Gerald albright always🔥🔥🔥
Sadly Gerald Albright never played on a conn Chu Berry which is by far my second favorite saxophone other than the mark six. I guess it’s personal preference.
@@BKrystall yea he collarborated with cannonball instruments to make a horn tailored to his needs. So what more can you ask for?
I second gerald Albright when he plays with phil Collins he is amazing
One of the best
Is big sax
Wow, amazing job putting this together and thanks so much for having me participate! Everyone sounds fantastic!
you were amazing man!!!
Top notch video quality plus an elegant choice of notes 👍🏻
You ere my Maestro 👍
Which mouthpiece did you use?
ABSOLUTELY NAILED THE SOLO BRO!!!
i'm actually pretty big on jay's solo here. The stuff he played definitely wasn't as technically demanding as like... Chad's solo haha, but it wasn't a walk in the park, and definitely did demonstrate a lot of musical maturity even beyond some of the players on the list. I found it was actually a refreshing break, especially following a lot of likewise amazing players playing amazing things. Wish i could play as half as well as the artists featured here!
this comment is underrated, I've gotten to know a large portion of the list fairly well, and Jay came in like a fine wine while erryone else is taking shots.
I fully agree
@@alexmurillo7434 Chads was single malt whiskey for sure
Jay appreciates the gaps and silence between the notes he plays. It's the one thing he keeps stressing in his excellent videos.
Different strokes for different folks. What a great way to compare styles!
I'm just missing Dahean Choi
:´)
Excelent job
Angel Asmat thats what i was thinking but he his in the military service
Jim, Great job on this. Thanks very much for asking me to be on it - I'm really honored to be in the company of all of these amazing players. Great job everyone!
Hey Jody, you're more than welcome. What a great solo you played, loved those opening few lines
Great job Jody! Loved your solo and it’s really inspiring as a player that uses your mouthpieces, can’t wait to hear more!
Now this is FUN to watch. Thanks to Jim Cheek for putting this together... what a huge undertaking. Honored to be a part of this.. what a blast!
sou teu fa
You all were great.
You're welcome Mindi. Your solo solo is great! Fantastic to have you on this
@@jimcheek304
Crazy idea Jim. Now go and lie down mate. Hope those saxes are not gathering to much dust in the lockdown!
you crushed
Best 12 minutes I've spent on UA-cam in a long while. I kept saying "Yeah man!" through the whole thing. Derek representing bari sax was smoking. I'm greedy and want another international collaboration sooner than later.
After listening to all these solos I'm left with one thought above all else... Michael Brecker really changed the way we play the saxophone.
So he was the root of all that style influence then?
This style of playing would certainly look different without the Brecker brothers and Michaels influence generally on sax players.
It was great to see Tom Scott. Haven't heard him in years.
@JazzBariMan
Timestamp?
Im a big fan of Tom Scott's LA Express
@@dcross8034 Way back when, Tom Scott was touring with the Northern Illinois University Jazz Band. A band I was playing with had Arnie Lawrence in as a guest soloist and clinician. I had the privilege of taking Arnie into Rolling Meadows to meet up with Ron Modell and the NIU Band. I got to have dinner with the saxophone section, with Arnie Lawrence sitting to my left, Modell to his left and Tom Scott to Modell's left at the head of the table. Scott gave me some great advice that night about saxes, which to get, and a host of other things. It was a blast to hear Scott solo and then Lawrence take a chorus or eight right after him. I miss Arnie Lawrence. He was a great guy, a great soloist, and a fantastic musician.

Glad to see Dean Mongerio in this. He is an absolute monster player.
Seen him four times. Always good sound system and varied material.
With the way Jay’s solo ended and Dean’s began with how the rhythm section changed was beautiful. It was my favorite moment. I’m checking out more on Dean Mongerio for sure.
Yeah that's cool and all but where's Bill Clinton
- Don McCaslin missed out, too.
I don't know where he's at but it's probably a good guess that he's not with Hillary.
@@juicycle just bring chris potter and game over..
Bill Clinton? Errrr this is for saxophone players 🙂
@@espr7564 what u talkin abt he’s the best of all time
Chad is an absolute monster
*chad
Reminded me of Brecker a bit
Oh def
A Chad dare I say
Maybe against the grain, but I didn't care for his solo here. Rough in the wrong places.
I love how everyone has their own distinct styles, Chad LB with his crazy fast lines ending in a high note, or Derek Brown with his beatboxing.
Wow this was an inspiration, I’m 20 years old and I just ordered my first sax and hopefully I become professional like these guys.
Good luck dude- post videos on it!
A good resource if you ever have questions is the saxophonics subreddit
Good luck on the journey man!
Enjoy your course man!
DEREK BROWN! Repping the bari!! Pretty awesome and unexpected!!
Tom Scott!!! Man, I had his albums in the early '80's!! And Gerald Albright....the best.
This is the one great thing that happened because of and during 2020. You are all ROCK STARS!!
Honestly, did anybody not have a huge smile when you saw Gerald Albright throwing down that solo?
Hell yeah Albright was rocking
Yes! ❤🔥✊🏼
pity it needs lockdown to get this to work, let's make it annual event 🎂👍...Great playing by all...
Take a shot every time ‘The Lick’ is played
AHAHA LOL gonna get rowdy real quick with that one
just asking to be wasted in the first minute alone
Oh no im drunk
wow really shows the unoriginality of these musician's musical vocabularies :)
9:07 this is intentionally i think lol
0/10 not enough Bari sax.
Seriously though, this was bloody amazing! I hope you do something like this again.
Second that.
third this😣
Derek Brown kill’t it on bari though
What I found interesting was not who was the best sax player but who really was able to engage with the tracks harmonic direction and really tune into where the crescendos were and land the resolutions with incredible musical mastery. Scott, Albright and Kashiwa.
I don’t really notice it often but it so cool how many different tones you can get out of a sax. This was perfection in every way👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Way to go Jim Cheek! Great solo. A nice little challenge, and thanks to all who took part!
There's nothing like funky sax players cuttin' loose. Man this was awesome. Tom Scott... for real though, a personal hero on sax. Oh, and I see you Gerald... showing them how we did it at Locke High School. "Saint Pride."
Ah amazing work guys 🙌👏 it was a pleasure to make and play on this track with all these legendary sax players for such a great cause. Thanks to Jim and sax co.uk for asking me to be involved!✨
Bravo ! Thanks to all of you musicians. Mindi Abair, I so miss your "Chill" radio show. Also the shows back in early 2000 where I saw you, were very special events to attend. THX! Yuma,AZ.
This is the most normal I’ve ever seen Derek brown play
It was beautiful
Same here, he sounds KILLER on that bari as well, i wonder what horn that is?
SAXMANIVAN if I’m not mistaken Derek Plays on P.Mauriat Horns
@@abedinsubashi the system 76's my man. You're 100% right
@@MARKLINMAN1 it's a P. Mauriat PMB-300DK
It kinda sucks that we wouldn’t met Chad LB, we had this thing at our school called “Jazz night” where we invite a famous artist to play with us and Chad was invited but it was unfortunately canceled because of the virus :/
Joel Frahm was coming to Oklahoma for the first time in AGES and it was cancelled too 😞
Oh dang. I was going to get to go see Wycliffe Gordon at Temple Jazz festival. Also cancelled cause of COVID 😔
As a female alto sax player, I really enjoyed seeing 2 female players in this video. Great job, gals!
There should have been more. There was another really good female sax player that i listen to sometimes - candy Duffer i think her name is. Maybe she was busy during the project. I guess you cant add all the great sax players out there; you'd need 3 cds for one song lol.
@@bcmilatino0116 I really like Dutch sax player Candy Dulfer too.
I would have loved to see Grace Kelly jam on this. I saw her live a while back and she's an incredibly talented musician.
Yay, female sax players! I play tenor. Sometimes the saxophone world seems like a major sausagefest, haha
Yes more females! I’ll play on the next one 🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
Albright and Scott just know I'm getting ready to learn every stinking one of these solos...madness! Pure madness!
Good luck
Everybody's great, over there....
So many nice voices, nice solos, now listening to Jay Metcalf, super too.
Nice voice by many, especially Urbanski
All great|
Nik Carters high notes whistle cleanly into the stratosphere!
Very, very beautiful! Lovely to hear how amazingly different saxophones can sound. Great job, everyone!
Great and wonderful video. The speech at the beginning is really deep and outstanding. The list is perfect and a joy to find Lester, Hank Mobley and Ben Webster my
personal favorites in tenor sax playing.
Omg yes thank you Sax.uk you made this Whole quarantine just completely worth it
I agree, watching the greats doing their thaaaaang.
Thanks for doing this video Jim & team...great trip round the world to showcase some superb talent. Excellent.
This was awesome, especially loved seeing my heroes Tom Scott and Coffin as well as all the UA-cam stars. Metcalf and Tia sounded great and I loved the Brecker licks from Mongerio. Well done. Need to get Marc Russo on this next time :)
Wooooooooow!!!!! Amazing!! I love saxophone in every single way! I'm a sax player too 🎷 bye bye from Italy 🧡😀
Simon and Gerald, Dean and Mindi, all played like I want to. Great idea and superb work Jim!
Well done that guy with the razor blade and sticky tape.
Well done Jim you held your own!
Amazing the different sounds and styles from one instrument.
I have seen and met several of these guys several times and yes, they are all great players.
If you get the chance get to a live performance - guaranteed enjoyment.
Imagine getting all these guys into one room together 😂 or into just a sax only band
supersax reborn
If you weren't smiling though all of that there is something wrong with you. Pure class from start to finish...thank you to everyone....
AMAZING, ...hearing so many different style of playing. Can't say who's my favorite. 10/10
This is fantastic, a lot of my favourite sax payers there, really well done. THis really makes me want to keep playing my saxophones.
Phew! What a tsunami of funky sax! 😂 Really enjoyed it - great effort everyone. It’s a celebration of sax talent and everyone is awesome, but comparisons are inevitable... the solo that gave me greatest pleasure personally was my buddy Nik Carter’s 1:47. Don’t know why, I just loved it. Maybe I’m a sucker for that Jr Walker/Lenny P vibe!! 😂 Loved the rainbow spectrum of back drops, fidelity and mic set ups too! Well done you guys and gals. PS ssshhh! Just between us, I won’t tell, who worked out something bangin’, recorded it accurately, then mimed to camera? 😉
The only problem with this videos is that it ends. Great job!
2023 is a great year for another collab!
Individual with individual differences and clarity in solo
fantastic work Jim ❤️...so good to hear all these guys in one video!
wot no Kenny G???
Seriously, amazing and inspiring!
needs more: girls, sopranos/sopraninos, baris/tubaxes etc
going to play it again now
Thank you everyone. This really brightened up a gloomy day for me!
This is bloody good. Impossible to pick a favourite. Thanks for bringing this to us, team!
What the hell does Mindi do to get that high raspy sound?
Sounds AMAZING.
All great playing. Dean - takes some chasing!
Not sure if I am inspired to jam on or put the horns away forever and just listen! Interesting the many different textures and styles essentially working from the same ingredients.. no 2 anywhere near alike. Thanks you all for your contributions.. can't wait for the next.
Brilliant. Looks like everyone is having a great time.Thanks.
King 👑 GA with his speed, precise articulation, and altissimo. Chad speed monster. Jay of BetterSax smooth as always and created a rhythmic solo. Jim, I enjoyed your improvisation. These are the four saxophonist I'm most familiar with on the list. I enjoyed Dean's solo too. Kudos to everyone.
EPIC!!!! This just made my whole day, month and year! Thank you 😄🎷🎷🎷💛
TIA FULLER YOU CAME TO CAPA AND CHANGED MY LIFE AS A SAXOPHONIST THANK YOU!!!
And the winner is Dean Mongerio💥💥
So many amazing talented people! Very inspiring. Great job Jim for putting all these artists together!👏
So awesome. Fantastic chops. And not a single unnecessary note. Thanks everyone. My lock down finishes in a week. Will add this to my 2 hour bus & train play list. Might loop it.
Very very cool!! Great job. A real gift for all of us.
Wowww. Tremendous. Fantastic!!!!!!
All of you have bring us a ton of relief in the middle of the pandemic and the Amanda Tropical Storm.
Greetings from El Salvador, Central America.
Wow, this was amazing. Thank you everyone for this great concert
I like Deans Tone 💪🏾 and approach! Yesssir
Yoooo, this was fantastic! Gerald Albright collaborating! That was so cool! And to actually see Jody Espina was super nice, love his JJ HR on alto. One of my favorite teachers, Jay Metcalf, BetterSax, man... great teacher and player.. And Chad Lefkowitz, another great teacher and cat (I listen to his teaching too)... So many great players to check out I will from seeing them here, I know about them. Thank you, and thank you saxophonists for the great music you share
Unfortunately us soprano saxophonists underrepresented! Great job everyone, though ! 🎷🎷🎷🎷🔥🔥🔥
Bravo 👏. The saxophone is such a unique instrument. Everyone sounded different. Amazing.
Dean Mongerio totally owns it!
He has an interesting mic set up live.
This is just so cool! I love this! Thank you everyone who put this together.
Everyone's sound was unique and every unique sound was the best!
¡Derek Brown it’s on fire!
Yes! Fantastic playing and great inspiration to hear all these monster players together.
Personally I liked the technicality of Chad's playing and the soulfulness of Gerald's the best. 2 of my favourite players right there.
This was simply brilliant - hopefully, some of my neighbours appreciated it too.
gary1961 🤣
I love all artist. Beautiful sound!
Gerald Albright all the way!!!!!!!
Much great playing and many hot licks, but Jody's was just soooo cool.
Please make more of these collabs.
Great stuff - really enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone involved!
Really enjoyed this. A lot. And very well put together!
Bit sad the drummer did not get a mention. Did not miss a beat, 12 minutes long. Must have been what Maurice Ravel dreamed of, when he composed "piece without music for orchestra and mechanical conductor" (aka bolero)
Wow . . . all that talent . . .and nobody blinked . . . I love all the accessories and other equipment. I need to get practicing - fast:)
Wow guys that was awesome thank you all so much for the wonderful performance! Girls that includes you all wow tasty; Mindi!
What a fantastic collaboration! Thank you so much!
Whoa Gerald Albright Himself. A true legend.
Enjoyed very much hearing all these great sax players taking their own personal interpretations of your funky, hip chart! Thanks for organising it!
dig simon willescroft articulation, loved the Gerald albright lick at 2:53
George Shelby! Wasn't familiar with you before, but wow! Great quotes.
What? - Chad L-b playing a gazillion notes a second?? Who saw that coming?! Great work guys.
It really fits this kind of beat though. He’s literally a modern reincarnation of Brecker and this is the kind of genre Brecker would play 😂
@@nicholasc.1024 Agreed. Don't get me wrong: I love CLB - he's a monster player. I just had to laugh when he came on and started ripping the tune a new hole though.
Mark Lang Absolutely. If you got the technique then use it (as my band director says) 😂😂😂
Good genius idea to put all these players together and amazing job actually achieving it and making it work so well! Nice satisfying effect. Intimidating level of genius talent though! Those guys must be such "practice monsters"!
Amazing experience to have all stars playing together
What an excellent collaboration. Must have been a lot of fun for you guys. Thanks goes to all of you, especially whomever organized this.
How can you improve on perfect. Not sure if I am inspired or going to put my saxes up for sale
Bill...i know right? I used to call myself a saxplayer...but after watching this...i merely impersonate a sax player! Lol
Fantastici saxofonisti...very good!!!
Wonderful! But, where are Eric Marienthal, David Samborn, Nelson Rangel, Bob Mintzer, among others?
I love getting to hear all these styles in one place.
Absolutely awesome! Much talent.Gotta love Mindi's style .
That's a lotta sax... some really fine players, laying it down! Well done! 🎷
That was awesome. Jody, did you seen Jay was playing a DV!!!!
I love that Jeff is still using the Snarky Puppy headphones
Congratulations you all! A great sound!!
