We FABRICATED The World's STRONGEST Removable Winch Setup

  • Опубліковано 1 лис 2020
  • I've probably pushed 50 cars onto this trailer and every single time I've said I was going to get a winch. That day has finally come and I have an outrageous 17,000Lb winch from Anvil Offroad to install on the trailer. I want it to be quickly removable so it doesn't live outside, but that's easier said than done. It took an entire day to get this massive setup built and it's still not bolted onto the trailer.

Please be more careful with your winching. You need to spool new cable onto the drum under load in order to prevent the upper layers from embedding themselves into the lower when under full load. Also, I was cringing the whole time you had your hand right next to the winch fairlead while spooling it in. That drum doesn’t just instantly stop, but, no matter what, all it would have took to mangle your hand is a small grab/slip and pull it into the fairlead. PLEASE be safer than that.

Like a couple other guys recommend, trailer box on the tongue with a couple batteries. Then your trailer plug should have switched 12v power to one of the pins. Wire that to charge the trailer batteries. If you are really trick get a solar trickle charger so it's always ready to rock.

Snatch block not a block and tackle.
Make sure you use a winch dampener when ever using a winch, place as close to the hook or d shackle that’s attached to the car that your pulling it will take majority of the force out of the rope and gear attached to it.

I did very similar to both my trailers. Best decision. I can use my winch on either trailer. The winch is 10 years old and still looks new from being indoors. I had to mount my solenoids and fuse block in a small tool box that I carry with the winch and it also holds all the gear. Winching cars is a game changer

Nice job JR but a little to much work.I would have mounted the reciever where you did except I would have added a plate to bolt to the triangular shaped aluminum tread plate on top of the frame rails. That would stop the mount from trying to pivot on the front of the deck and would not have needed all the reinforcements underneath. Still need some outside like he's doing but not nearly as much.
    Just my two cents worth.

I run power to my 10k trailer winch from my truck. #2 cable from the battery through an 80Amp solenoid with a switch to turn it on. Then you can also have jumper cables to plug into the back of the truck if you need them. It works great. Then you never forget the jump box at home or run it out of power.

On my truck I ran two cables back from the battery, have a quick disconnect at the bumper and enough cable to reach the winch. As long as the truck is running have plenty of power for the winch. Also plan on making a front mount for it and run cables there as well. Doubles as a jumper point - once I make up a set of jumper cables with the quick connect on them. Plus most pulls you will not run it as long as you did to spool the line on.

so what is the tongue weight rating on that hitch mount 1000 lbs. according to the northern tool website.
even with figuring in 3 times that number for a failure point i would have one other major concern with 350 lbs. rating on the receiver hitch part.
then multiply the height from the mount to load the fulcrum point.
this needs some extra safety to protect you if it launches all of the winch towards the load being pulled.
this may never fail but just to be safe add two chains that hook from the trailers safety chains to hitch/winch mount chain points.
just a suggestion not trying to be a keyboard engineer.

I don't know what that winch draws for power, but if the truck runs dual batteries, it would be plenty to run power from the front truck batteries to the hitch and install a power pole quick disconnect. Just upgrade the grounds at the front batteries to the chassis and run a 1/0 power wire back (Maybe upgrade alternator charge lead too?). Ground to the frame back there and mount the quick disconnect near the hitch.

For power, mount an AGM battery, in a battery box, under your bed of the truck, Then wire it into the truck’s system so it trickle charges, have an extension of winch power lead permanently wired to that battery and accessible at the rear of the truck so it can be pulled out and plugged into the winch. Then, if you get to a situation where you need to do constant pulls, you can start the truck to have the alternator help keep the amps up.

Change the trailer plug out for a true 7 pin. That will let you wire a 12v charging circuit back from the alternator. now mount a small battery box on the tongue plate and install a good deep cycle battery in it. Wire the winch to that. USE A ON/OFF SWITCH, and remember you will need to wire everything direct because no ground in aluminum.
