Ofege as a group and Chris Okotie were just children of chance & luck. Their music could not be claimed to establish pop music. But have surely contributed to the wealth of pop music. There were so many pop music & pop musicians before their arrival. They came & just faded within a short time. I lived in that era as an upcoming musician. Surely baba has contributed a lot.

Fela supported many musicians, he even gave Dede Mabiaku a room to live in his house, he play like Fela he even copied Fela's mannerism , Orlando Owoh enjoyed Fela's support, Shina Peterr was with Fela and acknowledged Fela's influence on Afro Juju, even the great Ayinde Barrister had relationship with Fela.
Apart from Dede, all the other people you mentioned did not play afrobeat, so they wouldnt be threat to Fela. Orlando was a unique musician with a completely unique sounds from afrobeat. SSP na Juju, he was only using afro flavour to his sounds.

Before Fela started playing afrobeat, he was playing highlife jazz, in the style of the American blues and not strictly highlife. Orlando Julius was playing afrosoul, which is a combination of highlife, afrobeat & American soul music of the likes of James Brown & Otis Redding. You can detect this from his bass guitar line.

I think Fela is a realist activist and his music is unique, he may object people to learn his kind of music however Sir Shina peters admitted that when he was still a guitarist FELA encourage him to sing but to use 50% pidgin and 50% Yoruba which i think SSP emulate in his active career

Fela is the creator of Afro beat, he produced a wide array of stars in the genre, the likes of Dede, lagbaja, showkey, fresh, fryo, Allen, Charly boy, Sultan,etc. Many Stars played in his shrine. He gave money and playing instrument to many upcoming artists. Many stars did a remix of his songs. Many stars used his tunes, lyrics etc....his impact on so many other musicians was legendary!!!!

Were is not entirely different kankan. Infact, the Fuji Barister played initially was 70% were. It was Kolington that changed the flavour of Fuji to move away from Were, then others follow like K1 and Ayuba. It was when Kolinton moved away that Barister himself changed his sounds.

Odion Iruoje a 100% GURU !!!. A true product of Tai Solarin and Mayflower school Ikenne. A school house was actually named after him in the 70's.
