Hudson, Florida - Pasco County Sheriff's Office released bodycam footage after 79-year-old, James Zambrotto was shot by deputies. This is body worn camera footage from five deputies involved in the deputy-involved shooting at the RaceTrac at US 19 and Little Rd. in Hudson. The footage shows the beginning of the incident, when a deputy was approached by Zambrotto at the gas pumps. It continues to show deputies speaking with Zambrotto to de-escalate the situation, in which Zambrotto stated he would hurt himself and others, while setting up stop sticks to prevent the vehicle’s continued travel. Additionally, it shows Zambrotto being pepper-sprayed while deputies attempt to get Zambrotto to put down the firearm he was holding. It also shows Zambrotto ramming into a patrol car, as well as the moment Zambrotto fired at deputies and deputies returned fire. No deputies were injured as a result of this shooting and Zambrotto remains in a local hospital.

When my dad had dementia he would end up driving far away and get lost. I ended up taking the spark plugs out of his car and then he would spend hours trying to fix his car. I felt bad but he was safer....

You are awesome!!! Had a neighbor with dementia, she wondered off one night heavily wooded lots of farm land too. Her husband surrounded the house in fencing, gated the driveway then put a few cows in there to graze. Kept her safe if she woke up at night and wondered outside. May they both rest in peace...he only made it about a year after her passing then he passed.

I’ve never heard officers use that before. It seems like a good tactic to use to make that person feel too guilty to do whatever it is that could be harmful. Or at least make them think a little more about it being that it isn’t something that only affects them. Has to strike an empathetic nerve of a person prepared to cause damage when reminded of how their behavior would affect surrounding people.

My dad is 74 with bi-polar and dementia and is in this situation and we have to watch him 24/7. It isn't something we can sustain. Gonna have to hire a daycare worker full time for him which I can't afford. Just wait until your parents are old and you have to take care of them. He found himself alone in his room not knowing where she was and it was heartbreaking to explain him almost every day that she had passed. Shortly after he tripped at night while going to the bathroom and broke his hip. The time of the hospital was terrible, he would yell calling for his momma. I was already bawling my eyes out for that officer, he was so sincere that he absolutely did not want to shoot him. They all understood he was having mental issues and all they wanted was to help him. They were all so genuinely concerned about him. That officer begged him not to make him do it. I hope they all take the help they are offered to deal with this incident. It was not their fault at all, there was nothing they could have done different. The poor man was delusional and afraid, he believed everyone was trying to hurt him. My condolences to his family and friends. And if I could do anything for the officers, I would hug them long and hard, I would sit there in the dark place they stuff their pain, as long as it took. I am so so sorry that this situation came to this, I know it's not what you signed up for. It's not what you were called to do. The sweet old man didnt know what he was doing, but in the end, he left you no other choice. Talk to someone you trust, say how you feel, scream, swing a bat at something breakable, release everything you think you need to bury inside. It's the only way you can come out of this with your own mental health. Again, Im so sorry. But I also thank you for choosing this career, and thank you for making sure you go home tonight to your family. Love you guys and please work your way thru this. And dont let this change you badly, when the next guy needs help, help him, please. We cant save everyone, but maybe we can save someone. Be there for that person.

Karma is a Hindu concept and it doesn't have any place in Christianity, Judaism, or Islam. There's a similar belief but it's the justice of God and He ultimately decides who is forgiven, punished, or rewarded so a bad deed can be forgiven without repercussions and a good deed could be punished if the intention of it was bad or selfish. Karma is simply you get whatever you give, so if you do bad you get bad and it's inevitable. Karma actually ties into past lives and the deeds you did during them according to Hindu beliefs as well. You're supposed to make up the bad karma to free yourself from reincarnating according to Hinduism. So it's very different from Abrahamic religious beliefs and actually goes completely against them. The poor man didn't ask for dementia to happen to him.

Let me share my story. I will make it as short as possible. First of all, this NEVER should've happened the way it did. This scenario happened with my Dad. Big difference? I live in Canada. I was able to talk with the Police & explain my Dad's mental state. My Dad threatened to kill a Judge & his Family Doctor. His Doctor would NOT re-fill his, you're gonna love this one...his anti-psychotic medication! Yup, you read that right! My Dad had stopped taking Paxil (deadly side effects when you stop taking them suddenly, duh?!) which led to his psychotic episode. The Judge he wanted to kill was in charge of his case whereby her was being sued for 2 million dollars by a man that he hit with his car by accident. All of this became too much for my Dad & he literally lost his mind, like this poor man.
Thankfully the Swat, ETF, ATF & local Police Dept., listened to me so my Dad is still alive today, 84 yrs old. I know for sure that they would've shot & killed my Dad if I wasn't there to explain. My heart breaks for this man because he reminds me so much of how my Dad's behavior was. My Dad is an avid Hunter & Trap shooter (most people know skeet shooting but my Dad & I shot Trap) I traveled all across the USA going to Tournaments with the ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association) & my Dad holds the Title of High Canadian Shooter with the ATA. After my Dad was arrested he was Hospitalized, they seized all his Firearms, Revoked his Firearms License & now we go fishing lol no more hunting for Dad.
n my humble opinion, this was 100% avoidable if only the Police Officers had the proper training in dealing with an elderly man clearly in the midst of a mental health crisis. In Canada, de-escalation & defusing are common when dealing with a mental health crisis, age & when a Firearm is involved. I only watched until 22:32 because I, like you, wasn't able to watch an elderly man in crisis or psychosis die.
Truly heartbreaking, gut wrenching & impossible for me to fathom. Frankly, I don't see the purpose/necessity in showing him being shot. What purpose does it serve? We all know from TV & Movies what it looks like when a person gets shot. My heart goes out to the Police Officer, I'm certain he'll be affected for the rest of his Career & will suffer with PTSD. An utter Tragedy IS unfortunately the ONLY word that BEST describes what happened that night. Indeed, poor James didn't have a clue what was going on nor could he comprehend the magnitude of what was about to happen. He didn't possess the mental faculties to be able to make a clear & precise decision. God, I wish I could go back in time & save James from this, he deserved better that being shot by Police & Dementia was the REAL KILLER that took James' life that night. RIP James & I'm so sorry the system failed you.

Lol it's just a tactic to get them out of the car and be able to get control of him if needed. When someone is a suspect of any type of probable cause, it's the officer's 1st step in their head to remove them from a vehicle because it can become a few ton weapon at the blink of an eye...

LMAO, same with me, although sometimes it's just brutally unfortunate to see these officers trying so hard until it ends in violence, respect to them
