It's crazy how fortunate we are to have Mortdog

@@KingNidhogg less league and yt coments and more touching grass bro.At least pretend u know pusi is not a myth
man's spitting facts
This is what I've liked about the TFT sets I played, where they often have a comp for each type of player, whether you like fortune and it's scaling and strategy, or an early game agro comp, or a one shot comp. My favourite was elderwood with it's regen, playing for a tanky frontline and my carry Ashe allowed to just burn people down with a hundred autos. Please bring back comps that want the fight to last a little longer, I love those slow burn comps.
Agreed! I think they avoided 8 sentinel/brawler because of how dominant a tanky team becomes. With the right setup these comps just roll lobbies with the bramble/ionic augment.
6 Sentinel or Bruiser w/ stacked Tris or Zeri backline are both super viable comps rn and feel like they fill that niche to me, particularly Zeri + 6 Sentinel.
@@D1zzyF1sh Trist requires a really early two star copy with an IE to secure a Top 4, Zeri feels a lot more consistent
renata sentinel is slow burn comp kinda
Bro cooked 👨🍳
Honestly just reading the comments proves his point, you’ve got people stating things only for others to respond in disagreement lol.
Much less a problem in TFT as it is in MOBAs, imo. In cardgames there's a clash between wanting a diverse metagame and a narrow metagame, but even in TFT the bag sizes and lack of super hard anti-meta counterplay will push the preference to a diverse metagame for most types of players.
I like the champ designs that go brrrr attack speef or brrrr lots of spell projectiles
So you’re a Heimerdinger, Twitch and Zeri carry enjoyer?
@@angellopez5315 arent we all
I like comps where i can make units that simply refuse to die :D
Porcelain was one of my favorite traits alongside Automata
I remember when I am always picking the Dancing Crab every time I see it in set12. Its fun happy time.
same lol
also i like trainer golem as opposed to so many other ppl
Happy times for you, meanwhile you were making some others to literally throw up on a keyboard after they realized they are going to play crab rave for the 129038129804719058th time. And if you add that some of the speciments were obnoxious to the point where they would start spampinging everyone who dares to vote on something else, we just entered one the most unbearable experience TFT had so far.
@ I feel like 90% people voted for Crab Rave when there is one. We are majority
Can you explain me how it is RNG if you play non contested champion and one games it takes literaly 5 rolls to hit 3 star and next game you spend 80 gold and barely make it 2star? Why after loose streak you high roll for win streak in placements?
so wouldnt giving tournaments the option to choose between three portals just good for competitive tft and doesnt effect casual players
Idk where anyone came up with the idea that people who are plat and below its because they barely play. There are Hella people that play 500+ games of league/tft and are stuck all throughout bronze-emerald. Also a lot of the people who "barely play" would barely change ranks from playing more its just ego cope
Meanwhile there is a large number of people that hate 6 cost and you are talking about them like they are fun and balanced. The more I listen to Mort the more I'm convinced he just goes with the flow of his delusions.
Agreed.
Feel like i need to say that, because I have been negative on a few others. Not all negative
Mortdog should be president
Title of this video is just wrong neither mort nor the question specified anything related to balance lul.
Balance is hard when comps vary in difficulty. For example yone/kayn comp in set 11. Statistically balanced or slightly strong (4.4~) in higher elos but extremely frustrating for lower elos (4.2,4.3~, even 4.1/4.0 at times) because it’s an easy comp (play bunch of heavenlys with yone/kayn/leesin)
Cashout traits fortune/chembaron gets nerfed because pros are too good at navigating it, but worsens the experience for casuals that love these high risk traits.
Nevertheless TFT devs do a good job
Mort is extremely intelligent and well-spoken - no wonder he plays a major role in developing TFT. Neither the casuals nor the pros know what's best for the game, but I disagree with the approach taken by Mort. Portal choices should be decided by what the majority of the player base wants, not the designer.
Ai comment looking ass
Add PvE
Yes becouse realying on "for fun/highroll" stuff should give you same LP as consistently trying to improve and play on competetive level. Im sorry but if you are hardstuck diamond, yet you rely on highroll portals or highroll mechaics in general to climb. You are supposed to be diamond.
Just going to comment, my Vanguard was crashing my computer, legitimately. I would have random crashes occur throughout the day and tried to search for why it was happening. Some files got corrupted, and I fixed them, and right after I fixed those files Vanguard stopped working. The computer doesn't crash anymore though.
I think that baseline knowledge skills should be balanced by casuals ie itemization, level break points, etc while the situational knowledge should be by pros such as unit strength, augments, portals. Pros should be differentiated by their knowledge of what to do in certain spots, but we should make it easier for casuals to learn this aspect by balancing items and stuff for them to understand
The item system is pretty intuitive though what are you saying lol
@@angellopez5315 I mean but learning items is the first level of tft. There are different items that do similar things and being able to distinguish them BB vs Shojin or HoJ vs BT. Itemization used to be different in earlier sets, but yes these days items are pretty well known
What are you even talking about. You said 15 lines and you still don't have a point

Or you could just disable the RNG encounters on tournament realm
If a player play 700 games and is in diamond he is just bad😂
Yup true, im diamond in under 100 games.
@@Luke18902 were they AFK for 650 of those 700 ranked games then or what?
@@Luke18902but playing normal where many players ff just because they dont get the augments they want is also boring
What rank are you ?
@Luke18902 I can’t imagine someone hitting diamond and switching to norms for hundreds of games instead of trying for masters
Guess i am the magical 3 % once again that doesnt like infinite removers and reforgers. I dont know when was the last time i had to make subideal items on my main carry or tank. We really do not need more power and more control to copy force tft academy comps straight into the game...
ur in the vast minority for a reason - it was a fantastic change that allows for more skill expression
Will make sure to stay off your lawn
Top players make subideal items all the time, for pushing win streaks and saving HP. The remover changes doesn’t change that; in fact, it helps it, since now you can move items more easily, so a slammed guinsoos on corki can be moved to Jayce later, when without removers you might not even slam that suboptimal item.
As for reforgers, the newest change does increase reforgers rate a lot; not sure how I feel about it yet.
i would agree if it was random, but it's not. remover drops are still something you need to plan around, and it allows you to shift your comp around, which mitigates the feeling of being shafted by bad items early on. It's not like you can just slam anything because it's fine I'll remove it later. you still need planning and skill
nice explaining mortdog please bring back the augment stats
Pls not nobody needs augment stats
do not bring back augment stats
No 🎉
nah
My LP is rising after stat removed so Big NO NO
OG game devs like mortdog are so nice to listen to compared to these new gen millennials
Sorry to break it to you buddy but Mort is a Millennial. Millennials are 29-44 and Mort is 41
Millennials are 30 to 45 years old right now, not sure of you identified the problem with the right metric.
@@luke19etmp As a 97’er how dare you lump me in with them. I’m a 96 Millennial truther >:D
Ironically your comment is exactly the kind of thing mort is complaining about in the video. Trying to put everything into two categories and “this category good” “this one bad”. Believe it or not there are talented individuals and great communicators of all ages.
@@Tintergames He said "new gen" millennials, I don't think 41 of 44 is considered new gen.
I’m pretty positive that perfected chembaron items are not good design!!
Go to scream in the void
I dislike it, but I don't think it is a bad design.
It is supposed to be the high risk high reward trait.
@@E_D___ and it fails at being that. They had to completely kill the items cause it wasnt high risk, you just get to 500 and dont have to do anything, you play the same units you put the items on the units it meant to go on and thats it. Least skill expressive loss streak treat ever.
@Korisnik-z6c
Your explanation is odd.
They nerfed the high end perfected because they were to big of a reward, and buffed the low end because they weren't worth the risk.
Again, personally I dislike the chembaron trait. For me it is one of the least fun cashout traits I got to play with (*I didn't get to play with all of them).
But that doesn't mean it is a bad design 😕
@@E_D___ the problem is that it isnt high risk you just win if ur not terrible at the game at worst its medium risk high reward
So eliminating agency (removing voting) was the route they went. removing prismatic pandoras on 4-2 and his reasoning was the last straw for me in taking his commentary seriously. Continually, bit by bit, player agency, qnd therefore skill expression is being chipped away. As a whole, i think mort is usally so kneejerk with his ego leading reactions and it often turns into him venting about professional players. He's been wrong multiple times during patch cycles to the point of outright dismissiveness (lux and lone hero and hin legit telling peolle they need to build around countering her). My biggest gripe rn is the loot orb that grants spat/pan while others get 2 4costs, or a neeko?
You can apply to riot if you want to change things. Many of us players are happy with what mort has done
@huyngo3086 cool, great, let me just not have any opinion or critique about balancing and the guy that mixes personal opinions with disingenuous takes while he handles the balancing. what kind of dumb moronic comment is that..."apply to riot" . just ignore the my comment in its entirety and main dialogue about balance that has been occuring for the last two patch cycles that Mort is insistent on revisiting. "Many of us players"? and so what? many of us players do not like his, at time, contradictory and inconsistent design philosophy... the problem for you is I can actually point to specific things instead of just saying in a parasocial way "many of us like what Mort is doing". The guy has a take that muddies the water with the predatory treasure realms gacha system. You can have him.
Idk dude, picking Prismatic Pandoras in 4-2 when other players have spiked with their augments sounds like a grief to me. You're willing to bleed and wait 2, 3, even 4 rounds to actually get the correct items for your carries just to go 8th?
Hey if he wants the agency to go turbo 8th with pandoras 4-2 he can, Mort should be ashamed for removing that possibility@@LowrollHater
Pris pandoras at 4-2 is gigagriefing your own game; why would they not remove an augment showing up when it only serves as a noob trap?
Regarding your point about removing complexity - thats the entire point. TFT is constantly becoming more complex as new features are added. How do you pick augments, how do you play around your anomaly, how do you play around different portals or high/low gold games? These are all new points of complexity. If they dont trim the fat in complexity elsewhere then the game becomes a messy hodgepodge of escalating complexity that is less fun for existing players and impossible to get into for new players. Complexity in game design is a budget, and removing bad complexity to make room for good complexity is how you keep the game healthy
You did NOT ruin the game. However, the Remover thing is boring af (sorry).
See, everyone can have "bad" opinion ^^ (and that's just imo)
Disagree, it allows for more optimalization during the game. I do think tho, that it could be tuned down a bit, maybe every second PvE round.
