Nice to see a few large fairground rides during Leicester City Christmas Fair. I hope that the Sky View, the Gallopers and the Ferris Wheel come back to Leicester this year as I plan on doing POVs of them for my UA-cam channel when I go to Leicester on the 25th November; I'm on a coach excursion that day. Not many big fairground rides here, but still worth it.
Thank you Gimbal Man, I still regard Leicester as my home even though I've not lived there for many years. The old place doesn't seem so bad, it's suffered, like many city centres, from the nail bar and coffee shop blight but it still has charm. Happy days, happy memories ❤
I’m loving this, I was born in Leicester and left 50 years ago! Although I have gone back several times it’s so interesting to see what the buildings are now and what I remember them to have been. ❤
I live in Leicester and haven't been to 'town' (as we call it here) in years, because unfortunately it is becoming less attractive, a lot of drinkers and drug users everywhere, and the good shops just aren't there anymore, its not as pleasant of a place to be as it used to be, but this is bringing back many childhood memories, even though its drastically changed, especially the Silver Arcade! Thanks man.
I was born and raised in Leicester but left in 1971 with my husband and children to live in his home town. I have fond memories of my old home but, sad to say, apart from street names I don't recognise anything. It all looks so different. I'm glad to see though that it still looks to be a prosperous city.😊
You made my home town look so nice! It’s such a shame the market is so quiet, it used to be so busy and every stall would be open. So many eating places now where there used to be banks, beautiful buildings. Thank you and hope to bump into you in Melton Mowbray soon (I know you have already been but you missed the area around the church, so pretty). You should go when it’s one of the vintage markets/classic car Sundays.
@@GimbalWalkTV on 2nd, 3rd & 4th December there’s a Traditional Christmas Market, live music and entertainment, dancing to 40’s music in the market square, and Christmas Tree Festival in the Church which is wonderful to see. The Vintage Market /Classic car meet will start in April and is on the 1st Sunday of every month.
My mum used to stand on Leicester market on a Tuesday (D35), and my dad worked at the BUSMC, in the 70's/80's I worked at James Walker in the market place which I think is now the Leicester City football memorabilia shop. I then moved to Walker and Hall which opened onto Horesfair Street opposite the town hall square and the other entrance out to the market (the building was bought by the council and then demolished). Growing up in Leicester "60's to 80's" the town had lots of character which has been totally destroyed and I'm glad I left Leicester thirty-five years ago.
Thank you young man, we really enjoyed that, and thank you for sticking up for our city. The crest on the leicester badge, says semper Eadem, always the same in Latin,so wrong, as a resident for nearly 70yrs, we have seen enormous change, over the decades, some for the good, some not,but overall, personally I agree with you, mostly still friendly, and especially around the cathedral area, with King Richard the 3rd,lovely area. Thank you again, and looking forward to watching the rest of your walks.
I am ok thanks it is a nice place to walk round and nice to see a church but no Christmas decorations up yet and it's very peaceful but not to busy have a nice walk round and tea or coffee to drink
Although, I have never been here, I hope to visit soon. My daughter lives here, student at the university of Leicester. She loves Leicester and the people. ❤ Enjoyed watching your video.
I live in Ratby and Arriva have now reduced our 27 service to St Margaret's to just one an hour. As it now takes a long time to visit and return it is no longer worth the effort. Most of the buses travelling through our village are almost always empty. It can no longer be a viable commercial proposition and I believe many working in the city centre will have to carefully consider their future prospects in view of the inconvenience. At one time everyone was encouraged to use Public Transport.
Thanks for this video and for showing it in a positive light. A few things have changed since filming. The city’s down to earth and not pretentious. Unfortunately many locals (mainly) are negative. It has its issues like all cities, but that’s what people seem to dwell on here. There’s more to the city than how much retail there is! Cities change and that’s their nature. Please visit again this Christmas if you can! 👍🏼
I have a sad face for Leicester (my City) looking at this footage. I recall years back when you had to walk in the middle of the road (along Granby Street) and likewise around the Market to get anywhere at a decent pace. Now it all looks so deserted! Lots of property to let in the centre (because of high business rates). I'm afraid to say it is a shadow of it's former, more prosperous years. I'm curious to see how it compares to some of the other nearby cities from your videos, to see if it's the same elsewhere. Welcome back to Leicester though Gimbal Walk TV (happy face)!!

Yay ❤ my home town. Your video makes it look nice and clean lol, having said that, there are some lovely shopping areas and plenty of history. I was waiting to see the fountain and town hall square which is beautiful at Christmas. It's usually all lit up and the grounds decorated in a theme for kids. I make a point to go see it myself every year, even though my kids are older teens now. There's also other areas like the New Walk museum and Abbey Park which is very picturesque and has lots of ancient ruins. They have a funfair in summer. All in all, I'm quite pleased with where I live, it's got something for everyone. Plenty of nightlife too, also the showcase cinema. I've lived/moved around in Leicester but never further out. I must just feel comfortable here lol. ❤
Shall be on the wheel next week, then a walk round to see the beautiful lights. Leicester lights are all over and not to be missed. Also booked for Christmas Carol in the Guildhall, fantastic

Born, raised and still reside in Leicestershire. I used to work in the town centre but sad to say that I am glad I don't ever have to go in there now. I don't like shopping at best of times but when I have no choice but to go I prefer out of town retail parks with lots of free parking.
which time and day did you film this? It sees so calm and peaceful, everytime I go its load and packed with loads of people so it would be nice to go when its quite, thank you!
I wish Leicester had Christmas markets like Nottingham. It's a shame as there is plenty of space for this. It would bring more visitors to the town centre.

@Gimbal Walk TV Its a beautiful area very green with lots of sensational architecture (predominantly Victorian and Edwardian but with a few lovely Art Deco buildings scattered abart).
