    The YC88, YC73, and YC61 series of keyboards are incredible when it comes to layering sounds and automatically mixing in additional sounds via your PC or iPad. It does all of this without the need for additional MIDI or external sound modules. Check out how my live onstage YC88 rig has changed as a result.

    I appreciate all of your YC videos. I purchased the YC61 and I’ve had some success with creating full pads with and without organ layered in. I’ve been very disappointed by the thin sounding pianos. They always seemed so full on all the YT videos, but I can’t seem to recreate that effect in my home studio or when I’m playing live. I’d appreciate anyone chiming in.

      The new EQ options in the latest Firmware 1.30 and the Master EQ are great for tailoring a piano to your own personal taste.

    Love all the details in this video, and how it reinforces just how powerful the YC can be (and I love the YC61 that I have). Surely you have seen that Yamaha has released the more budget friendly CK series of stage keyboards; I’m curious about your thoughts on that line and whether you have had a chance to compare the two. Price aside, I wonder if it dilutes the sales of the YCs if the CKs retain many of the best features of the YCs; if so, what edge-aside from build quality-would the YCs keep?

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  11 місяців тому +2

      That might be true if the CK series included the YC series organ engine with the more advanced Leslie emulations but the CK definitely cuts some corners to meet that price point. A great board however and pretty light weight as well.

    Super useful content sir. I'm about to start a stand-alone piano/voice setup with a YC88.
    I have a Mackie thump speaker and a Shure super 55 mic. How could I get my voice running with that setup? At home I usually rehearse with a Yamaha Clavinova CVP 505 which has its own voice EQ, reverb etc, which is enough to make vocals sound good. But for the live setting what should I get to get my vocal to have reverb, EQ and whatever I may need?
    I do also have a boss mk505 loop station which includes voice effect. Maybe I could add it into the equation?
    Thank you so much in advance.

      You will probably need to add a mixer to your setup if you want to incorporate your both keyboard and your voice together live and have independent control over each. Preferably a mixer with at least a 3 band EQ section so you can treat your vocal separately from the YC88 and If it has built in reverb, all the better.

    for your on stage rack, do you have a rack mount case on top of the stand? or do you just use the stand it self?
    I am thinking about putting together a rack with 2 or 3 sound modgules.

  • @michaeldavis5106

    What kind of stands do you use with your personal monitor speakers? I have been thinking about geting some bigger speakers to use as monitors with my band. I want to upgrade from 6 inch to 8 inch speakers, and I am looking for stands that fold up, and have a small footprint.
    any advice or product recommendations you have would be appreciated.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  9 місяців тому +1

      My live sound personal monitors sit on the floor at and angle so no stands needed, but many of the 8inch style speakers do have pole mounts built into them for stands.

  • @TimHeizer

    So does your keys L and R and your mic go to the line mixer first and then you are going from the SM10 L and R outs to the EQ input 1 and 2 and then out to your floor monitors? You showed connecting from the exf send out to your DI and then to your floor monitor for your vocal, right? Little bit confused

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  5 місяців тому +1

      Correct, to get it all to fit inside 2 spaces, the keys output left and right + the Mic goes into the Line mixer.
      Left + Right out of the Line mixer into the stereo EQ and then directly into my onstage Left and right powered stage monitors. Works great for most live gigs large and small. Ideally, it would be great to have a separate EQ for the vocal channel before the mixer but that's a bigger rig.

    Excellent sharing!
    Since you are touring from time to time with your YC88, could you tell us your choice of YC88 protective case and the reason behind? I am considering buying the Yamaha Soft Case (SC-YC88) due to its lightweight. But a flight case or a 88-key gator case could be the choice as well.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  11 місяців тому +2

      I have the Gator case but its actually the 76 note one as the YC88 fits in perfectly and the case is more compact than the 88 note case.

      @@FeatherlightstudioThank you very much for your valuable reply! But wanna ask one more thing: can you also put the sustain pedal, wires and even the music stand (YMR-04) into the case? Or they have to be transported separately?

    I have just received today my brand new YC88. Sadly, I feel so disappointed.
    I have a Yamaha Clavinova CVP 505 at home, which is 14-15 years old approx, and the YC was bought to use as a gigging keyboard with the best touch possible and, I was expecting, piano sounds as good as my old Yamaha at least. However, after been testing out today my YC, the CFX piano sound, or any other natural piano, doesn't sound even close to how good CVP sounds.
    I am not sure whether I am doing something wrong or if I've been given a wrong yamaha whatsoever. The piano sound is not as rich and full as CVP. In the CVP, each single note, in any octave, sounds full, round, with resonance. In the YC, yes, sometimes the bass sounds punchy and you can hear the resonance of strings and damper, but the sound is not as consistent as the one provided by the CVP. Then, when using dynamics, once again, the difference seems to be atrocious.
    I have tried to test the YC plugged with 1 single speaker, with headphones, lined up to the Clavinova in order to use the same speakers of the Clavinova as well. No matter which choice of speakers I do, the difference is still there.
    I am not sure what to do now. I feel kind of abashed after spending nearly 3K$ and not having a sense of satisfaction at all.
    Could you please give me some hint or recommendation kind sir?
    Thank you so much in advance.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  Місяць тому

      this is difficult to answer as no one knows the kind of piano sound you are after better than you. However, if anything about any of the newer Yamaha keyboard/synth models sound atrocious to you, its likely you are definitely not in the 'stage keyboard' market of any kind.
      Even the CP line has very similar pianos and that its widely considered to be some of the best live pianos available short of specialized software synths.
      If the piano is the paramount concern, I would looking at a dedicated stage piano ( CP88, Nord Stage, Korg Grandstage, Kawai, ect) rather than an all around stage workhorse like the YC88.

    • @JKelza
      @JKelza Місяць тому

      @@Featherlightstudio First thing first, thanks for your answer.
      Are the sound samples of CP88 better than those of the YC88? I thought it was the same sounds for piano.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  Місяць тому

      @@JKelza The YC has many of the same pianos but, the CP series has more piano models and variations than the YC memory can hold since the YC is trying to cover a lot more ground.
      I was in the same position you are about 2 1/2 years ago and honestly, trying to decide online was nearly impossible, too many options. It wasn't until I planned a trip to a larger music store that had several models and played everything side by side that I was able to make a decision that was right for me.
