@@Muck006 From my understanding, the comic character didn't have much of a personality and that was why the script was such a mess to begin with, but RDJ showed one in his auditions and that was why he got the part in the end. Another thing people should know is that this movie was not intended to kick off a huge franchise. It was supposed to be a stand-alone flick that would _maybe_ fit into something bigger but could just as well be discarded as irrelevant or non-canon. 3 tips for your MCU journey: 1. Watch it in release order. 2. Watch out for Stan Lee. He got a cameo in every MCU movie. 3. Watch every after credit scene, except of the trailer after Captain America: The First Avenger. It's too much of a spoiler for the first Avenger movie.
Release order is the key. That's how the audiences saw things, and that's how the stories were written, so that's the general rule on how they should be seen. When "Star Wars" came out, it was just a single movie: "Star Wars." It wasn't common to make sequels back then. (A few franchises, like James Bond, Dirty Harry, and Planet of the Apes did have a series of films, but not so much a continuation of the story.) In the 80s, sequels started to happen with Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Alien, and so on, and this really started to catch on because of merchandising and the film industry's development of the summer blockbuster (which happened following "Jaws") and the Christmas blockbuster (which happened following "The Exorcist"). As for Marvel, they have roughly as many features outside of the MCU as in it. I think it's fair to say that all of the MCU films between "Iron Man" and "Avengers: Endgame" are basically one story arc. You can go beyond "Endgame" in the MCU movie series, but "Endgame" is a decent stopping point in the story. As for the movies outside of the MCU, they began with "Blade," "The X-Men," and "Spider-Man," and there's quite a few titles under those three, plus additional films, and then there's the Marvel Netflix series shows that are now on Disney+. The old Netflix Daredevil series could be the best translation of comic book to the screen that we've seen. In general, Marvel has done a terrific job, and has a far bigger and better library than their rival, DC Comics, which unfortunately could never seem to hit their stride, with the exception of the Dark Knight trilogy.

But the after credit scene with Samuel Jackson talking about Avengers came out of nowhere and we all lost our collective minds. Good times, good times.
And when DC was approached and asked essentially "Looks like Marvel is going to build up to a team movie, are you going to do the same?" The answer was no- they had no interest in doing a team movie, and their heroes were so 'big' that they did not need to team up at all. What changed DC's minds? Avengers making over a billion at the box office.
I don’t think enough attention gets paid to the great acting Jeff Bridges put into Obadiah. He’s been a class act since the 1970s, and he always, always delivers. It’s pretty much a rule that every MCU movie has a mid- or post-credits scene, or both. A couple are scenes from upcoming movies, and one’s literally a trailer, but never turn off an MCU movie until you check for them.

So they had a rough idea what they were going for with the MCU. But they had to get to certain milestones first...and so the first 6 films you're going to watch are considered "Phase 1" of the MCU. The idea here was to get to The Avengers film and make an ensemble movie a blockbuster mega hit. You had things like the X-Men films still being made at this point by Fox (which is also Marvel, but Fox owned the X-Men IP at the time), and while they are good movies in their own right, one of the issues they suffered from was it being Hugh Jackman's (who played Wolverine) films and everyone else felt like supporting cast...so with Avengers, the plan was to give you solo films to care about the individual, so when they team up it's not one persons movie...its all of theirs. Phase 2 was like "okay, this was a huge hit, now it's time to set everything up for the crazy stuff to come" then Phase 3 is all guns blazing and it's the culmination of everything you watched before coming to a major climax point (Phase 4, is the start a new story arc). Marvel found a way to do what no other movie studio had ever done before...create a series of 20+ movies that all interconnect within itself and make it one of the most lucrative and wholly successful projects in the history of Hollywood. All the while being able to say these films are actually amazing cinema (regardless of what certain directors might think), and not just guilty pleasures people hate to admit they like watching.

Fun fact: After RDJ and Samuel L. Jackson were cast in these movies, Marvel redesigned the comic book characters to match them. That's why they were a perfect fit.
Slight correction. Nick Fury was modelled after Samuel L. Jackson a few years before he was cast as Nick Fury when Marvel created their Ultimate Universe line of comics, which is the comics line that the MCU was originally based on. Marvel actually contacted Jackson to see if they could use his likeness for the character, and he gave them permission so long as they let him play the character in any movies they may have been planning.
Kevin Feige is the man to thank. He kept the movies on-message and coordinated. Pity he was wasn't in charge of the Star Wars sesquels; we probably would have seen a much better trilogy.
First time to this channel; I compulsively watch MCU reactions and definitely subbing! The MCU is a colossal undertaking of bringing an entire comic universe to life and, if you're into that sort of thing, endlessly entertaining. Some of these are some of my favorite movies, period. It is a journey unlike anything you've seen before, it will blow you away.
I love how much depth you both were able to analyze this movie. It honestly brought me back to the very first time I watched it too! It's a long way to go but knowing what I know now, I'm anxiously waiting for you to watch and react to the rest of the MCU and especially to Endgame. Cheers to you both!
They could never have foreseen just how much this would become, but they were hoping they would get to do an Avengers movie. The deal was that Marvel had licensed out all of their most popular characters to other studios, Spider-man, The Fantastic Four, the X-Men, etc. The Avengers were considered the B-tier heroes and they were concerned they wouldn't be able to have the pull of other heroes. Iron Man was a perfect place to start. He doesn't have super powers and this was all tech based, so it was more digestible by a larger audience. RDJ was a huge risk, but ultimately he was so perfect for this.
This was MARVELS first inhouse production, they where not owned by Disney yet. The movie was a huge gamble on MARVELs side. They did not know if they ever would make a second movie, let alone the huge franchise that came out of it, but they had an incling that this might hit home, so they decided to set it up. If it bombed, it wouldn't matter but if it hits it works to their benefit. I remember vividly watching this movie in the cinema, it was unbeliveable cool, it hit different than other previous super hero movies and I was immediatly hooked. To this day, this is still one of my favorit super hero movies. The soundtrack is phantastic, to this day, 15 years later, whenever I hear the intro to Back in Black (AC/DC) I see the opening scene of this movie in the theatre of my mind, the HUMVEEs coming down the desert road, so iconic.
It was asked if they planned out the whole MCU. No, they didn't. But Marvel has been publishing comics since the mid-20th century, so they had a huge backlog of characters and story arcs to build from. When they plan out a film, one technique is to use a "storyboard", a wall to which they pin sketches and notes for all the scenes. It is used to plan out the filming sequence (which is not the order of the final film), sets that need building, camera positions, etc. A story arc across several issues of a comic is essentially the storyboard draft already laid out for them. Note: once Tony was back home, he didn't need to make all the parts for the second and later suits himself, like he did in the cave. He made the designs, and then his AI assistant Jarvis or he personally sent orders to his company for what he needed. Since he was known to tinker with cars and other tech projects, people at the company didn't know at first what he was working on. After he announced he was Iron Man at the end of the movie, everyone knew what he was building.
It would be difficult - if not impossible - to overstate the reaction the post credit scene got at the original midnight screening (lol miss those, good times). There had been whispers about Samuel L. Jackson possibly appearing, and possibly appearing as Nick Fury (in the Ultimate Marvel comics, they had literally used his likeness for the new version of Nick Fury in that universe). Nobody expected the word "Avengers" to come out of his mouth. Euphoria.
Well guys. First time here and the only thing i will say is: you guys are about to enter to a wonderful journey you'll not regret. Btw i loove how on point you guys are with the details and your notes ect❤ watch them on release order so you dont get spoilers from the post credit scenes. Lets go guys! "You see where you're going? Let's focus on how you get there." Their plan was to make each movie as good as they could, they took out a risky loan to make these movies so they were trying to avoid going bankrupt, and hopefully they could make an Avengers movie. Avengers (2012) completely changed the Cinema landscape, so they were able to plan further ahead after that.
Cali, your reaction when he showed up in the suit and shot off the mini rockets from his shoulders was the same reaction my buddy and I had in theaters back in 08. Our jaws dropped lol.
Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it. The comic heroes of the 1960s appeared in each others' comic books as co-creator and writer Stan Lee wanted them to inhabit a shared universe, which has grown and grown over the years. That's what makes this film journey so rewarding, as you become very emotionally invested in the characters as they are gradually introduced and interact with one another.. Because this film was a success they were able to fulfil the promise of "The Avenger Initiative" teased in the end-credits scene. I hope you enjoy the series. Iron Man to Endgame tells a great story.
The Infinity Saga (Iron Man through Spiderman: Far from Home) is the most impressive accomplishment in film. 23 movies. That might sound like a lot, but by the time it's over, you'll be wanting to see even more (which they are still doing... 32, I think, and counting). None of them are bad, but once you get to movie #9 (Captain America 2), everything thereafter is A++ storytelling, directing, acting, and effects. If you guys decide to watch them all, it will be worth it. I guarantee it.
I love watching your excitement of seeing the Mark 1 and then the Mark 2 Armour. You have an exciting journey ahead of you and I can't wait to watch along with you.
Robert D. Junior absolutely nailed it as Tony Stark in this movie. He was a washed up , drugged out actor and became a world super star actor in this film . He absolutely deserved all the stardom and credit he has from this performance . Great performance by Robert D. Junior , fantastic movie , period !
I really liked Robert Downey Jr.'s Stark/Iron Man's sarcasm. I got a movie reaction suggestion for you guys it's one of my favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
Loved your reaction guys! Thank you for taking such a serious in-depth look into the movie, very professional. I enjoyed your analysis and look forward to your journey through the MCU. The Infinity saga is an incredible journey. You’ll be amazed and have such a wonderfully fun ride.
I am so happy seeing more reactions like this, And at the same time envious, I waited years for the next Marvel movies and now for the first time to watch and react to these movies can just do binge watch them 😅 but I know fo sure yall going to love them movies, Im happy watching yall react 🤗
I seem to remember director Jon Favreau saying that when he saw the scenes involving the suit, he could not tell the difference between the CGI and the actual suit they built (which was quite heavy and they used less of it in subsequent films)
Dummy, the robot, was Stark’s first AI he wrote. Just a mechanical arm to predict what he needs. Very limited and an early basic attempt, but pretty reliable. :-)
When analyzing classic superhero comics and films, one should understand that they all address moral issues, the most important of which is the struggle to be wise and responsible with great power. Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben said it best: “With great power comes great responsibility.” Every MCU film addresses the issue of power and megalomania and personal hubris. The super technology is great, the fight scenes are great, but these films always bring the audience back to the moral issues and dilemmas.
First time watcher of your channel and now new subscriber. If you’re doing the MCU, I’m in. Love the fact you REALLY discuss afterwords. Like an hour of talk after…WOW!!! Let’s get onto the next one.
There been other Marvel characters with thier own movies done but it never got the wheel moving.. Like 98 "Blade", 03 "Daredevil", 03 "Hulk" and others.. I think it was the next gen that made it popular with comic con getting bigger and bigger every year.
Thanks to Stan Lee, there is nearly 40yrs of base line content. (first Ironman Comic came out in 1963). They new the main storyline arc. The movies don't follow the comics exactly of course. But those who wrote these movies had an overlaying story already told in the comics.
I love that Tony has a personality - and an entertaining one at that - outside of his suit. For heroes like Batman and Superman, they don't have much personality outside their heroic alter egos, and the personality they do have is pretty much "orphan". Tony is also an orphan, and a superhero, but those things are not his identity.
Without exaggeration, you two are the perfect coloured Iron Man bookends; he starts out as grey as you saw, and then goes to the trademark gold and red. Also, if you continue with Hulk, Brazil does play a part, so... yer off to a great start.
I’m SO unbelievably proud of you for looking up Samuel Jackson’s character name!!! SO many reactors keep acting like they don’t have a phone/computer and say, “let us/me know the answer to my question in the comments.”😅
the weapon at the start that made all the bullet holes all at once is an anti-personnel mine called a M18A1 Claymore. its basically a shaped charge of plastic explosive sitting behind 702 ball bearings. the weapon can be aimed and fired in either a booby trap or command detonation configurations. its very effective weapon.
So Tony told Rhodey he was in the suit, but Rhodey never relayed that information to anyone else, which is why they were still going after Tony and why they were happy that the chute opened. They don't know there's a guy in there that helped him.
I would love for you guys to react to the sherlock holmes movies with RDJ. Me and a huge number of other people think that's another role that perfectly fits his personality, and the movies are really underrated tbh. (The second movie is actually better than the first one).
Bruce Wayne said it best in The Dark Night Rises. He told the cop named Robin that the mask isn’t for him the mask and protecting his identity is for his loved ones to keep them safe. That’s a problem when you give away your identity, it’s basically impossible to believe that no villain gets them when they are at home chilling or in Iron Man’s case Tony stark jogging daily in Central Park.
I've seen this movie multiple times and I never noticed that Pepper was leaving her hair down for Tony. I guess only a woman would notice a detail like that. Good job on the reaction. Subbed!
Welcome to the MCU! Enjoy the ride! (Stay for the end credits in every film.) In the original comic, Tony escapes a Vietnamese POW camp. The Mark I armor essentially looks like it does in the film.
As a kid growing up one of my favorite comicbooks was Iron Man. The "Batman of Marvel Comics". But Tony Stark was fun than Bruce Wayne. 😂 *I'm also a big fan of Batman. "Demon in a Bottle" comic remains one of my all-time favorites. Marvel Comics dealt with adult issues. "Alcoholism". Robert Downey Jr. was perfect casting to portray Tony Stark. Iron Man started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“He made it in a cave!?” All of us at home “WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!”
🤣
Like five times lol
tony scraps was able to build this in a box! with a cave of starks!
"In a CAAAAVE....with a BOX of SCRAAAAAPS!"
I’d love to see Tony Stark versus Rick Sanchez, stranded on a desert planet, and left completely to their own devices with no tech
This character fitted RDJ’s personality so well. It was a seamless transition
I'm not a marvel fanboy in any capacity but I still think that's one of the best casting decisions ever made

I remember back then I was excited to go the movies to watch iron man it’s was the first MCU.🔥🔥
I love how much depth you both were able to analyze this movie. It honestly brought me back to the very first time I watched it too! It's a long way to go but knowing what I know now, I'm anxiously waiting for you to watch and react to the rest of the MCU and especially to Endgame. Cheers to you both!
My new favorite reaction channel. Glad to find you on accident the moment you start the marvel journey!
Lol me too xD
The algorithms duin their best😅 and this guys doesn't disappoint at all with their reactions. I just hope they watch em at least one per week
welp. You guys are in for the JOURNEY! We are here for it haha
Yesss. Diving into the MCU!! This is great. And yea, you’ll definitely need to see these movies in order of the release dates.
Euphoria.
The best cinematic universe MCU🎉, Iron Man is my favourite ❤
Well guys. First time here and the only thing i will say is: you guys are about to enter to a wonderful journey you'll not regret. Btw i loove how on point you guys are with the details and your notes ect❤ watch them on release order so you dont get spoilers from the post credit scenes. Lets go guys! Im so glad you guys like it, This is the MCU genesis! Grettings from Puerto Rico🇵🇷
"You see where you're going? Let's focus on how you get there."
Their plan was to make each movie as good as they could, they took out a risky loan to make these movies so they were trying to avoid going bankrupt, and hopefully they could make an Avengers movie.
Pls continue with Marvel you will love them atleast till phase 3
"Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again" :)
I guarantee it.
did she just tell phil to shut up?! lol she had no idea who he is he is Agent Coulson of SHIELD 😆
Bro this MCU journey gonna go so hard
OH MY GOD, if you`re gonna watch all universe, you`ll be flabbergasted!! Thanks for the reaction
Finally. They should have known, everyone in the React space has reacted to these
I love watching your excitement of seeing the Mark 1 and then the Mark 2 Armour.
Imagine watching this in theaters back in 2008 and watching the end credits for the first time, must have been amazing
I am so happy seeing more reactions like this, And at the same time envious, I waited years for the next Marvel movies and now for the first time to watch and react to these movies can just do binge watch them 😅 but I know fo sure yall going to love them movies, Im happy watching yall react 🤗
"I'm here to talk to you about the avenger initiative"
That should tell you that they had all of it planned out. Or at least wanted to.
I seem to remember director Jon Favreau saying that when he saw the scenes involving the suit, he could not tell the difference between the CGI and the actual suit they built (which was quite heavy and they used less of it in subsequent films)
Just want to add that when he saw transformers he knew cgi had come far enough where it wasn't going to be so obvious.
I love all the technology Tony Stark used. Especially when it came to creating his suits.
I think it's like the Library. Late fees are usually caped at replacement value. It's a "You break it, You Bought it" mentality.
Dummy, the robot, was Stark’s first AI he wrote. Just a mechanical arm to predict what he needs. Very limited and an early basic attempt, but pretty reliable. :-)
Great reaction. I always like your thoughts and discussion after the film. 😊 Welcome to the MCU. Looking forward to seeing you dive into it.
I remember seeing this in theaters. It really changed the game, especially the ending. Y’all gonna do the whole MCU or what?
There been other Marvel characters with thier own movies done but it never got the wheel moving.. Like 98 "Blade", 03 "Daredevil", 03 "Hulk" and others.. I think it was the next gen that made it popular with comic con getting bigger and bigger every year.
Thanks to Stan Lee, there is nearly 40yrs of base line content. (first Ironman Comic came out in 1963). They new the main storyline arc. The movies don't follow the comics exactly of course. But those who wrote these movies had an overlaying story already told in the comics.
That thing is HUGE 😅 thats what She said 🤣🤣😂😂🤣
Excellent analysis and review from the both of you. Your questions will be answered in future movies. Gabriella is a keeper. Subscribed.
Can’t wait to see all your reactions to the marvel movies been waiting for this from you guys
the last movie I saw in movie theaters...lol
Without exaggeration, you two are the perfect coloured Iron Man bookends; he starts out as grey as you saw, and then goes to the trademark gold and red. Also, if you continue with Hulk, Brazil does play a part, so... yer off to a great start.
"Next time!"
I wanted to see him get into the suit and then wonder why it doesn't work with out the power supply
As others have said already, watch them in release order from this point on.
Wowww welcome to MCU😊😊😊 please continue
I’m SO unbelievably proud of you for looking up Samuel Jackson’s character name!!! SO many reactors keep acting like they don’t have a phone/computer and say, “let us/me know the answer to my question in the comments.”😅
Fun fact the body guard for Tony was actually the director
He was working with Hydra.
the weapon at the start that made all the bullet holes all at once is an anti-personnel mine called a M18A1 Claymore. its basically a shaped charge of plastic explosive sitting behind 702 ball bearings. the weapon can be aimed and fired in either a booby trap or command detonation configurations. its very effective weapon.
Great reaction! It is very interesting to see your reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is a cool movie 👍🔥🦾
Iron Man has the best arc of the MCU to date. Absolutely wonderfully done.
Other arcs to really look forward to are Loki's and Wanda's.
I wish I got amnesia to experience the Infinity Saga all over again for the first time. You're in for an amazing ride! 🙌
They did have a big plan since the beginning, but a lot changed as they went along, so both.
I like that you gave background on how you didn't see it. Alot of the time we just can understand how people don't see these movies
I've seen this movie multiple times and I never noticed that Pepper was leaving her hair down for Tony. I guess only a woman would notice a detail like that. Good job on the reaction. Subbed!
Welcome to the MCU! Enjoy the ride!
(Stay for the end credits in every film.)
In the original comic, Tony escapes a Vietnamese POW camp. The Mark I armor essentially looks like it does in the film.
Welcome to a hell of a journey!
Audi R8 V10 is STILL my dream car
Beeettt I loved watching y’all. please continue the movies they are great to watch and it was awesome to see y’all’s reactions.
“Grey iron man colors”
Yes his prototype!!
As a kid growing up one of my favorite comicbooks was Iron Man. The "Batman of Marvel Comics". But Tony Stark was fun than Bruce Wayne. 😂
*I'm also a big fan of Batman.
"Demon in a Bottle" comic remains one of my all-time favorites. Marvel Comics dealt with adult issues. "Alcoholism".
Robert Downey Jr. was perfect casting to portray Tony Stark.
Iron Man started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If you're watching it, thank you, and please watch it in release order.
"I AM IRON MAN". 😮
