I cried so hard when Warner was pronounced dead… I was 6 years old, he was my favorite driver.. I sat in Miss Eagle Electric the day before the crash. The Colonel picked me up and put me in the cockpit of the Eagle.I will never forget Col.Warner Gardner, he was my friend and friend of my family. Dad was working for Dynamic Films as a spotter on that fateful day on the Detroit river. Dad, later was in charge of Credentials and in charge of Pit Security at the Detroit Pits. The Colonel was and will always be my favorite driver of unlimited hydroplanes.Long Live U-25 Miss Eagle Electric! The Greatest Boat of All Time. ❤❤❤❤❤

Another comment. When we were in our Mission Bay High school in 1970 we could hear the crash of Tommy Fults in the time trial that took his life in the Lil Buzzard. In class we all looked at each other and knew something bad had happened. 🙏

If not for the whole hearted support of the Schoenith family, Unlimited racing would have been less relevant..The Gale boats..Smirnoff, Gale's Roostertail, Savair's Probe, along with the other Detroit Race Boats, Miss U.S. and the Notre Dame which was based from Detroit by Shirley Mendelson McDonald, made a formidable contingent at every race in the Series...Until he regrouped with the Pay-N-Pak team, the Miss Eagle Electric was Dave Heerensperger's best shot at a Gold Cup..Colonel Gardner's death in Detroit caused a few owners to rethink their positions in the sport..Bill Harrah, left the sport soon after, and taking with him one of the most competitive boats on the water, the Tahoe Miss...
