- Hello! This video guide is about how to install Windows on an external MicroSD, HDD, SSD or NVMe.
This external drive can operate independently and will not use your computer's hard drive.
This can be very handy when troubleshooting your or another computer's problems, or even when creating an additional backup of your computer's files to an external drive.
To do this, you need to download Windows 10 or Windows 11 ISO files and use the free Rufus software.
This conversion process is very simple and you can easily complete it in a few steps. I really hope this video is helpful.

Thank you very much for your attention to my video💕
You are the man. I've been trying to figure this out for quite a while. Thank you so much. 👌
Ok😊
Good video, clear instructions and not over the top with wordiness.
However, Rufus often mangles things so Balena Etcher or even Ventoy are preferred these days. Not sure what is going on with Rufus as it used to be work really well, but it seems to be suffering lately.
Sorry, but I don't know of such reviews about Rufus...
Please give me a link to discuss this topic if it is not difficult.
It's important for me.
Thank you very much for your positive feedback on my video😊
Exactly what I was looking for, I searched for days. Will try with my 128gb when I get home thanks mate
i have a question .. will my work will be saved after i remove my usb drive and put it on other computer or it will boot fresh.
Can i use this on my other pc too or licence is only attached to the one device?
You can use portable Windows on any other device.
The license is tied to portable Windows, not to the device to which the external drive with portable Windows will be connected.
how can i turn my ssd as os or bootable device from hdd
If you are asking how to transfer OS to another disk, you can find out about it here:

If I use this for a portable USB NVMe, will Windows boot if I put the NVMe disk back into its M2 NVMe port in the PC?
Installing Windows to Go on an external drive is completely different than installing Windows directly on a drive connected to the motherboard, and therefore the computer is unlikely to boot from such a drive.
And why would you need to do this - install Windows on an external USB NVMe, and then connect this USB NVMe to the motherboard..
how much time it takes to boot
Installing Windows on an external drive depends on several factors.
On HDD it installs slower than on SSD, on SSD m2 it installs faster, and the installation speed also depends on the computer's power.
The installation will take less than an hour or more than an hour approximately.
@@ipMalik directly this blue screen appears after restarting or green windows installation screen appears
@@ManavMahajan-zo4jf Apparently you did something wrong in one of the steps.
If you do everything correctly, exactly repeating all the actions as in my video, then everything should end successfully.
