  • Travelling Back In Time// Joerg and I went to Blists Hill last Sunday which is a living museum showing how people during the Victorian Period lived, worked and shopped. It's such a beautiful museum with wonderful people and so well kept. We all tend to romanticise this period but let's face it, hardly anyone of us would have had a real chance in life. Times were hard, let alone no rights for women at all. We love the houses and cottages and a lot of the interior of the time but other than that are quite happy to live now. We hope you like the video, it's always so great to hear from you. Kirsten & Joerg

Everything was so beautifully designed and crafted back in "the good old days"; from the graphic designs on the product containers, the shelves and cupboards, warm floors, cash registers and display cases. This is a wonderful village, a treat for the eyes; thank you for another delightful trip to England!

Whilst I find it a great pleasure to see this wonderful living museum, my eyes are filled with tears as I see our culture and history under massive attack and in consequence rapidly disappearing - undoubtedly forever.
It is all the more incumbent upon you therefore, to keep up your sterling work and I thank you profusely for your effort.

Kirsten and Joerg, what a fascinating day at the Living Museum!! It did seem extremely cold, which was evident to me when the horse strolled by with a saddle blanket. Thank you both so much for taking us places we most likely will never see, were it not for your generosity, graciousness, camera and calming narration. Kirsten, the black hat looked lovely on you, and it never would have occurred to me that it would have been heavy and bulky. Imagine wearing one for long stretches of time! Have a wonderful week, and until we see you next time, I send my great appreciation. Jane Lewis Gendreau, Northern Arizona, USA.

@@maryguise9443 I have just read this article on Yahoo: "Spanking and other forms of corporal punishment are incredibly polarizing practices in the US. In many states, it is still legal for teachers and principals to employ corporal punishment in public schools.
That said, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has made its stance on spanking clear. In an updated policy statement published in 2018, the group advocated for a ban on corporal punishment, as it "increases aggression in young children in the long run and is ineffective in teaching a child responsibility and self-control."
"In fact, new evidence suggests that it may cause harm to the child by affecting normal brain development," the statement added. "Other methods that teach children right from wrong are safer and more effective.""

In the 1990's my daughter went to a Church of England school (for Americans: this is a public school) in Camberwell, London. At an assembly, the headmistress (who was practically from Victorian times since she retired soon after) asked a boy who was not sitting quietly like all the other children, to stand up. When he stood up she barked at him to take his hands out of his pockets. Surely a carryover from Victorian education! She also stood outside the school every morning ringing a huge handbell which indicated that the children needed to line up to get ready to enter the school.

What a magical village... A real time travel. I just adored! And vinegar on «chips» is perfect... (Your little birds dress is lovely... =) ) I hope you had a nice cozy evening by the fire... (We are expecting 40cm of snow in the woods... ) Hugs

It's such a lovely place. Both of us caught a little cold because it was so freezing in the school but we are already a little better (yes, we enjoyed the fire at home so much). Oh my, 40cm of snow is a lot.

What an interesting place, thank you Kirsten and Joerg for taking us along. Love stepping back in time...but I agree, only for a time and just pretending. The class room looked like it was fun, but wow, he did not fool around. So sad about how they treated sick people. Sorry you were so cold...hope you enjoyed your warm fire when you got home.

It's such a great museum Linda, thanks so much for watching. It wasn't too bad, just the wind made it feel a lot colder than it actually was. We loved our fire at home.

It feels like I’m from a past life looking at all that, my mum was born in 1933 she told me all about her upbringing and all the recipes her granny would teach her looking at these little shops and product bottles it’s just a dream, I’ve often dreamed about finding a place like this I wish there was a time machine what year and place would you travel back too 😊

Every video I watch I think, “ this is my favorite” lol! But really, this truly is my favorite! Such a dichotomy- though-nostalgia regarding the slower times, the beautiful stores and merchandise ( I could stay in the store, where you tried on hats, all day!) But awful when contrasted with the almost barbaric ways in school & workplace😕 This video was beautiful done! I always get excited when I see a new one pop up😍 Thank you for sharing- everyone hit the “like” button!

Thank you so much for this! We felt the very same way, the hat shop was lovely (as was the lady in the there) but school and work back then (let alone no rights for women), simply horrible.

What a interesting step back in time. You looked lovely in the bonnet. When I was at school naughty boys were caned. I remember sitting quietly in class aged about six and the teacher walked by and hit me on the knuckles with a ruler. To this day I have no idea what I did. I’m 71 now and I still remember it well. Love your videos TFS.💕

Thanks for taking us on another great trip! So many little treasures to comment on. That black hat looked amazing on you! Loved the schoolmaster! Victorian times were truly hard but everyone has already commented that most of us romanticize the era. I can’t help it! I am obsessed with the past. The pigs were so adorable! I also am now craving chips with salt and vinegar! Thanks for taking the time to do this. You both do such a wonderful job. It’s a real talent. Love to you both! ❤️❤️
