Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods?

It's no wonder Penny not knowing who Stan Lee is. Until the MCU went to the point where the whole world was looking at it, Stan Lee was known only to comic book geeks.
And most of the reactors I've seen that started reacting to the MCU, most of them didn't know who Stan Lee was until viewers pointed out to them who he is and why it's important. They immediately embraced his importance, and started looking for the cameos, but shows that even now unless someone knows comics, which Penny surely doesn't, they wouldn't know. And even if the MCU existed then, Penny wouldn't know unless they pointed it out and explained it to her.
he was in all the raimi spider-man and the amazing spider-man movies, all the x-men movies, the 2 fantastic four movies and the ang lee hulk so he was already pretty popular before the mcu

The scene of Sheldon accepting the award was Jim Parsons' submission for the Emmy's. That year he won his first Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing Sheldon. The first Emmy of 4. Seasons 3,4,6 and 7.

In five words, you pretty much summed up the premise of the entire series. 😉
You got to think, the only main stream Super hero movie that really got any attraction when this show started, was the Spider Man movies, and some of those weren't released yet, so its 100% statistically Probable that Penny wouldn't know who Stan Lee is. Comic books and Super heros used to be a very geeky niche thing.
Season 3 aired in 2009, it is kinda understandable she didn't know Stan Lee, Marvel still wasn't as hyped as today and she isn't interested in superheroes, let alone comics.

Fun Fact: At 11:26 the judge’s name is in honor of the late, great, Jack “The King” Kirby. Stan Lee and J. Kirby worked as the greatest team in comic history back in the Silver Age of comics (1960’s). I love how the show adds little Easter eggs for the viewer to find and discover. Hmm, I wouldn't say Stan wasn't mad for nothing. If I was world-famous and late in the evening my doorbell rings and 2 people I don't know are standing there, I'd also be a bit miffed. When you're home, that's your private time, and people coming by unannounced (especially if you're famous) is incredibly annoying.
The Stan Lee episode is one of my top favorite episodes in the series. I still crack up🤣🤣 at the part where Sheldon gets locked up in jail after disrespecting the judge.
Stan did give many characters names with the same first letter in the first and last name in order to make them easier to remember, as back then they didn't have a huge staff of writers at the time, so he was doing several of the comics at the same time. Didn't always work so well as he once accidentally referred to the Hulks alter ego in one comic as BOB Banner instead of Bruce. That's why his name ended up being Robert Bruce Banner. Odd that they went with David for the tv show avoiding both names already established.

Did you notice that the judge's nameplate said "J. Kirby?" Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were the co-creators of the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and the X-Men. (And Jack Kirby and Joe Simon co-created Captain America in 1941, before Stan ever got into comics.)
Also Stan was wearing a bathrobe with the number 4 on it!!

not surprising her character has no idea who he is, before Marvel movies became popular the only people who knew who he was were people who were really into Marvel. I didn't really know about him till the movies came out and I was a bit "Nerdy" growing up
I think in early 2010 there were a lot less people actually knowing and recognizing him outside of comic book fandom than there are today.

Just because there's exceptions doesn't mean Stan Lee's naming pattern doesn't exist. Hell, I picked up on that when I was a kid.
Season 3 of The Big Bang Theory happened at the beginning of the MCU (and Stan Lee was not as known at that time among non comic book related peoples as he his now, after so many cameos in so many MCU movies).

I don't even remember how many times have I rewatched this show, but it is so refreshing to watch your reaction to it.
My dad once waited 7 years for my mom to say I love you, never once pressuring her about it, one day it just slipped out accidentally when she was feeling comfortable enough to say it.
So yeah, you can't force it, pressuring someone into saying it won't lead anywhere good, even if they do say it you don't know if it's just because of the pressure or if they genuinely mean it.
of all the shows you mentioned, I would be interested in the HBO The Last of Us series as well as Drake & Josh. only because I'm familiar with them among the list. can't wait for Steven Universe too :3

But Penny probably didn't even watch Iron Man, and even if she did, would still not likely know Stan Lee. Most people who just watched the MCU movies, but had no comic knowledge still didn't know who Stan Lee was.
I think Young Sheldon would be perfect for after Big Bang. But then would you please consider reacting to the TV Psych? Their tag line is “Fake psychic, real detective.” The show concept is very original with some incredible characters. The character development in almost every character, from season 1 to season 8 is phenomenal. One detective goes from a character you want to punch in the first few seasons, to one you want to hug. Aside from the TV show, they did a musical episode, which wasn’t horrible like I thought it would be when I head it was coming. Additionally, they’ve done 3 TV movies for the show after the show ended. The list of guest stars that start appearing in season 2 is mind blowing. They had stars like Tim Curry, my favorite was Cary Elwes, then we also had Alley Sheedy, Rachael Leigh Cook, Danny Glover, Curt Smith of Tears for Fears, Molly Ringwald, Freddie Prinze Jr., Christopher Lloyd, George Takei….. it’s too long a list to name them all, plus ruin some of the surprise if you decide to watch. The show has a dedicated fan base called Psychos and the show has running gags the fans loved. For example, right from the pilot episode, there is a pineapple in every single episode of the show. Either an actual pineapple, a picture of a pineapple or a pineapple flavored something. The show is obsessed with the 80’s so there are a ton of references to movies and bands from the 80’s…. Curt Smith of Tears for Fears of the 80’s I’d one of my favorite guest stars. He has small parts in a few episodes over the years. Anyway, something to consider, I’d imagine Big Bang and Psych share quite a few fans. Your fans can tell you if they think it’s a good idea or not.

Cody, can't help from making another comment. Penny's fluttering blinks at 43:26: "What's Up, Doc?" (1972). Giant Ants: "Them" (1954). Giant Rabbits: "Night of the Lepus" (1972). Look 'em up on IMDB. One of the things I love so much about the writing on BBT is that they know things like this. I still swear 'geeks' (is that what we call ourselves now?) my own age were writing the scripts. Classic cult films I hope you'll watch one day.

I would LOVE to see you react to some really cool short shows (so that way you can get through them really quick and then move on to more awesome shows) like IMPOSTERS, TELL ME A STORY, WITCHES OF EAST END all around 20episodes and for sitcoms SANTA CLARITA DIET, WRECKED, THE DETOUR all around 30episodes... and for longer sitcoms I highly reccomend MODERN FAMILY!

Man, towards your intro it's crazy to me how hard some companies make it to post reactions..like, it's free advertising. I've literally seen shows people were reacting to and went to watch them afterwards. Can't wait to see you watch Steven Universe though, gotta be one of my favorite shows ever.
