1989 was the absolute worst year of my life both of my parents were addicted to drugs at the time this video came out I would watch it back to back and to the truth it eased the pain of what was going on 💯 thank you 🙏
you made it bro

How's everything now? Cheers mate!!🤘🏼😊🤘🏼
Yo también lo veía diario!!
In my humble opinion this is the best powell peralta video of all time. Thanks so much for uploading this. Brings me right back. I'm 43 and yesterday I spent the whole day on my deck. Skateboarding is for life.
BentBilliard i agree , its just everything i love the airwalks the boards the tricks the music pure nostalgic joy
100% bro!!!
Fuck yea bro!! Skating is life!
Agree,46 and still a concrete surfer..
FUCK YA DUDE
Who found this during the quarantine? Best skate video ever. I still have the VHS.
Alex G rediscovering it during it . Saw the videos tapes as a teenager
Nothing better to do than watch old skateboard videos, all the parks are closed.
This video is better quality than my old video.
At that time, each new skate video used to bring a real next level.. Frankie Hill's part was an atomic bomb for me !! ;o)
@@artdudivin I loved that part!!!!!
Jesus, all the weekends spent watching this VHS at my buddy's house, followed by endless hours of just tearing up parking lots, garages and basements. We didnt care about Anything else! Man, life was a hell of alot better back then! Growing up sucks!
Ray Barbee part is legit🤘🏾
style for days and blew my then 14 year old mind.
ray is still one of the greatest guys ever, such a nice man.
just looks effortless, still amazes me watching it now
Lots of stuff in the video is fantastic, but can be seen as a progression from many skaters parts in earlier Powell videos. However, the Ray Barbee segment was at the time, truly original, inspiring and amazing to watch; the way he seemed to glide around the sidewalk and the trick variations he performed were like one WTF moment after another. The shove-it king of '89.
After this vid came out, everyone was doing no comply's outa nowhere like it was the newest thing! Oh, I guess it was! Ha!
This was my first VHS skateboarding movie I saw. I was hooked. I still skate since 1990.
Awesome 👊🏽
Same here bro!
Same here man, in 90 I was in 6th grade and still try to skate but my ankles are pretty much trash now 😂😂
Yeah!! Yo igual sigo, desde esos tiempos 😁
really beautiful reading the comments, this is a really precious little bit of nostalgia for us genXers out there, thanks for sharing Powell Peralta
Agreed 💯
I lived for skating during that time of my life. SK8 or die! I am 42 now and my daughter is stoked on skating, we ride every weekend. Epic sport
ole Brookswado yeah bro im 44 and still rollin, great to see family's bonding over this art form.
Its not a sport, its a lifestyle.
9:13 The Ray Barbee section is so rad, such a slick style. Gotta be my fave street skater ever.
Indeed dude !
Ray Barbee and Frankie Hill are legends. I love Ray busting no complys every few tricks. Such an easy trick but it looks so cool. Skaters these days laugh at people busting boneless and no complys. I'd rather see that than a dude doing treflips.
Ray Barbie was an inspiration to me, as were all of the Bones Brigade. Unbelievable times. The best time of my life. I'm 44, and those times of just waking up, getting with my friends and skating were just unreal.
You mean ken (&) barbie? Barbee - for such an inspiration you would think you could at least know how his name is spelt, or remember the fact its spelt differently then one of the best selling children's toys of all time.
@@bpastorb He's 44 and probably smoked a lot of dope. His heart was in the right place stop hatin'.
@@angrytater2456 So are you calling him so old he can't copy a name down from a caption on the screen (or can't remember it from watching this video 400 times, or having his name on the bottom of his board for years, or reading his name in the captions in the magazines). Or are you saying if you smoke a lot of dope you are allowed to be disrespectful? I don't buy the whole fan allows you to treat someone with disrespect, seems pretty counter intuitive. I also don't buy peoples sappy stories in youtube comments (since I too am 106 been skating 84 years and skated the great pyramids with gonz and jay adams). I've read 1 too many bullshit sob story comments to believe any of them, at all. Mostly likely a 14 year old with a fantasy and a good story. It's reminiscent of those people who interrupt celebrities mid bite at a restaurant for a selfie.. But i am such a fan!!!! Here watch let me prove it with some totally unverifiable method!!!
@@bpastorb Who gives af? Let it go man it doesn't affect you at all. Kids today, I swear. Grow up.
@@angrytater2456 Life lesson - as long as disrespect doesn't affect you then let it go and grow up? Got it. What a wonder how raciscm, homophobia and hatred in general has continued on for this long 🤣 'Doesn't affect you' mentality at it's finest.
30+ years later and I could still sit and watch Ray Barbee skate street all day long. He was so smooth. Lovin these vids! Really taking a guy back!
i'm 40....spending the day on my board after this... thank you for the way back machine!
The Ray Barbee sequence in Ban This is still IMO the greatest of them all. Absolute poetry. So fluid and the music! I remember watching this and my mind was blown and then went to try and learn all the new tricks! Magic. Man I miss skating. I am lucky to have grown up with the Brigade.
totally agree best passage , sound style everythere was cool in this passage 09:13
the cinematography of the Cab and McGill part, coupled with the music......one of the greatest skate parts in history!!!! #facts
My friends and I always hated that part LOL Different Strokes I guess
@Jake Hall Chuck Treece is the artist. Not sure the name of the song. He's a skate renaissance man: ua-cam.com/video/q-dfAwThyE0/v-deo.html
@@threefirstnames123 We need Chuck Treece on the Nine Club.
@@erichanhauser3190 That is such a good idea!
the music/editing/cinematography/tricks of this are just insane
I remember sitting in my buddy's basement in the 90's watching this, and going outside and trying to rip it up like these guys.
Oh my god!!! I totally forgot about this video, I watched it about 100 times when I was a kid. And oh man, the music!!! So glad this popped up on my feed.
All salute, Frankie Hill. We could not believe what we were seeing at the time. Simply amazing! Edit rest in peace Ray. I won't forget you.
I hope Mr's powell and peralta are reading this comment section, look at how much happiness you and the team gave us all in those hazy days of our misspent youths, and the memories we now have of them. Rekindled by watching what is, in most of our opinions the best skate video, made by the best skate team to ever exist...
Long live Powell Peralta, long live the bones brigade og's.
Ray Barbee's skating makes me happy. His part is still so good.
Barbee was just so smooth
Me watching that part this year has made me committed to skating. If I can be as smooth as he is in the same timeframe, 6 years, I'd be super happy. No complies rock.
Frankie Hill, what a legend.
The bulldog board was one of my favorite to ever ride
Frankie is a trip man pure gold of a dude lol
I still own the VHS copy of this that I bought from my local skate shop back in 89 but the magnetic tape has long since lost the ability to play due to 100's of repeated viewings. Thanks for posting this in it's entirety!
My copy is in the same shape,I'm thinking about contacting Stacy and George and asking for an an exchange or refund.
@@buckodonnghaile4309ARE YOU SERIOUS 💀
Man all those Airwalk shoes ! I Miss those so much ! Can't anyone do something and help relaunch that brand ? I want a pair of 540°F again ! ;_;
Yeah no shit I had black airwalk vic velcro that are probably collector item now
What a fucking video.. I'm 45 years old, so you can imagine how precious it is.. Franky hill and Ray Barbee still kill me today.. I live in France, it was not so easy to find videos tapes at that time.. We used to ride for hundred km to buy them on local skate shops
"The Great Gutter Open" is like some early Spike Jonze/Beastie Boys material, creativity off the charts in this video.
I think Ban This was the best video Powell ever made.
Great video for memories. Classic 80s decks, wishing it was back then still riding. I still ride today. Those guys are the O.G.s.
Exactly! They Were The Best. 💯🔥❤
Man I'm so glad to find this here! My dad had the VHS tape and I remembered we'd used to constantly play it when I was a kid! I'm 26 now, and I finally started skating after seeing this again! Man I got so much catching up to do!
Ohh man,What a creation Peralta ,such an Amazing piece of History for Me!!I was 13 when this came out and was at the point where skateboarding had really become the most important part of my day,and this was my morning ritual watching this!! Has truly stood the test of time!!Brings back the greatest memories and moments of all! First board was a McGill Skull n Snake with Indy's and G Bones,Had so many Brigade boards the list goes on and on and so do the stories/moments!Wish I could still skate at 46,but shattered my ankle in my mid 30s and it's never been the same!Ohh Well, the memories and this Movie shall let me skate vicariously for the rest of my years!!Thanks Powell and Peralta and All the Bones Brigade,Truly a Masterpiece!
Probably the best Powell video, next to Public Domain.
I disagree, but as long as your into it cool( future primitive) I'm 49...
richard giudice I respect your opinion too, I’m 18 and a street skater so this fits my preference more, I love Future Primitive and all the other videos as well.
@@harryarmstrong9816 good to see fellow skater and decent person instead of usual trolls 🤘🏾
I dunno. This one featured Niel Blender, and Animal Chin- Johnny Rad. It may be a toss up. Can't deny the Rubber Boys segment too.
You can't pick 2. You can only pick one to be the best
This video I got for Christmas vhs when I was 12 I'm 42 this footage will forever be inspirational in everyway for me and I'm sure all u guys can relate.....we are the lucky ones to have had ths!,,, God bless the start of the 90s lol...
RIP Underhill!
I miss Ray too
Tyrone Koumoundouros brain cancer/tumor
when i was 11 years i saw this video at least 1000 times with my skateboards friends in Italy, what a great memories!!!!
Saw this in the cinema when it came out in Vienna. We never saw a no comply before. Guess what everyone then was practicing like crazy.
All my youth here thanks Powell Peralta
to give us that motivations for the ride in those beautiful years
One love from switzerland
I grew up with this video and probably watched it 500 times. I just watched this and feel like I'm 12 years old again.
Didn't start skating myself until the mid 90s/popsicle-shape era, but this was the first proper skate video I ever saw, and I remember being blow away, as I am today, by the forward-thinking gap & rail skating by Frankie Hill, the buttery smoothness of Ray Barbee.
I had this on video when I was 14 now I’m nearly 46 when I was young there wasn’t any skate parks now I’m old they’re all over think I might get a Powell board and start again i think about skating all the time they were my best years late 80s keep it real skater dudes keep on rolling 🤟🏻✌🏼
Gosh, ... what is it ? 30yrs ago... 1989 or so since i seen this.. EFFIN' great memory.
Gotta be my favourite Powell video.. favourite part has to be Cab on vert with McRad playing.. thanks for posting. If I could time travel back to the 80s and stay there I would…
Powell all day, again and again
Thank you so much for making this available. this was a prized vhs long ago to me. 5 broken limbs, 2 dislocations and a couple concussions later, im 43 going on 12...no worse for wear...🤘😝
I’m 13 and still love watching these movies, I have a bunch of ur decks and I love the way they all feel
First full-length skate vid I ever saw. I was blown away! Rented it over and over (and over) again from Blockbuster, finally bought myself a copy.
Loved the Ray Barbee clip, everything from Film style, to the music to the edit, awsome
Þrŕrŕŕrrŕŕéŕŕ11qdf cfc çc
wich the music
I saw several clips from this video in 1994 in China when I was in middle school. Now I am 43. The feeling is so fresh, just like it happens yesterday. Skate for life!
So many incredibly good memories watching the Powell movies, getting stoked and going skating with mates. Powell Peralta were a huge part of my childhood. I thank you guys
Thank you for uploading this! This was my first skate video I found at Blockbuster way back. Legendary video and soundtrack is insanely good. We need this soundtrack to get released somehow. 🤙🏼✌🏼
Thanks for sharing this Powell Peralta... an amazing video that was an invaluable experience when it came out, almost painful to watch now as it is just quintessential nostalgia to some of the best times
Thanks for bringing this video back out! I watch this a million billion times. Brings back so many memories! Thx!!!
Dope video. Still have this tape after all theses years. Thanks Powell. Takes me back to the olden days.👍
I've just started skateboarding and my dad used to do it loads at the same age as me, he showed me this vid today and it's made me love skateboarding even more and wanna learn even more tricks
I just watched this video on VHS that I'd purchased. It's truly an amazing video. I remember seeing bits and pieces back in 90ish. Although Streets on Fire & Savannah Slamma are two favorite skate vids, this one is probably more entertaining. Frank Hill was getting big as I was quitting. Man, he was sooo rad! He is probably the best street dude I've seen skate. Wow! What a ride! Great video just chock full of nostalgia! Thank you for the upload!
I remember watching this as a kid in the mid 90's in Toronto and not understanding how any of it worked. Then I saw the curb skating and it all clicked. Still ripping curbs and riding with rails 20 years later.
I always loved watching Ray Barbee skate, such a smooth flow
First time I saw this was in the company of Tony Hawk, Frankie Hill and Bucky Lasek
Diaz,Guy,Rudy and Rodriguez part still to this day give me goosebumps! Unbelievable! Makes me wanna grab a board again! And RIP Rodriguez!!!
Airwalk need to reissue those old high tops
Prototypes 540's
They did! The Prototype 600s have been out since Spring 2020
And they have reissued in the last 10 years many other things from the 80s. Proto 500, 540. 600. Vic models in a lot of colors. And also the Atlantic... Even if everything seems to be already sold out, on eBay you can still find this stuff
I drooled over those but could never afford them!..
Thank you for sharing this video. Here in Norway skateboarding was banned from 78 to 89 and the police were chasing people and confiscated their boards. Ray Barbee is epic.
I miss watching this and going out in the am and skate all day and night.best. video ever.
The editing on this is amazing; the clips and music fit perfectly. It's totally of its time but completely unique too. Loved it as a kid skating in rainy UK, love it now.
Randomly looked for this after watching Z-boys on Netflix last night, I have the original VHS of this but couldn’t believe it was on UA-cam, the Bucky Lasek bit still blows me away after 30 years, his style and fluidity was off the hook 😎
This is the greatest Powell Peralta video ever! I can watch it everyday and I remember my progression during this time.
After 30+ years, watching and listening Ban This again. ‘F got chills all over again. Makes the corona crisis bare able.
Barbee rocking Powell and Vision. So damn smooth. Skating just seemed to ooze character back then, what with the flawless incorporation of freestyle and actually trying to “surf” the sidewalk with wall rides, bonelesses, no comps, etc, while still throwing in more technical tricks now and then.
Now, it’s just all about busting your ass 10 times to big spin or tre flip a 20 set and endless k grinds and lip slides. I grew up during the 2000s where everyone was obsessed with clearing giant gaps, but I think it would’ve been so cool to skate during this time in skate history. Thanks for uploading this timeless classic, guys.
Love the fact there's people like me in their 40s and still skate , Im 41 and still love the sport .I ride a Powell vato rats with Powell mini logo wheels
Im 46 and back on it, this brings me back to a better time in skating...I need an older board cause my muscle memory its what I road I'm just now realizing this. I miss this style off street , we need more reissues with modern tweaks .
This video reminds me of a great point in my life when I had just started skating , the inspiration I got from these guys to learn was incredible . I have several of their boards on my wall to remind me of those good days .
Childhood memories with my Street Heroes . Have all VHS and got the Copies now on DVD. Classic as it is. Music editing and the art of style are amazing and still is timeless.
My 1st Board was Per Welinder and i still have it hanging on my Bedroomwall ; )
Barbee still gives me goosebumps. Most classy thing ever, the balance, effortlessness and skills are unparalleled.
One of the best style and video edits ever
What an amazing time to be alive. Thank you for all the memories!
I was 11. they came to my country, Spain, Madrid, on their tour and McGill did 10 McTwists in a row if I recall right. All the people there, my friends, me, we had the time of our lives. Then they spent a lot of time at the top of the pipe signing t shirts. I remember hundreds of t shirts flying to them and they signed every single one of them, mine included (Mike McGill and Tony Hawk).
Then it was night already, and when my friends and I were leaving the Parque Sindical, their van approached us, I rised my hand and Tony Hawk high fived me. Imagine that for an 11 year old.
One of the best days of my life.
Good times.
43 years old and brings me Back in time , saw this before going yo skate Best part the L.A. boyz we're ahead of street skateboarding
Stacy should get an Oscar for this. Cinematic masterpiece. Dead serious. The mood and aesthetic he constructed got me and I’m sure many others hooked to skateboarding for life. Honest opinion from 15yr+ film industry worker.
Stacy’s girl?
This was the first skate video I ever saw. Totally forgot about this! Binging all of PP's videos... can't believe this is #6. So far it's the best. I forgot about all these hilarious skits!
This video BLEW my 13 year old mind back in 1989. Has skateboarding ever been in such a fast progress before or after this very time in skate history!? Frankie Hill is paving the way into the future here 🙏🏻😍
Loving all these old deck shapes from the pre paddlepop stick era. Ahhhh the memories.
Thank you Stacy Peralta! Thank you! I'm crying like a girl now.
Great little piece of history. Really cool to see
My family was station in Germany at the time this video came out,one my bros that was station at the same base,so one of Hus people from Texas sent him the video I love those days in Germany
I grew up on this. Being from Ohio I was hooked seeing all of this stuff that you never saw here.
This is amazing, thank you. I remember it word for word . . . . .
The Ray segment still one of the finest examples of street filming to this date.
If you appreciate filming, you should see the new Thrasher video. Masher, acid rain. Best filming ever
Such memories seeing this in late 89.....i rember I saw it first on Christmas day. New deck ...new video! Skating that night with friends while everything was closed too! Fun times! Best skate era for me 89-90! Hokus pokus best video of all time . ban this is close though !
Happy, happy times. Ray B was the biggest influence to my 10 year old self and tried to replicate his style for the next 15 years. Never succeeded of cause ! But this film shaped the course of my life and will forever be greatful for that.
Watched this multiple times a day , Cab and McGill , Frankie , Hawks end sequence all legendary parts .
La boyz section was sic, of course!!!!
Love the OG LOCKWOOD FOOTY
In the day, I must have watched that Frankie Hill part more than 500 times, I even bought an ultra loose red sweat pant to look like frankie!!! still to this day, I get extremely excited!!! Best years of my life!!! 😢
Damn!!! When this video came out it became my Saturday morning cartoon. My go to before every skate session.
Thank you for sharing this, right now I’m watching this and traveling into my youth through your time machine🙏🏻💯😎
I am 52. Started in 1977. I have tried to do the Ray Barbee line since 1991 and I still have never got the whole line down clean. Never will. Nice work Ray
Definitely a very influential video to my skating evolution! This is the year I met some of the Bones Brigade on tour in Michigan.Love watching these throwback vids!
I'm 11 and it's my second time seeing this, the first time I saw this was on DvD in 2019. Great video! 2019 it really brought me to my senses and showed me that I was a skater at heart. :)
Ray Barbee has such a sick style. His no-complies and rollin 360s are so smooth. His guitar playing is great too.
absolute classic... i had nearly forgot .... thanks for upload
The soundtrack still amazing, timeless
in the first 15 minutes of this video the music is gold.
This is amazing! What great times I had back then seen this video infinite times, I even had the chance to met Steve Saiz and Ray Barbee at Spain’s Premiere
This was the very first or second VHS skate video tape I bought back in the dayz. Fun good ol video! Awsome!
I was skating in the day, damned if i could kickflip now on modern boards, god knows how back then! My friends could, maybe i am just stupid. Forrards, frontside grind and a rock n roll'l do these days. Great post. Thanks.
