That thing probably cost less than $250 per unit for NAD to build.

Got the same DAC. Very good in my opinion! If you give it the cabling and amplification....it will shine. Be sure to upgrade the fuse!! Maybe some warm Synergetic Research will be a nice match.

We have an all matching Audiolab 8200 series system, i.e CD, preamp and 4 power amps. The most soul destroying design insanity about it is that the CD has XLR out, the power amps have XLR - but the pre amp does NOT! Who designed that?! So even 30 years in to the hobby, still no luck with balanced connections :)
Well I now have a different system where the pre has XLR out and the amps have it, too, but not my CD player....

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Thanks so much for watching.

You probably can get a similar or better quality Chinese branded DAC at a fraction of the price. At the price you paid I would expect a DAC to be at least made in some eastern Europen countries.

Could be - I forgot to mention that was Australian Dollars, so more like 1k USD is what I paid.

The problem with Chinese DACs, sigma delta, is they suffer from digital glare, you can hardly listen to them for 20-minutes let alone play 80's hits. You might get away with it using your HD600 headphones but put these DACs into a revealing system you're into the torture chamber, listen how they reproduce the treble, its almost completely one noted treble.
Higher-end DACs are versatile, they will actually play all music genres without fatigue, sound smooth while retaining the detail.

I am interested in this as a hdmi switch for my projector. How does it sound?
I have an Arcam SR250 but I only use 1 or 2 hdmi inputs. This is one of the only dacs that does hdmi out to a screen.
I may also pass it through a pre amp to do analogue inputs too..

The latest Fosi ZA3s have an XLR input and are mono blocks.

I think it sounds pretty good, but I am biased. I can't comment on your Arcam. Good luck!

@@audionautica6843 it was $2500 when if launched and is great 1 box solution. But also heard great reviews about the NAD.
