So sad that much of the world - especially US - only know Hans Christian Andersen through very distorted presentations like those of Disney. He wrote so much more than fairy tales! And his fairy tales have so much substance for adults. And so much humour and thought between the lines by elegant little twists of language. One of the finest interpreters of Hans Christian Andersen is Queen Margrethe of Denmark! What a delight it has been to see her illustrations and costumes!
Nice! If you're curious there's an even bigger official Hans Christian Andersen museum in his hometown of Odense (about a 1 hour train ride and a hop across the great belt bridge from Copenhagen) which is actually being redone about now. Part of the museum is in his childhood home (yes the real building) but everything else is being rebuilt right now.
It's sad that despite his fame and affluence he never seems to have been truly happy. The tales he left behind continue to be enjoyed around the world.
Awesome!!!!
Did you know that Frozen was inspired by the snow queen
He did his first story 1835 .
Andersen compare himself with " the ugly duckling "
