The Current Producers & Actors Should Of Never Been Allowed To Open 'Funny Girl' In The 1st Place. You Never Take A Legend Broadway🎭Classic Show & Change One Act, One Word, One Song Ever. This Present Show Has Bastardized 'Funny Girl' & Should Of Closed The Night Before It🖕Opened!
@agentofficerthomasa.porter107: Who the h**l are you to make a stupid comment like that? FUNNY GIRL is not a “classic” musical. It was average, a good serviceable score, problematic book that caused the show’s opening to be postponed five times causing Columbia records to pass on recording the cast album even Streisand was signed to their label. You have an opinion but it’s totally wrong. The production needs a good actress with a strong voice; Beannie Feldstein was a dumpling who couldn’t act well and sang worse.
I saw Mimi last year on her 80th birthday, at 54 Below in NYC. She was absolutely wonderful. Two weeks ago, I saw her performing at 54 Below again, to celebrate "Funny Girl"'s 50th anniversary. She brought the house down. We'll never see performers like her again.
Yes, she has great emotional power, tonal beauty, and great comic sense. Sutton Foster can eat her heart out. Christine Ebersole probably comes closest, or Jane Krakowski, if you could get her back into theater.
Truly the perfect replacement for Our Barbra. A truly funny girl/lady who could pull at your heart strings with her gorgeous vocals proving talent is beauty.
She was an amazing performer. I forgot about her wonderful voice...and acting. She was so funny that it sometimes overshadowed the other talents. Loved seeing this...
What a brilliant performance! Although I've heard of Mimi Hines, Iv'e never seen her perform. She has what Streisand lacks, vulnerability. She reminds me of Judy Garland, both in voice and acting ability. Thanks for posting!! In voice and
I wouldn't entirely agree.... Ms. Streisand in the movie was very vulnerable.... not knowing how to cope with her husband's downfall and imprisonment - I think both these ladies are great talents and can understand your comparison to Ms. Garland but I feel every performer should be taken on his or her own merit rather than compared to others. I will you well
As much as Mimi Hines is fabulous, Streisand totally captured a level of vulnerability that had not been seen before since Garland. You must have some grudge against BS or something because it's one thing to praise the performance of Hines and it's quite another thing to try to bring down one of the greatest singers of all time that captures every emotion in a song.
I've been looking for this for some time. Thanks for posting it. I remember seeing this particular number with Mimi Hines on the Ed Sullivan show when I was little. Always loved her.
Mimi is AWESOME. WE share a lawyer and have met her a few times here in NYC and she is a lovely lady. She's along in years now (in her 80's), but always sweet and wonderful and still in there kickin!
I love Mimi Hines. A great comedian and impressive singer. A perfect replacement for Barbra in the show. It continued to run for over another year on Broadway! Thanks for posting.
The American/Canadian Legend Of Broadway🎭& Television📺Star⭐Mimi Hines🌠Celebrated Her 89th Birthday July On📆2022 & Sounds Great & Remains An Amazing UnConditional Loven💞Soul🌠!
For the sake of accuracy, Barbra did not leave the show to make the movie. She left in 1966 to appear in the London version. She started filming the movie in 1967.
“For the sake of accuracy” Streisand only did the London production as a means of guaranteeing getting the film role which the producer, Ray Stark, insisted on. She was only in the London production a few months before dropping out due to pregnancy. But she got the film role!
The American theater is GREAT! But......................Once a performance is over for the night......it's gone. Even if you're doing a 5 year run, one performance is never like the previous. There is ALWAYS something just a little special going on in that night's performance. Too bad we can't see those performance runs, even one night's show on film. Like the ole kine-scopes of early TV, they're lost into oblivion. I was in highschool when BS was doing "Funny Girl" on stage and I wished that I could go to NY and see the performance. I never knew that Miss Hines took up the character of Fanny. I had seen Miss Hines occasionally on TV doing different things and I thought she was very entertaining, bubbly and attractive.
Did she mess up a lyric in "Who Are You Now"? On the original cast album the lyric is "How can you compare it to the views you've seen?" Did they change it to "Now that you've walked in the door and through my dreams" (which doesn't exactly rhyme) somewhere along the line, or did she forget the actual lyric and came up with that one on the spur of the moment (which if so is pretty impressive)? She was clearly a professional and a great performer.
Not really sure. Mimi COULD'VE come up with a lyric on the spot - she was THAT sharp even in old age... It could've also been a new/alt lyric they were trying out. Also, the original lyric could have been flagged by censors for some NONsensicle reason and a change requested on VERY short notice as was known to happen in those days, but who knows? "Hardly a man is now alive," as the old poem says.
Don't believe even catty legend you hear from theater queens. If Streisand had walked through the show it would never have run for so long. Were some performances better than others? Yeah, but the same could be said of Merman, Alfred Drake or any Broadway headliner in a successful show.
@@chrisn7259 “Don’t believe Chris N” what he says about Alfred Drake or Ethel Merman; they didn’t phone anything in. BUT it is true that some nights are better than others and in order to get through a long run stars have to pace themselves in performance to not burn out as Judy Garland did.
At a guess, it was the show's 2nd or 3rd time on Sullivan and the movie was underway too so they maybe wanted to show the audience (especially a potential audience) something they had not seen that they could only get on Broadway... but just guessing.
It was not a weird selection, it was a balance between a production number (Brice’s professional life) and an emotional one (Brice’s personal life). And it showcased Mimi Hines very well.
I am glad to see you consider yourself unworthy of writing Ms. Streisand's name, who is still going on strong in TV, movies and concerts after all these years. What ever happened to this mimi hines person...?
I do not consider myself unworthy... Neither do I consider Barbra Streisand so. While I have never met her we have a couple of mutual friends and I have great admiration for her and always have. This posting, however was not about her. Mimi is a friend of mine and she has had a lovely career for well over 60 years. Anyone who makes a living performing has done so MIRACULOUSLY no matter what level your career may reach and the fact that she is in her 80s and still bringing down the house here in NYC is not nothing.
Hello @patnstephan 2, I agree with you. although I'm not a fan of Mimi's she did have a great challenge. It was replacing Barbra Streisand. In what would be unusual today in a show that ran over 1,300 performances there were only 2 stars: Barbra and Mimi. That alone tells you something about Mimi's appeal at the time and her professionalism. Believe Ignacio Perez: If she weren't a crowd pleaser she would have been fired early in the run. Few successful performers don't reach the fame and longevity of Barbra Streisand but Mimi Hines has been longterm success in her own right.
Such a wonderful voice and great talent! She'll be missed...
