I just played this on my new arcade, got memories from back when I was 11 years old playing this. it always appeared to me that he was in pajamas trying to save his cherries. I’m 19 now, so time definitely flew by.
the person that didnt like this probably didnt play this as a kid, this game was realy fun.the free game diamond was EPIC for a kid without to many quarters:)
Oh so many memories. I used to know a trick to get unlimited Mr Do's (in Australia it was spelled Mr Du nonsensically). Wonderful sound design/music. We would play for hours at a time, often in a darkened room, blinded by colourful landscape of Mr Du's world. Makes me feel sad. Thanks for uploading in HD.
jonahlevin67 here in the UK... in our ‘area’ we had about 2 or 3 arcade shops... (different crowds of kids in each)... different schools, different streets but all in the same area/place... we went to ‘JJ’s Café’... where the game was called ‘Mr. Do!’ However, up the road, the game was called ‘Mr. Du!’ but had more of a ‘left handed’ version and less buttons. Not that less buttons mattered with Mr. Du! but the way it was configured was a less ‘exciting’ game to play and the music and sound effects weren’t as good. On reflection, Mr. Du! is Mr. Do’s! lesser, crappy brother! Give me Mr. Do! anytime!😂 Mr. Du can ‘do’ one!
I remember seeing this game for the first time at a grocery store in Chicago when I was in high school. I think it was in 1986. It always caught my fancy that getting the cherries would have it play a scale, and you'd hear the whole scale and get 500 points for getting the whole group of 8 cherries without going off course or stopping.
This is the best game ever. Mr do! came out before dig dig i brought it 1982 3 months before dig dug come out and i still have the game and the system in my loft. my high score was 126500 in 1982.thanks for posting it brings back lovely memories thanks guys big thumbs up
Unfortunately the only time I ever saw this arcade game was in a certain train station, and I only got the chance to play it a few times. Shame as I really loved the game. When MAME came along I was really happy to be able to play it again! :) I'm also happy that a new ZX Spectrum conversion has just been made :)
Who said tomatoes wearing goggles and inflatable dragons were the only hazards faced by miners? Just look at the dangers faced by one of our beloved clown miners, as he struggles for his life in the cherry mines, with only the occasional slice of birthday cake for sustenance. I salute this brave soul, and shed a tear for the many fallen clown miners.
And if you're wondering why he doesn't supplement his diet with some of the giant apples or cherries, 1. All those cherries are owned by the company, with harsh penalties for stealing them, and 2. those aren't eatin' apples, those are droppin' apples, duh.
lol.....I used to have a diamond pattern back when this game first came out in NYC. One quarter and I could stay on the machine for 2 hours. Funny, but the "EXTRAS" I would compile. On the bottom of the screen you had about 6 lives/men it would show. I would have them piled over one on top of each other. I can't even remember what levels I reached, but as soon as the game started, the monsters would turn into diggers immediately. This example of how to play was done by an amateur. I would finish the board leaving 1 cherry and accumulate as many letters for extras. I would set apple traps where the monsters wouldn't escape from the pit they came out of. Or I would dig crooked vertical paths and drop an apple. In the angle it would come down, the monsters couldn't escape the descending apple. This game was a lot of fun and a favorite of the 80's gamers in the NYC neighborhoods.
I remember when you dropped an apple on a lot of monsters at one time, the better chances of a diamond appearing. The vertical apple drop worked like a charm.
+popi2971 Yes, I myself have had that happen to me a few times, including when you kill the last alpha monster to complete the word "EXTRA" and get an extra life, as is the case at the time you cited. :^)
Don't laugh...but when I was a kid, I thought the power ball was called "The Universal". Wayyyy back then, I didn't realize that Universal was the company who owned the game...lol
I used to play this game in my dentist's office as a kid! (no quarters required!) For years after, I remembered the sound effects and everything, but for the life of me could not remember the name of the game. Thanks so much for the upload!
We used to have a Mr.Do arcade game at a local bowling alley in NJ back around 1987. This game was awesome! We played it all the time. This one dude used to consistently get half a million points and was an expert at getting the EXTRA.
Awesome classic game! One of the best. It's one of the first one's I loaded onto the Super Retro-cade SD card. I'm lucky if I finish the first 2 levels but it's still a blast playing all these classic games again.
I have seen newer versions of the game in an arcade machine. They are way harder. If you eat a candle in the middle of the screen, the screen becomes red. That hasn't changed. But what has been changed is, that the blue apple eaters are faster than you. So there is a higher chance to die. Unlike the original version where I got more than 1 million points, the newer versions completely defeated me after just a few rounds.
I remember having played this game very long in a snackbar. I considered having beaten the game completely because I had more than 1 million points. The game wasn't able to display this amount of points, but it didn't crash. Then I got annoyed and asked one of the boys besides me watching me playing, whether they want to take over from me.
also at the time this game had different dimensions of play going on.i mean you gathered fruit, you were tryn to spell extra for free guy, smashn baddies, goin for score.and of course the never ending hope of finding a diamond!
the song is called The Elephant Never Forgets by Jean Jacques Perrey. in Mexico it was used as the theme song of a very popular Mexican comedy show called El Chavo Del Ocho, maybe you heard it from there! c:
+Nightmare Bloodshed He, along with Gershon Kingsley, composed the "Baroque Hoedown" music that was adapted into Disneyland's "Main Street Electrical Parade."
Avery Pack this was far better than DigDug and it was stupidly hard after scene 20 or so... still got this game. Love it. Many happy days in the arcades. Defender, Rygar, Bub & Bob, Phoenix and Mr. Do! Best games ever!
Nyuk Chew Lai Dig Dug came out about 6 months earlier but is was total shite compared with the graphics, music and gameplay of the far superior Mr. Do... If you play them both today, Dig Dudddd is boring compared to Mr. Do! I played, I don’t know if playing this at 11 counts, but it still holds a significant part of my childhood.

So simple but yet so vibrant colourful and put you in a good mood the upbeat tune was so catchy
my dog loves the sounds from this game.
It’s an earworm too.😂
I remember playing the hell out of this back in the '80s in my local arcade Lol.
W Leon yes is 1980's game but i love the 80's game

WHAT!?😬😁😂
Dig Dug came out in April 1982. Mr Do came out in October, I believe.
Perhaps one of the most challenging and at least top 10 best Arcade games ever!!! In my opinion... Mr. Do!!!
Unfortunately the only time I ever saw this arcade game was in a certain train station, and I only got the chance to play it a few times. Shame as I really loved the game. allen harper ...a juicy diamond though... 💎

Jimmy JC and the UK North...

that damn diamond at 6:02, use to hate missing that. good memories

best sound on an arcade game ever

This is actually the first time I've seen gameplay footage of this game and already it kinda reminds me of Dig Dug in a way.
I love this game. You did well. Although if there was one thing I hated it was when your ball got stuck in an endless loop at times.
Level 8 - oh MAN, you got a diamond on a level-end apple! I HATE it when that happens!
Lol especially as hard as it is to get one!
Robert Brooks In this case, the level ended because he spelled out all the letters of EXTRA, for an extra life of course.
A mí no me jodan ahi sale la canción del Chavo del 8. xdxd
I love you loved this game so much back in the 80's and the can can music too. This was my favorite game back then
I have this on SNES, damn fine port of it, and I thought the Colecovision version was the best :)
This is my favourite game ever, forget Doom, Bioshock, Halo, Fallout, I could play this all day!
Mr. Do was like the follow-on to Dig Dug. Liked both games!
I had a knock-off DOS game as a kid called Digger, and didn't know about the real thing until much later. That's the shame of small-town living.
This must be one of Roger Rabbit's favorites!
I can see why.😂
2:20 - The song that plays whenever the Alphamonster appears alone is "Little Brown Jug."
You are like a freaking ninja at some of these games.
I used to play a game called Mr. EE! on my BBC Micro and it was identical to Mr. Do!
So much better than Mr. Don't!
The tune heard at 7:54 is also the stage clear/pause music in the ColecoVision version.
I have seen newer versions of the game in an arcade machine. They are way harder. If you eat a candle in the middle of the screen, the screen becomes red. That hasn't changed. Mr Do, or Mr Don't - there is no Mr Try. At first, Dig Dug seemed better, but there are so many extra details in this game...
6:01 You got the diamond to appear but that round ended!
This VG is sure to certainly much better than 'Dig Dug.'
I remember having played this game very long in a snackbar. I considered having beaten the game completely because I had more than 1 million points. The game wasn't able to display this amount of points, but it didn't crash. Then I got annoyed and asked one of the boys besides me watching me playing, whether they want to take over from me.
Mister Do was the thinking man's Dig Dug.
I played this at a local bodega circa 1986-87
4:03-4:13 THAT'S THE FREAKING ASTROBOY THEME SONG!
ESSE JOGO MARCOU A MINHA INFÂNCIA. EU JOGAVA MUITO ELE. PORQUÊ ELE DAVA DIAMANTES A GENTE GAMHAVA CRÉDITOS A MAIS PRA JOGAR.
also at the time this game had different dimensions of play going on.i mean you gathered fruit, you were tryn to spell extra for free guy, smashn baddies, goin for score.and of course the never ending hope of finding a diamond!
OMG, Mr. Do, i dreamed about this game;6:02 a diamond it was like a little orgasm. If i get dement and alzheimer, please play this music for me.

Memories of the 80's fantastic
why did the game end after level 10
Is this arcade (mame) or coleco?
Arcade MAME
They need to bring this to xbox! This is way better than dig dug
99 lives on the first stage if u do the pattern right and sacrifice yourself
Mr.Do it's fun to play even they collect all the Cherries . Yeah i like this game it's remaids from Dig Dug
🍒🍒🍒🍒 We want Cherries 🍒🍒🍒🍒
2:37 is so damn familiar

This game don't have loops?
Yes it does does loop but I guess for game play sake they must have changed up the dip switches.
Why did the game end when you had some men left? Doesn't it keep going?
The video was cut not exceed 10 minutes.
gracias que recuerdos
I guess this copied Dig Dug.
nope. same year
Rohan Padiyar They came out the same year. This was better than Dig Dug, but harder.
Avery Pack this was far better than DigDug and it was stupidly hard after scene 20 or so... still got this game. Love it. Many happy days in the arcades. Defender, Rygar, Bub & Bob, Phoenix and Mr. Do! Best games ever!

PS - I wish there was a way for this to be ported to Android, but it wouldn't be the same without the joystick I guess.
3:07 cheeky :O
I always wanted to get a diamond, but never did. Mr. Do! the not Dig-Dug.
Amo💝
The monsters look like cookie monster
I believe there is an infinite life cheat but could never do it on the mame xbox version

Nope, it loops around, but the video was cut down to less than ten minutes
This had to have been cheating. You were dead by game rules several times.

I gotta call BS, I play this all the time, apples kill you (and should have) many times in this vid. but at least the game is getting some pub... my fave. I
