Yup, even getting through Titan Hard Mode right at launch was a massive barrier for people trying to get their relic weapons. Having 8 people without any latency issues especially on the DF was a nightmare, even moreso when you're playing from Europe and the Data Center is in CANADA?!
Not even close. It just took some good memory skills to remember what was going to happen before it happens. Everything has a set rotation in this fight. I literally just wrote it all down and remembered it. Just have to start moving early. :P

Exactly what was going through my mind today as I was doing this trial for the first time. It threw me off so hard because I was used to just relax, stand back and heal/stone in previous dungeons or Ifrit. Then Titan CANONBALLS INTO THE GROUND and absolutely dismantles my HP bar. It was my first time getting oneshot in this game lmao, I was like what the fuck happened. Thankfully I got the hang of it soon after (thanks to my party) but dude, I was legit sweating doing this one. It never happened to me in XIV dungeons or in the Ifrit trial, I used to just autopilot cause there was nothing to think about really. But in this one, boy you have to.

Coming to this nine years later, my FC heard me reach Titan for the first time during MSQ and the Metroid fan in me got so giddy. "WAIT IS THIS METROID MUSIC?!"
tfw you accidentally queue for Random Trial as healer and click "ready" but it's Titan (Hard) and it's your first time healing and you just press all the panick button
1 year late ... but i did during my FFXIV time have such moment ... but not as a healer ... i was playing DK .... and first time tanking with it rough beginning but the party was awesome and we did ace it ... on second try ... rough beginning was Phase 5 ... on the "TITAAAAAAANNNN" shout it was the moment i decided to get caught and thrown off the edge ... "BOW DOWN OVERDWELLER!"
I wiped 3 times as a first time healer for this fight because everyone was spread out and I couldn't do medica or anything. Finally got everyone to be near me before an AoE, popped a medica and we all survived
I wiped 3 or 4 times today. It was my first time doing this trial (WHM btw) and I felt a bit desperate after the 3rd wipe (didn't know the mechanics and got once pushed off the platform and felt really stupid for it) but my party was so much helpful and patient so we sticked together until we finally beat the boss despite failing several times. Ngl It felt so satisfying, I also absolutely love the community in FF XIV. You guys are the best.
Really love the drowned sounds and reverb on the final phase. Really ads to the underground vibe. Almost sounds like a bunch of cultists screaming a ritual.
Not gonna lie, this is one of my favorite bosses so far. I just beat him in the main story quest yesterday. The themes had me feeling so hyped throughout, fucking awesome xD

My first noobie Titan run as an adorable Lalafell healer I had to dig the shit out of my pants during Final Phase. I think it was near the point where I was resurrecting our fallen DPS when I was laser-beamed off the stage into oblivion to the sound of screaming Kobolds.
Shipoopiism I came into this fight as an optimistic Warrior, having just beat the extreme Garuda and finding her pretty darned easy. I'd heard stories of titan, but chose to ignore them, thinking I was in for a similar ride as with Garuda. Alas, two months later, I've yet to beat him. My poor Warrior's butt is more or less demolished at this point, nevermind sore.
kalmahcarl it took me 2 days of practice to beat Titan EX, and once I got a PUG (a pug of all things!) which didn't suck and knew the fight, we were golden. beat him and immediately signed up to go again. :) and no, I wassn't "Carried" I knew the fight at that point and survived to the end as primary DPS.
He was so much harder two years ago and before echo. When we were all in darklight gear or less, having to add a phase by auto-attacking..just so we'd build a limit break for the heart phase. Ugh... Took me over a month of pugs. Had to do pugs cause the game was new and not all of my friend were up to this point yet. Crazh easy now!

Such a great boss, this is when I fell in love with ARR. The music is epic and fits so well, I dont normally like this sort of music very much, but this is perfect, this is TITAN. Heartless is by far my favourite music thoughout of all the phases, but they work so well as a package
Just beat it for the first time in extreme yesterday as an scholar, and we wipe like 10 time at least, but it was fun the whole time because we continued improving each time and the veteran players were willing to explain the mechanincs to us sprouts, it took a while but it was worth it.

Had many great moments in FFXIV. Unfortunately social anxiety made me stop playing once stuff got more difficult...if I ever start again it most likely won't be as healer even though I enjoyed the heck out of it - maybe bard. Healer's just too much pressure & responsibility for me lol
Ha, in many ways I'm the same. I started as WHM and stopped playing for months when I realised that I had to do this fight (well, the easy version) to progress the story. I didn't know much about it, but I did know that being in Australia with our high ping, and being a slow, doddery old man, I'd really struggle to avoid the AoE. Eventually I plucked up the courage and gave it a go. I died, naturally, but we won because this was literally years after 2.0 and everyone else had done the fight a billion times. I kept playing for a while, but eventually I just didn't like being a healer, like you say, it's too much pressure and responsibility at times. So about halfway through Heavensward I quit for another couple of years. Then, about 2 months back, with the advent of 5.3 and hearing about how it was easier to level now, I re-subscribed and created a new character, a bard, as it happens. And now I'm completely addicted. I've already made it up to Stormblood, much further than I made it in nearly 10 years of sporadic playing before, and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun. So, yeah, I strongly recommend picking it up again!
I started as a thaumaturge and it took me a very long time to pluck up the courage to heal or tank. Luckily it's quite rare to find people who aren't chill and understanding (from my experience at least) so I was able to safely learn how to properly do both and now only have slight apprehension when tanking something I don't know.

Buffoon1980 It makes me wonder just how integrated the English localization team is with creative dev for this game. The dialogue in this game has a distinctive, sort of archaic lyricism, and the words to this song definitely carry that same tone. While the actual story in this game, as with most video games, is as campy as it gets, the amount of attention paid to the writing itself is really, really impressive.
Mazed927 At least according to people who say they've read the Japanese dialogue, a lot of the flavor in the English dialogue is added by the localization team, including a lot of the humor and the occasional.... ribald references. I like the idea every time the Kobolds summon Titan this theme starts playing and they just rave for hours keeping up the Maelstrom in the middle of the night.
It never really gets old. It's simple, but satisfying, like a good burger. Whenever I get bored I'll hop on a random healer and queue just to watch people get hurled off the edge.
First time we went up against him our healer got knocked off within the first few seconds of that being possible. Needless to say, it all went downhill from there.
+Odiekun I am not sure but I mean it plays only at difficulty HARD. This phase is very short, 'cause Titan gets so much damage, that you don't realize this phase. ;)
I remember the first time I fought against him. The Music, the style, the art..that is totally a part of me and I had such a big grin on my lips, just wanted to shout "Show me what you've got!" This fight really triggers me so damn hard. After all those Boss fights, nothing came close this kind of feeling again. And just listening to that guitar riff at the start, makes want to reactivate my account xD Just one more time..
I discovered this video while searching for the final phase. I thought the beginning was one song and then the final phase is its own song. I didn't know it had FIVE bloody phases!
This song is amazing, anyone who's ever fought Titan can listen to this game and just go back and experience the emotions again without even starting up the game. Also, that battle could have been won if the off-tank had been in Sword Oath.
Sometimes, it's refreshing to watch vids where the boss wins, and it seems to be pretty common with these primal fights. I haven't played this game yet, but plan on getting into it, so I study these things like crazy.
Favorite boss theme in the entire series, hands down. ARR has such a fantastic soundtrack. Soken-sama, I bow down to you and your Rage Against the Machine t-shirt.
Gotta say i love the soundtrack you could tell they were having fun with it everything could've easily been more orchestral since its fantasy and all but they used grundge hard metal and it sounds damn good.

my friend fought titan hard for the first time the other day. it was a experience. i have never fallen off so many times, and they died multiple times - including an honorary "i literally JUST revived you! how'd you die again?!" i main scholar...
I loved this fight personally. It was brutal but never unfair. My favorite memory is probably when our Dragoon accidentally backfliped off the platform.
As a white mage, this fight from phase 1-4 is like "Oh this is pish wash boring" But then the 5th phase really be having you running around like a headless chicken, doing 5 different things at once cuz your team would start to drop like flies 😂

Yenrz1345 It was pretty damn hard. If you got his by 2 AoE's you died. Pug groups got absolutely destroyed by him 95% of the time. lol

As much as I adore the kobolds of Final Fantasy, I empathize with that unending, UNYIELDING loathing for their god.
It was kind of nice to see that party wipe after all that laughing that one white mage did towards the monk; there was really no need for that.
The Heart Phase music reminds me of a metroid prime theme of some sort but this fight is actually really enjoyable.
Even this stage looks like one of the _SSB Metroid_ stages.

Eventually I plucked up the courage and gave it a go. I died, naturally, but we won because this was literally years after 2.0 and everyone else had done the fight a billion times. I kept playing for a while, but eventually I just didn't like being a healer, like you say, it's too much pressure and responsibility at times. So about halfway through Heavensward I quit for another couple of years.
Then, about 2 months back, with the advent of 5.3 and hearing about how it was easier to level now, I re-subscribed and created a new character, a bard, as it happens. And now I'm completely addicted. I've already made it up to Stormblood, much further than I made it in nearly 10 years of sporadic playing before, and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun.
So, yeah, I strongly recommend picking it up again!
I started as a thaumaturge and it took me a very long time to pluck up the courage to heal or tank. Luckily it's quite rare to find people who aren't chill and understanding (from my experience at least) so I was able to safely learn how to properly do both and now only have slight apprehension when tanking something I don't know.

It makes me wonder just how integrated the English localization team is with creative dev for this game. The dialogue in this game has a distinctive, sort of archaic lyricism, and the words to this song definitely carry that same tone.
While the actual story in this game, as with most video games, is as campy as it gets, the amount of attention paid to the writing itself is really, really impressive.
Mazed927 At least according to people who say they've read the Japanese dialogue, a lot of the flavor in the English dialogue is added by the localization team, including a lot of the humor and the occasional.... ribald references.
Also, Fernhalwes gave an interview at E3 and apparently he worked directly with Nobuo Uematsu to write the lyrics for Answers, and he's also responsible for this song's lyrics.

I like the idea every time the Kobolds summon Titan this theme starts playing and they just rave for hours keeping up the Maelstrom in the middle of the night.
By just his theme, titan quickly became my favorite of the primals
When I feel crushed under the weight, this song helps me drum up enough energy to rock again
Even just a whisper of the song has weight behind it.

It never really gets old. It's simple, but satisfying, like a good burger. Whenever I get bored I'll hop on a random healer and queue just to watch people get hurled off the edge.

Titan may be the definition of pain (trying to clear the extreme encounter) but damn it I love this theme. So damn groovy during the final phase

First time we went up against him our healer got knocked off within the first few seconds of that being possible. Needless to say, it all went downhill from there.

I don't remember that part being played. Is it only in one of the later Titan fights? I've only fought him normally through the story.
+Odiekun I am not sure but I mean it plays only at difficulty HARD. This phase is very short, 'cause Titan gets so much damage, that you don't realize this phase. ;)

this boss theme reminds me of two things:
one- getting pumped up and feeling like a badass
two- GODDAMMT I FELL OFF THE STAGE AGAIN
I remember the first time I fought against him. The Music, the style, the art..that is totally a part of me and I had such a big grin on my lips, just wanted to shout "Show me what you've got!" This fight really triggers me so damn hard. After all those Boss fights, nothing came close this kind of feeling again. And just listening to that guitar riff at the start, makes want to reactivate my account xD Just one more time..

Nowadays the fight goes so quickly that you barely even get to hear Phase 1's theme.
I discovered this video while searching for the final phase.
I thought the beginning was one song and then the final phase is its own song. I didn't know it had FIVE bloody phases!

god, these drums. probably nothing special, but it slaps so hard....
This song is amazing, anyone who's ever fought Titan can listen to this game and just go back and experience the emotions again without even starting up the game. Also, that battle could have been won if the off-tank had been in Sword Oath.
Sometimes, it's refreshing to watch vids where the boss wins, and it seems to be pretty common with these primal fights. I haven't played this game yet, but plan on getting into it, so I study these things like crazy.

Gotta say i love the soundtrack you could tell they were having fun with it everything could've easily been more orchestral since its fantasy and all but they used grundge hard metal and it sounds damn good.

my friend fought titan hard for the first time the other day. it was a experience. i have never fallen off so many times, and they died multiple times - including an honorary "i literally JUST revived you! how'd you die again?!"

I remember when this fight was actually a challenge.
I loved this fight personally. It was brutal but never unfair. My favorite memory is probably when our Dragoon accidentally backfliped off the platform.
Except for the fact that latency was a bitch and you got hit by attacks that you ran out of 2 seconds earlier.
