    Hello! Thank you again for this video, it has been very helpful. I was wondering if you could make a video on how to polish the back inside part of the ring. The back of the bezel area. I’m having a very tough time reaching those areas particularly when making double split shank rings. How do you reach inside those little areas and attain a uniform polish? Your Hummingbirds are a game changer. I LOVE THEM1

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG Рік тому +1

      Hello Shukarr, the best way to make the polishing easy at the end is to polish every piece you make separately before soldering, most people don't do that and it becomes a nightmare at the end, yes I know it takes more time at the beginning but it's faster in the long time. I also have a video on polishing and here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/3-7SSXsS4xA/v-deo.htmlsi=UZOca9DEnP3HMgl3
      Thank you for using the Hummingbirds and I'm glad they help you.

      @@ElieGhanimeEG Thanks, yes I always. Are sure to do that. Unfortunately sometimes the solder will flow out or does not go where it’s supposed to and leaves a big mark. It’s very hard to get rid of that solder in between the shank parts once it’s there. That’s what I was wondering about. How do you personally get rid of that solder when accidents happen?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG Рік тому +1

      @@Shukarr I see your problem, but let's first understand why this is happening. Solder will go towards the heat and in the areas were you have the flux, next is the amount of solder you use, the solder has to go somewhere so if you put more than what you need you'll end up with a blob of solder on the area you don't need. so knowing all this what we have to do?
      1- Look at the area to be soldered (and ONLY the area to be soldered).
      2- Determine the amount of solder you need to fit in between ( you'll be surprised of the small amount you will need).
      3- Flux ONLY the area to be soldered and not all around it or all over the place.
      4- Heat all the parts then concentrate on the area to be soldered and be quick, once the solder melts make sure you go back with the heat to insure that the solder been melted where it's needed.
      To clean the extra solder you'll need to grind, file and sand the area then re-polish again.
      I hope this will help.

    How do you make a signet ring from a pre-made signet ring blank with the least tools required?

  • @ginaformica2108
    @ginaformica2108 2 роки тому +2

    EG, do you make the hummingbird picks? Also, when you sweat solder the shanks , how can you be certain that it is level when you center it on the bezel? Isn’t there a bump of solder there now? Or is it ok since you leveled it before you sweat soldered it? Thanks!

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG 2 роки тому +1

      Hello Gina, I do make the hummingbirds and if you give me your email address I can send you all the information and how you can order them.
      Regarding the sweat solder it’s very simple, when I put it on the piece, I just make sure it’s stuck on it, so it’s bumpy. However, when I solder the two piece together I have to make sure that I apply enough heat for the solder to melt and that will eliminate any bumps, also when you’re soldering anything, the surfaces and the solder has to be in a liquid state in order to bonds together, you’re basically melting all the materials at that point into one and that takes a split of a second, that’s why timing and flame movements are crucial, the other thing that help flatten the surface is the weight of the hummingbirds. I hope my explanation is good but if you still have other questions please let me know and thank you for watching my videos ☺️

    What size tip are you using for soldering the shanks on?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG 4 роки тому

      Hi Kris Olsen, the tip I'm using is "0" but I can use different tips with the same end results, it's mostly heat control, once the pieces you're soldering get to the right temperature the solder will melt, hot tip the solder will melt fast smaller tip it will take a bit longer. However, your hand movement and the control of flame direction must done based on the tip size.

    Does anyone have any recommendations on how to remove the sanding marks and grooves formed from using the sanding drum on the backplate?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Natasha, if you’re using sandpaper on the backplate, try to use finer grit before polishing, also if you polish every piece before soldering everything together it will make the final polish very good and fast. You can watch my video on (Polishing Your Silver Rings & Bezels) here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/AKxqHGkT9lk/v-deo.html
      The video is on my other channel “Elie Ghanime”.

      @@ElieGhanimeEG I use the sandpaper mandrel from Dremel in 120 grit to sand away the inner ring band edges so there are no sharp edges.
      This is causing the backplate to warp slightly where the dremel sandpaper touches the backplate. I have been unsuccessful in removing those marks.
      Could you please consider doing a close up video on how you remove those inside ring edges and then smooth down the backplate?
