The Arabic singer is Cheb Mami, Algerian. He was at the top of his game until he was involved in a sickening scandal that resulted in a prison sentence in France. I saw Sting and Cheb Mami perform this song in Dubai. Sting was lead singer of the British group 'The Police'.
Sting is the lead singer of The Police. Love “Desert Rose”🌹 ❤️ . The Middle Eastern voices and music is so beautiful and sexy. Second best Sting song after “Fields of Gold” which is so beautiful, but makes me always cry...💛🌻💛
Mouez Ziani - Yes, you are correct. He is Algerian, speaking primarily (Algerian) Arabic, with French as his second language, which is why I associated the music with a Middle Eastern vibe.
Maybe a silly comment yet I have to say it. Can honestly say, of every reactor I have seen you are by far my favorite. You are looking back and seeing how much the past influences the future. Just a huge thanks for your work.....
James, you are absolutely my favorite reactor!! You say we keep you going but you keep us going too! You’re reactions are so real and your taste in music is so diverse.
I've never seen this video before but what I really liked about it is how Sting and Cheb Mami kind of used their voices like instruments vs. using it to tell us some story. When that is in songs, it always gives me an etheral vibe. Thanks for your reaction, James..... Take care and be well. Peace.
We miss you :) but we are always here and not going anywhere, we love you and your channel. This is such a beautiful song with Sting and Arabic, north African flavour with "Cheb Mami an Algerian musician who sings and speaks Algerian Arabic" Sting was mesmerized by his voice and Cheb didn't understand what Sting was singing but the lyric he improvised just meshed together so magically. Whatever language you speak, somehow music always combines it into one beautiful masterpiece. Awesome pick.
OMG I'm so excited that you reacted to this. This song played over and over throughout my childhood. And I'm so glad you're branching out to music from other cultures. :) Some other great Sting songs to check out- Fields of Gold, Fragile, Englishman in New York, Shape of My Heart, She's Too Good For Me - All songs I think you'd enjoy!
This song reminds me of my best friend that passed away 2 years ago. When this song first came out, we would play it over and over and sing along. Thanks for this reaction. Sting is brilliant.
One of favorite songs by this amazing artist. I’m glad to see you back, too. What I love about Sting is the complexity of both his music and his lyrics.
He played this song on 9/11. He first wanted to cancel the concert, but then decided to do it anyway, because people needed music more than ever. That concert became something very special.
When the album Brand New Day by Sting came out in 1999, it was overlooked on the radio. In 2000, Sting licensed the song to Jaguar to use the song Desert Rose in their advertising. Those car commercials propelled the album and Desert Rose to the top of the charts!
I have to share a personal memory of this song. In 2001, I was 24 and had the opportunity to travel with a friend to Cairo. I lived in Egypt for a month like a local, in an apartment, with the Egyptian people. They took me in like it didn't matter that I was a 5' 10" blue-eyed blonde who stuck out like a sore thumb. They were the kindest and most open people I've ever known. I was invited to a club one weekend. The club was a boat moored on the Nile River. We were dancing on the deck, and this song came on. This song had been out for about a year if I recall, and was still a huge hit. Everyone was singing and dancing, myself included. Partway through the song, I realized I was the only one singing the English lyrics, and the other hundred or so people were singing the Arabic part. Yet we were all just a group of people loving music and having a blast, dancing on the Nile. I realized that day how very large the world really is, and how small of a part of it I was. September 11, 2001 happened 3 weeks after I returned to the US. That trip changed my entire life. I think of it every single time I hear this song.
Yes!!! Sting is 🔥 He loves to mix different cultural music. This is Latin & Arabic. Way cool!!! I saw them do this song Live and it was BEAUTIFUL!! It was The Police you were thinking of as his group. His voice is one of those you know instantly its Sting.
Daaaamn you got hypnotized!!! Just like me when I first heard it when I was a kid! I've listened to it ever since! This is a MASTERPIECE! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Haven’t heard this song in years! I’ve just been binging on your reaction videos for the last hour! Love the genre variations you do, a true lover of music.
I'm so glad that you are back. You were very much missed. Sting was in The Police. He's done some great, unique songs. This song seems to have an Indian flare to it. Great choice, JB! Hugs❣❤
Not an Indian flare - you probably meant flavour? An Arabic/Middle Eastern flavour since Cheb Mami is Algerian (North Africa) and sings in Arabic in this song. But yes, The Police was and remains awesome.
Sting's former group is called The Police. But he's also done a great many collaborations with other artists during his own long career as a solo artist. He's also an actor in various different films and TV programmes. His collaborations include people like Phil Collins, Craig David and many others.
My favorite solo Sting song! And that phrase! "tied to a horse that will never tire" I just googled it AGAIN, to make sure. I think he made it up. I know he said "dreams" but just the imagery of anything tied to a horse is powerful. Thank you so much for your reactions and welcome back from your break! 🎧 💓 🎶
I used to be a (classical) musician. I left the industry angry / hurt / hating music. JBLETHAL TV, you are one of the reasons I've come back to listening to music. I watch you listen to the great artists I used to love, you're so honest and vulnerable to the music's power, and- its healing to me. I can't tell you how much you mean to me (and I'm old enough to be your mom, fyi!) but I can say thank you. Your joy is becoming my own again. Thank you💗💗💗
Kelly, I posted a similar question couple days ago and he responded and said he’s going through some personal issues 🥺 but would be back soon. He popped up yesterday but then the video was removed soon after. I really hope he is okay too. He deserves to be happy. I miss his videos and seeing that smile. Sending peace and love to him too.
I love how you said at beginning music is my life, I was not blessed with musical talent, but, I can honestly say that I could have not gotten through my life to this point without all the music I have been blessed to listen and hear and hope to always continue to keep me going. If you like the Arabic vibe, try "Agape" by Dead Can Dance and "You" by Ofra Haza. P.S. Sting does a lovely song called "It's Probably Me" that I think you will love.
I love this song! Sting does have a very distinctive voice. I saw him in concert several times with The Police. Makes me feel I’m tripping. (Don’t tell my mother.)
Yo, I really have been enjoying this journey youve been on, my uncle always introduced me to music that at the time I didn't quite get, but now that hes passed, time has passed, its some of the best, thanks!
Nice song choice! Sting’s and Cheb Mami’s voices definitely compliment each other! Thanks for always bringing that SMILE!! (Now, I’m gonna put in my usual request for Joan Baez! 🤗 No hurry, no pressure, seriously. I just keep bringing her up just so she doesn’t get lost in the mix.)
Sting likes to dabble in different music genres, it really keeps him from being pigeon holed, and we have heard some gems from it to. Another great review, so much music out there, what a ride.
This is from Sting's "Brand New Day" album, which was a wonderful LP by him. This might be my favorite track from the album. Two others that you should react to are "A Thousand Years," and the title track "Brand New Day." "Brand New Day" features a harmonica break by Stevie Wonder!
I am a new subscriber and I have been binge watching your videos because you are so wonderful to watch. Your sincerity and love of music is so fun to be part of .I speak for many when I say I appreciate the videos you post. Especially considering everything so crazy going on in the world, I think you deserve applause for the public service! Because of you I am listening to my own music more ( and less news) so THANK YOU!! I had just recently recommended a couple of songs to.you ( thank you for responding). I could not resist adding a few more. I do not know if you know Prince’s work but these three songs are very underrated. ( and sooo gggggoooood) One is a duet ( he is on guitar ) with Stevie Wonder 1) What The Fuss - very funky song about world /making peace 2) a fun spirited , danceable love song by Prince 2) Forever In My Life and 3) sexy love song by Prince -I love U iin Me. Again, I hope you listen for yourself at least! I will hang low on the refs and just ENJOY YOU for a while. If you have any RAP you want to recommend- I would love it as I am under educated on that genre. Thank you again for your hard work. LOVE YOU!
Remember Gods promise. " I will never leave or forsake you" I don't like seeing that sad loneliness on your face. You are a sweet guy! The the music everywhere....
Bought this when it first came out, love dudes voice so mystical and such a great collaboration. Just makes you feel good for some reason. 😁 Your talking about The Bangles Walk like an egyptian. Sting-The Police.
Cheb is the other guy in the video who is from Algeria. I think he's singing in Arabic, he's very well respected and thought of in his own part of the world. Another few tracks by Sting you might want to do reaction video on are: Russians, Let Your Soul be your pilot and If I ever lose my faith in you.
Yes, Sting aka Gordon Sumner is the lead singer of The Police. He was originally a school teacher in his native North East of England. Newcastle upon Tyne. He taught English. He's also had some acting roles in a few lesser known films. He's also worked closely with guys like Phil Collins. Another thing about Sting is I believe that he can really handle himself. In otherwords don't get on the wrong side of him because he can throw a real good punch.
Read the lyrics! Hard to make out sometimes which is a shame because they are so poetic and gorgeous. Sting to me, is first and foremost a poet. I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand I wake in vain I dream of love as time runs through my hand I dream of fire Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire And in the flames Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire This desert rose Each of her veils, a secret promise This desert flower No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this And as she turns This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams This fire burns I realize that nothing's as it seems I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand I wake in vain I dream of love as time runs through my hand I dream of rain I lift my gaze to empty skies above I close my eyes The rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love Aman aman aman aman aman I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand I wake in vain I dream of love as time runs through my hand Sweet desert rose Each of her veils, a secret promise This desert flower This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
Sting's solo work is real sophisticated and more mature than The Police. One of his best was "The Shape of My Heart". But this song was exotic- thanks bro!!
One of the best songs of all times...."Maggot Brain" by the Funkadelics. I don't see it in your videos. Ask your granddad. I am sure he will agree with me 100%. When I was young they played it every Saturday at midnight. We would force ourselves to stay up to listen to this song. It was mind blowing every single time we heard it and it still is today.
First would like to thank you for the honest and sincere approach you bring to all your reactions.... such a path of heart will lead to healing and wonders.... Not commenting on Sting.... But did want to share a few MORE rabbit holes I haven't seen you come across yet....(but maybe I missed them?) BY ALL MEANS check out YES.... "Roundabout" for a good dose of what the band will bring, "Turn of the Century" for a nice sample of the wonderlands of vocals, guitars and imagery they also so readily offer......... (One tip from an old schooler ..... As a Rule I would recommend always listening to a studio cut first.... There are good videos... but "good" live recordings from the 60s and 70s are rare .... and the post-MTV 80s videos frequently distract or at least fail to enhance the recordings.) OTHER FOLKS I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE •Joan Armatrading (Love and Affection....that will light your fire...one of Tracy Chapman's main inspirations no doubt ) •Tommy Bolin (Dreamer, People People, Savannah Woman) •Bjork (Human Behavior is a good start) - (STUDIO RECORDINGS FIRST) ....she is wonderful but visually can be very confusing until you understand her tact. -For more Kate Bush....Cloudbursting..(google Orgone Energy and Wilhelm Reich for some of the back story).. and all the other cuts on the Hounds of Love album of course....The Dreaming .... and ...despite problems....Her live performance at the Hammersmith Theatre from back in the day - For another side of Elton John....check out his early albums with Bernie Taupin ..... Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across The Water....etc. I could of course go on and on.......listen to your grandad/family for the funk and soul gems....They know what's what!!! hehe Keep up the great work.....your efforts are much appreciated
Glad to have you back , was wondering what happened to you. Looking forward to more reactions from you. You are a joy to watch!. Could you please react to the Gap Band "Party Train "and "You dropped a bomb on me" .
Please react to George Michael! Amazing voice with passionate lyrics! Suggest Praying for Time, Kissing a Fool, Cowboys and Angels, Waiting for the Day, a Different Corner, Mother’s Pride, Father Figure. I promise you will want to listen to all of his music! Especially his album Listen Without Prejudice
Cheb Mami's version is also very good. Hard to get Arabic music making a breakthrough into the West, but this song helped, along with the music of Khaled and Rachid Haha. Much respect from Australia.
I remember when i first watched this video I was like "wow, video camera's are getting really small", now I'm like, "wow, video cameras used to be a thing."
I love this beautiful song with the Algerian Rai music. I have a reaction suggestion for you. Counting Crows, Mr Jones, Round Here, Omaha... another artist James Taylor- Carolina on my mind, fire and rain, you’ve got a friend. He’s an American treasure.
I'm watching your videos for a long time and i think you definitely should to listen these popular european songs: ABBA - One Man, One Woman ABBA - Marionette (live version) Boney M - Ma Baker Boney M - Daddy Cool C.C.Catch - Heartbreak Hotel C.C.Catch - Cause You're Young Falco - Jeanny Fancy - Flames Of Love Joy - Touch By Touch Jurij Shatunov - Belye Rozy Kim Wilde - Kids In America Morandi - Colors Omega - Gyonghaju Lany Ryan Paris - Dolce Vita Sandra - Maria Magdalena Sandra - In the Heat of the Night Sandra - We'll Be Together Tatu - Nas Ne Dogonyat Cheers from Poland!
I know you love your easy-listening 70s music ... this one's on the short list of best one-hit wonder songs of the 70s. Sanford & Townsend: "Smoke from a Distant Fire."
He is not from the middle east . Hi is from north Africa
Mouez Ziani - Yes, you are correct. He is Algerian, speaking primarily (Algerian) Arabic, with French as his second language, which is why I associated the music with a Middle Eastern vibe.
I love this song. The guy singing Arabic is Cheb Mami an Algerian singer/ songwriter. Love what they created with this collaboration.
Maybe a silly comment yet I have to say it. Can honestly say, of every reactor I have seen you are by far my favorite. You are looking back and seeing how much the past influences the future. Just a huge thanks for your work.....
My favorite reactor also!
Thank you !!! Man comments like this motivates me more
Just a quick response. Your Grandfather was a genius, I am 50 and to see our younger generation actually listen and learn from the past gives me hope
If you're listening to Sting, 2 songs I think among his best
Fragile
Why Should I Cry For You
...Love the channel!
James, you are absolutely my favorite reactor!! You say we keep you going but you keep us going too! You’re reactions are so real and your taste in music is so diverse.

Such an underrated song. I fell in love with this song the first time I ever heard it. Love the mixture of different cultures, just magical.

Fields of Gold by Sting, please react to it. You can thank me after you hear it.😊 It’s absolutely beautiful.
Yyeeesss!!!
Yes!!
Yes I agree. And also the version by Eva Cassidy.
You chose a perfect song to relax. This is one the most beautiful duets I've ever heard. Such beautiful of voice combination.
I was so happy to see you back....you were missed. And you are correct this is a beautiful song by Sting and Cheb Mami.
Sting is a great songwriter and singer. Excellent musician. ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
I love this song. Sting has had a huge influence on my life. My favorite song of his is "Fragile".
YES!!! Fields of Gold, my favorite song!!! Going to be played at my memorial, when the time comes, bc I love it so much!!!
He played this song on 9/11. He first wanted to cancel the concert, but then decided to do it anyway, because people needed music more than ever. That concert became something very special.
I LOVE this song, beautiful, evocative, perfection!!
A perfect drug-free high
One of the coolest sounding songs. Heard it hundreds of times and still not tired of it.
When the album Brand New Day by Sting came out in 1999, it was overlooked on the radio. In 2000, Sting licensed the song to Jaguar to use the song Desert Rose in their advertising. Those car commercials propelled the album and Desert Rose to the top of the charts!

Haven’t heard this song in years!
I’ve just been binging on your reaction videos for the last hour! Love the genre variations you do, a true lover of music.
Cheb Mami is great algerian Raï singer
Sting is one of absolute favorites of all time... and I love it when a musician mixes different cultures music together. This song is a masterpiece.
One of my favorite songs by Sting. ♥♥♥
You gorgeous
@@maruskaehrensdorfer thank you so much for the clarification! 😊
JBLeathal TV, you’ve got to do “Englishman in New York” from Sting!!
One of my favorite songs. I listen to it frequently.
Great reaction! Sting is an artist that I can rely on to just sit back relax and enjoy.
love this song, my absolute fav from sting is 'fragile'. Just him and a guitar, yet so powerful.
Sting's former group is called The Police. But he's also done a great many collaborations with other artists during his own long career as a solo artist. He's also an actor in various different films and TV programmes.
His collaborations include people like Phil Collins, Craig David and many others.
Sting is sooo talented...he made the Police !!!!!
When Christmas comes, be sure to listen to Sting singing "Gabriel's Message". Hauntingly beautiful.
"A thing of beauty, is a joy forever".
Brilliant song and video.
Lovely car as well, Sting keeping with the British connection by using a Jaguar.
We missed ya too.
Great song to return to.

There is so much great Sting and Police music. Please react to Sting’s FRAGILE. I love the way you love music.
Fields of Gold is a gorgeous song by Sting too.
I love how much you love the music you react to my brother. Keep it up mate.
you should do kiss from a rose by seal. similar vibe with heavy vocal emphasis
so much yes. I LOVE Seal!
Love your reactions so much!!!

This is a CLASSIC man. Thanks
Sting was in The Police before he went solo. I always wondered if he was interpreting this lovely song into english
Remember Gods promise. " I will never leave or forsake you" I don't like seeing that sad loneliness on your face. You are a sweet guy! The the music everywhere....

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
The rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love
Aman aman aman aman aman
I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall

You were close, it's California's Mojave Desert but they did film parts in Nevada, mostly Las Vegas.
Nice collaboration I quite like this one.
This music video was in-part used as a tv advert for Jaguar motors.
Been on that highway from LA to Vegas many times.
Shape of My Heart is the one.
First would like to thank you for the honest and sincere approach you bring to all your reactions.... such a path of heart will lead to healing and wonders....
Not commenting on Sting.... But did want to share a few MORE rabbit holes I haven't seen you come across yet....(but maybe I missed them?)
BY ALL MEANS check out YES.... "Roundabout" for a good dose of what the band will bring, "Turn of the Century" for a nice sample of the wonderlands of vocals, guitars and imagery they also so readily offer.........

OTHER FOLKS I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE
•Joan Armatrading (Love and Affection....that will light your fire...one of Tracy Chapman's main inspirations no doubt )
•Tommy Bolin (Dreamer, People People, Savannah Woman)
•Bjork (Human Behavior is a good start) - (STUDIO RECORDINGS FIRST) ....she is wonderful but visually can be very confusing until you understand her tact.
-For more Kate Bush....Cloudbursting..(google Orgone Energy and Wilhelm Reich for some of the back story).. and all the other cuts on the Hounds of Love album of course....The Dreaming .... and ...despite problems....Her live performance at the Hammersmith Theatre from back in the day

I know you love your easy-listening 70s music ... this one's on the short list of best one-hit wonder songs of the 70s. Sanford & Townsend: "Smoke from a Distant Fire."
Sting also acted, most notable was Dune in the 80s.
