- In mid-stretch, 40-1 longshot Knicks Go was tenaciously battling to hang on to the lead in the stretch of the $2 million Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.
Then it was game over.
Now that was an impressive performance from Game Winner. He had basically nothing go his way - slow break, early traffic, wide trip, bumped in the stretch - and he still outfought everybody. If he can keep on developing, he will be one to watch next spring.
whether he continues to develop is a key point, good comment.

Game Winner is one determined horse! The only thing that scares me of him, is his mechanics. I've been watching this horse through the months, and that right front leg (outside leg) the way he kicks it outward, just frightens me, (looks like it is at a vulnerable angle). It is really apparent when watching him running on the far turn. I hope he has a long and successful, injury free racing career, and pray that this horse's mechanics will not be his own undoing (though no fault of his own).

Ran further than anything else in the race, and was pulling away at the end. Much the best.

Knicks Go was 40-1, so funny😂 3 years later he’s horse of the year.
Doesn't matter, since he was winless the next year before really becoming something the year after next.

Best 2yo in a long time even better than American Pharaoh was as a 2yo. Remember AP did not run in the breeders cup juvenile. Game Winner has Royal Blood and a undefeated battle tested record. He runs like a season vet and he is only 2yo.
He will be a monster at 3yo because he has the best trainer training him.
Game Winner is what this sport needs!
He reminds me of horses like Citation and Cigar. When horses keep winning and don't lose it becomes a habit for them to win.
That is breeding and training and a good jockey to ride them to the wire first and this horse has it all.
He went wide and won in churchhill so when the derby comes he won't be alarmed at all by going wide. Now imagine if he gets a perfect trip in the derby from a inside spot.
Either way i like his chances of winning.
The only horse who could give him a run is Instagrand but we shall see.

@@BezmenovDisciple we all agree Baffert's main interest(s) are 2yr olds and triple crown eligibles. Now, putting everything aside, great trainers have great BIG Money owners. D.Wayne hasn't kicked much ass since Gene Klein passed and overbrook went away. Bill Mott went from every horse ready to run/win when Allan Paulson was alive, to struggling for years. Bobby Frankel was a great trainer, but having Juddmonte send him horses was more important than any innate talent he might have had....and on and on. I'm not really saying anything new or groundbreaking, just facts.
@@bishlap You are very knowledgable. I remember D. Wayne Lukas winning alot at Del Mar in the mid to late 1980s. He had silver hair just like Bob Baffert. Charles Whittingham was another Big trainer in the 80s.
Baffert's horses always run strong down the lane. Of course, he only gets good horses these days, but he trains them to run strong to the wire!

Game Winner is the second coming of citation. His name fits him.. he does not lose. He had no business winning this race.
Baffert has game winner and improbable both who seems to like Churchill downs.

IMHO that was terrible coverage of the race, What ever happened to the pan shot that most horse players are used to seeing? Now we get crappy overhead shots and cameras mounted on cables. It's a crying shame
On racing's biggest 2 day event in north america, you expect to see huge crowds over-stuffing the facility. It looks like this was not the case in this years renewal of the BC. One of the things which is clear is that racing must join the 21 st century and do a lot more marketing and get itself back into the consciousness of the average person on the street. Most people have no idea there's a racetrack near them, or what that actually means. If you aren't growing your customer base and fan base, your customer base is shrinking. No organization wants that.

yes, however, I honestly believe horses that win the TC today or any leg of the TC are not the warhorses from past generations. Many reasons -mostly drugs(legal) emphasis on speed, the babying of horses/early retirement/stud duty due to money concerns...There will never be another Forego/forego type - I realize he was a gelding, that will run 50+ races carrying 130+ lbs running 2 mile races. It's always been a money game, but the spirit of horseracing and "horsemen" is gone. Just my opinion, but the magic of the triple crown has lost much lustre.

Game Winner is the only horse out of the BC Juvy field to make it into the Derby, makes me question the quality of the field he beat.
The higher touted horses in this race, i have not heard much about recently other than Knicks go which failed to get enough derby points to get in. Form has been off. Most got injured or threw in the towel and dont want run winning races. Poor quality? Injury?
But what about last year when Good Magic beat Bolt d’Oro, Solomini, Firenze Fire and Free Drop Billy. None of those horses did anything in the Kentucky Derby last year. So the lack of horses out of this race to be in Derby isn’t a huge deal.
