    Dealing with age is simple.
In your 20's, you think, "wow, I'm old!"
In your 30's, you think, "I thought I was old at 20, I'm old!"
In your 40's, you say, "wow, I'm aging!"
In your 50's, 60's, and 70's you think, "wow, now I'm old!"
Then a 90 year old reminds you that you STILL have a ways to go!
My point being, if you spend your whole life thinking you're old, then you'll be old your whole life.

life certainly has a way of humbling us. I am not (that) old (just 48) and last year Covid very very nearly killed me (technically it still might given the carnage it wrought on me) but after a year and some months putting my body and health back together (as much as possible) I have a new perspective. Wealth, material is all bullshit. ALL that matters is the true wealth in this life . And thats love, friends, family , health and beauty. Everyone reading this will likely be dead within 50-60 years at the most. Those of us "of a certain age" know thats just moments. If you are young enough to think a handfull of decades is actually a long time...IT ISNT. Look after you body, take care of your mind, look after your fellow humans. Its just us against an uncaring cosmos.

I'm 63, and I think quite a bit differently from the way I did in earlier years. I was on-the-go until I retired, but no matter where I was, part of my thoughts were devoted to the next place where I had to go, or to something else entirely. I was rarely completely in the moment. Now, I try to enjoy the moment I'm in. Admittedly, it is easier since I don't have to cope with a daunting schedule of one sort or another.

The interesting thing about getting older, is the things that you have learned from all the mistakes you made in the past. Another reason why I like the Highlander over the years that he lived he learned so much and became a much better person. I'm 65 and I have learned so much and I have so many regrets. A theme and many of the episode was about the regrets and the guilt that you carry with you. And it's so true. We really should live to be at least 400 years old because by then we have learned enough to be a good person. And yes at 65 years old I consider myself a good person now I've learned a lot and I could do a lot of good for a lot of people with what I know. Too bad I didn't know this stuff when I was 20. At 65 I don't have that many years left and I feel we've been cheated I honestly think people should live to be 400 years old. On the other hand though there are people that are evil and I don't think they would give a damn about learning anyting and if you give them 400 years could you imagine how much evil they could do.

    • @ryanb7186
      @ryanb7186 2 роки тому +6

Just do the best you can with the time you have left. Someone who is 20 years old could die tomorrow and you could live another 30 years. You just never know. Even 10 years is enough time to do a lot of good if you are determined to do so.

I pretty much gave up all my time in my life for school and my career. I have little time for anything else. At this point, I really cannot make any changes. If I can hold fast for about a year and a half, I am taking early retirement. I have worked so hard and so much in my life, that I'm ready to walk away to enjoy what is left of my life. I know what you mean when you realize you worked so hard for so long, that you feel like you lost a lot of time. I don't remember much of the 90s. I worked 3 jobs at the same time and attended the university. Actually I always had 2 or more jobs at the same time from the 80s through 2000. I never slept. Stayed up late nights studying and watching Highlander & Forever Knight. In 2000 I got an internship requiring much more training time, and finally I was forced to quit working a 2nd job for the first time in my life. Now I'm older and I realize I gave up way too much in my life for my career, and I'm not sure I can do much about it now.

I worked so hard as a single Mother. I’d left the safety of my husband’s job, moved my 10 yr old son to New Mexico where we knew no one. I was working at least 60+hrs a week, plus took a job cleaning houses on the weekend. I look back, from age 69, and absolutely know that much of that time w/my son was wasted. We had quality time, but it was short. Yet, I needed to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table. We lived frugally, even with all the work. Now, I can never get that time back… yet, having 2 beautiful granddaughters has given me the chance to smell the 🌹 🌹 with them. And, doing so allows me even more time with my son. He turned out wonderful and is an amazing Father and Husband.. in spite of me. We just do what we can.. when we can.

A wise man once told me (Dad) that to be happy and live a full life you need to live in preparation for your death. In other words, live, experience, fail, triumph, and be grateful for every day. Sure I wish I were 30 again and know what I know now. But that’s not how it works. The sweetness is in knowing it will end…

In other words it doesn't matter what free perks you have or how much money you make if you never have time to use any of it.

Very well said. I've been thinking a lot lately how I was a workaholic in my late 30s with a full time day job and a thriving home business. I made lots of money but was working non stop 7 days a week and was having no success dating. When I shared my lack of romantic success with a female acquaintance one day she gave me an incredible gift - honesty. She said flat out - you're a decent looking guy and hard working yes, but very few women would want to be with someone who worked non-stop. That was a turning point for me when I realized if I wanted companionship and to get married one day then I had to create the space for in my life. I shut down my business and started pursuing new hobbies and interests and after that dating became much easier and I was a much happier person for it. And after a few bumps in the road, I met my future wife and never looked back.

There can be only one, and I guess Duncan was the last one, his reward for being the last one with head still attached is given that special reward which is to be able to grow old and pass away like all the other humans. This would explain why Duncan aka Adraian isn't as young as he was anymore and is talking about your typical human old man kinda things lol. The reward for being the last standing Highlander is given the ability to age. For any immortal to be able to age and die is the best gift any immortal can have.

Adrian is not getting older! He looks amazing as he purportedly "ages."
I had the pleasure of meeting him in person during a sword experience class (I took my mom, too, since she was a big fan and the reason I started watching the series as a little girl under 4yo) and I had the audacity to tell him he was one of my two first crushes from that age (the other being Macgyver 😉) and asked if I could give him a kiss on the cheek 😂
He kindly abliged but I bet I embarrassed him a little putting him on the spot, I'm sure he gets that from almost every female fan. I was so thrilled to actually meet him, though, and have him teach me sword fighting! I would love to take another class if I could! ❤

I agree life is not all about work but, u do need to stop and smell the roses so to speak. Life is like the little things spending time friends and family like the old credit card commercials used to say.

When I was a child growing into a kid and into my early teens, I was always the matured one out of my 2 older siblings. My parents did not worry about me regarding my normal childhood, mistakes that happen that was set before me were not my fault.
Around the areas of ages time I previously mentioned, my mind was 20 years of ahead of time, up until I turned 40 and caught with myself.
I do not care about telling my true age in a heart beat {57}, because
! IT IS WHAT IT IS !
I know in my ❤ HEART I have nothing to regret or feel sorry about. Truly and honestly it is NEVER MY FAULT.
Getting older do not bother me as long as I can keep my good health, I know I do somethings I should not do but that is on my own calculations, that I can and should change when I am ready.
A lot of things did not turn out the way I wanted it to be \ happen, because I AM NOT SETTLING FOR NOTHING.
In the eyes of the public, you call me to BUSHY, to me, I would intake the matter for its entirety and collaborate the whole accounts coming at me, just watching out for the down fall ahead time.
I AM GOING TO HAVE TO SAY .
    👎"NO"
    AND MOST OF ALL
    ! 👋GOOD | BYE 👋!
Theirs is a popular phrase ........
    >>>> { IF I KNEW WHAT
    \
    I KNOW NOW }

I love your take on getting older. Now that I’m retired and getting older, I’m finding myself a lot more contemplative about life in general. Though impossible of course, it would be interesting to go back and live my life over again with the knowledge I’ve gained. It would be so different.

Good message. I loved the Highlander TV series when I was growing up. I kind of wish they would do a reboot, but I'm not sure if I would trust them not to screw it up.

Thoughts on getting older, from a guy who's aged maybe 10 years at best in the last 30 :) But yes, wise words well put.
