature can and will attack them. He literally used the poor man as bait and a sacrifice! But despite him knowing what the source looked like and that it could be a dangerous object, he didn't know it's full and true power until he saw it with his own eyes and heard about it. He seemed more worried about his safety than 2's and everyone else's safety. If anybody has a theory on their own about this or want to clear something up with what I said about this, you're more than welcome too and it'd be greatly appreciated!
Ok, so I think of six as a prototype nine, having the most soul, along with very complex hands kinda like how nine had the most work put into him. But the scientist noticed that six had some sort of knowledge that would stop his plan, so he continued making the stitchpunks until he got to nine. That's also why he killed/absorbed six, to stop him from destroying the machine
SuperStar Bros This has been explained in a deleted scene. In spirit 6 was supposed to give his key to 9 to open up a box as presented in the link. ua-cam.com/video/1207pJUzM2E/v-deo.html I hope this will provide some answers ^w^
I'm pretty much late, but just wanted to say that based of that 1-9 artworks with each having titles like leader, defender, protected, guide, savior, defining self, and teaching. They are the 9 characteristics of a soul. To Protect, and inspire/ambition, defining us(the soul searching for truth) and teach us(hardly needs explaining), to guide us, as is human nature to guide those who seek a path, to lead(a vary rare but valued trate that all can acquire, to defend(the urge to jump in the defence of those in need), to guard(the one who takes up the responsibility to protect those under their own care), and 9 to save us, though 8 and 7 can fit under saving, saving takes a more broad idea into mind. Though 7 and 8 defend and protect refer to fighting and taking the focus of the danger at hand, saving doesn't necessarily require a foe to battle. One can save a lost soul, or feed a starving one, or perhaps give hope to a devastate group. He is the one to "save" them. Pretty obvious I know but just wanted to point it out as I felt it was overlooked in the video
A theory I have about 9, is for 3 & 4. Remember in the flashback when the Scientist awoke the Machine using the same device he used on the 9 stitchpunks? WELL, that means he used a peice of his soul. And so he actually only gave 8 to the stitchpunks. This explains how 3 & 4 are identical twins, because they share a soul. I'm guessing if one died, the other would too. The reason why they're mute, and speak in Morse code, is possibly because u need a full soul in order to speak, but since they share one they can't. The Scientist made them twins because he wanted to make 9 stitchpunks, not 8. Also, do u think Undertale got inspiration from 9? There are 9 souls in 9. And 9 souls in Undertale (Patience, Kindness, Perseverance, etc.) And maybe they got MegaFlowey from the Machine too. Because the machine is trying to absorb all 9 stitchpunk souls. And Flowey (spoiler) absorbs all the 9 souls and turns into his mega form. And also they look a little similar too. I also think 6 can see the future/see visions. (Did u notice he has pen tips for hands/fingers? That's how he draws without a pen/pencil.) That's all the theories I've gathered from watching the movie multiple times.
6 certainly knew much about the machine and talisman but seemed fragmented. By which I mean, he was knowledgable but didn't have the full picture which would be why he was always drawing in solitary. 6 would get memories of the scientist as visions though may not have been fully clear.
Super interesting im gonna try watch most your videos . You sound very young , impressed by your voice and skills , id say you have a good future in this stuff .

Yet, this theory of the scientist being evil would only be if he was the antagonist, he is good because why else would he leave the message for nine? Plus he could have just straight out told six using a note that nine is the leader and you should trust him and thoughts about the talisman being the key to stopping the machine would also kill them, but there was a 99.99% chance of all the souls going into the machine, if he was the antagonist.
Yeah I dunno. I feel like that if he really wanted this, he would've just transferred himself into the Machine from the get-go rather than making the Stitchpunks.
Interesting but your evidence with the Facebook post is not exactly right because the scientist talked about 6 taking more out of him before creating 9 so technically speaking 9 could still have the most soul. But other than that great theory
Before watching im just gonna say im 99% sure its because they're all different aspects of his soul like it says in the movie. he's just the part that has knowledge of the arcane without the scientific inventive aspect 2 has to fully understand it. That would explain why he's so odd because hes constantly tying to understand and illustrate something that he has no capacity to articulate.
At first I thought six was a holocaust survivor but then when you look at the back ground scenes they include first world war weapons it seems 6 might of been a prisoner of war during the Great War unless it was the scientist who was a POW and that might be why 6 is made out of striped clothing
