I think it's an excellent convenience, but far from being a feature that would lead me to buy a new camera. The same can probably be said for many of the most recent enhancements, but it is all dependent on the type of photography one does and where one is looking to take it. A secondary consideration for me regarding a choice between this and a piece of glass is how much faster / more responsive it would allow me to be - assuming the filter holder is attached, i'm guessing that dropping in a piece of glass and physically rotating would be quicker than setting-up and messing around via the screen. Good to see Oly (OM) continuing to look to find innovative solutions - it's what has kept the system alive thus far. Cheers - well done vid. Very useful and easy to use feature. I wish a firmware update will be available to the OM 1 Mark 1 that I own.

Very glad to see Live GND implemented at last; a feature I suggested a year and a half ago!

Excellent appraisal, thank you. As an OM1 Mk1 user I won't be upgrading at this moment in time because as far as I'm concerned there isn't a big enough jump!
Regarding the computational features in Olympus/OM cameras, well they are unbeatable, I have been using them for 10 years!

Thanks for the comment. Yep, seems OM System are leading the way with this area.

I gotta say, it is a nice tool! However, i used to do just that with a sony a7 (first generation) and a sony app for the a7 a loooong time ago. It takes two raw files, combines them and gives you a final raw file. Also with the horizon level etc… greetings!

Good video, I have subscribed. I've been using Olympus, now OM Systems, cameras since 1975 when I purchased the original OM1, followed in 1978 with an OM2. Since then I have owned every model of the EM1 series, and currently own an OM1. I pre ordered my OM1 mark II when the new model was announced. I will be using mine mainly for macro, insects in flight and some close ups of birds in flight. The enhanced AF and ProCapture are reason enough for me to purchase an OM1 mark II. That, and the fact that we're a long time dead and there are no pockets in shrouds, of course.

Glad I checked. I was just about to order a set of ND filters. Thank you!

Nice demo - perfect situation for ND, blown out clouds but dim ground. Very challenging to salvage that kind of photo once you've hit the dynamic range limit. Looks like it works!

Good video. As you so rightly say, no other cameras have done this.

For several of your sequences of increasing GND filtration, it seems the ambient exposure of the foreground was also changing making it difficult to judge the GND effect. Were you manually choosing the foreground exposure?

    • @adventuresinaperture
      @adventuresinaperture  9 місяців тому +2

Exposure was set to manual so a constant shutter speed and aperture. It was windy though and fast moving clouds could have allowed more light to fall on the foreground between shots

It would be interesting to know if the GND effect is baked into the RAW file or is the in camera effect the same as could be done in post processing. In other words is the GND effect allowing the camera to capture a scene with greater dynamic range than would otherwise be possible without the aid of glass filters?

Thanks for an informative video. Doess the GND work in Bulb mode for long exposure photography?

Thanks for the kind words - I can confirm the Live GND is not available when using Bulb mode!

I'm sure the answer is "no," but did you test if the "Live ND" and the "Live GND" features are stackable?

Thanks for the comment - I can confirm you can't use both features at once at present, that could probably be fixed with a firmware upgrade however!

Its not worth the upgrade cost from the OM1.1 given the advancements in processing software or by using HDR1 on the OM1. Lastly its the sky you want to effect and not the subject these days the only filter that is required is a polarizing. Id skip this camera and wait a couple of years for the next with more realistic cost benefits. (I have an OM1.1, EM1MKIII and EM10MKIII WITH A BAG FULL OF LENSES)

Still need a reverse grad. Polarization filter. If they can figure that out, then wow.

In 2024 a GND filter is no longer necessary. Neither as a glass filter nor as a filter in the camera as implemented by OM System.
The dynamic range of every camera of the last 5 years is so large that you can easily achieve the same effect of a GND in RAW processing without the risk of getting problems with the GND.

A nice feature but not worth upgrading. Especially at the price they want for the camera. As has been said this feature is not new. Disappointing it’s not in a firmware upgrade 😢

    its not 'that' great.
it is not real time, it stacks and processes in 5 sec. it randomly decides on any movement, sometimes it freezes, sometimes it blurs. ie swaying trees and birds flying by could be deleted on its whim.
also, you cant change exposure settings on the fly as the dials are locked out. only EV can be changed
but the biggest hit is the trees dont get cut out from the background from the GND. ie you get darkened trunk halfway down the tree. on can do that on a PC.
So for a clear sky, the ND transition is too obvious. cloudy sky can hide the change of brightness.
