correction: spinosaurus was only bigger than T.rex in terms of body length, there are many other factors for how big an animal is, such as body mass and width, in wich the T.rex easily surpasses the spino
Unless of course, I draw Spinosaurus closer to the page! :P In all honesty, I agree. It’s a bit like comparing the size of a rock to a pair of scissors. And as always, I love the feedback!
Hmmm, just remeber spino had denser bones, and didnt swim, so it was a dense boned land based animal. Which is like elephants, rhinos, and sauropods, which are the biggest things around by mass. If not , then why would it have such dense bones?
The algorithm is doin its job RIGHT today! Really neat little channel, very informative with wonderful animations, so glad I got it on my recommended ❤ Also I adore your little gremlin mascot thing!
Looking forward to the Dilophosaurus video. But also more controversies, such as the validity of Troodon, Nanotyrannus as a juvenile Tyrannosaurus and the different species of Tyrannosaurus, pack behaviour in Dromaeosauridae. Great video by the way!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :) You touched on a few topics I want to cover (one of which is high on my short list). This isn’t a dinosaur channel, and I’m not a paleontologist, so it’ll be a while, but I for sure want to cover more.
I love dinosaurs! And I love the fact this is animated 😩 I'm surprised this is a small channel! It's good quality content that I hope more people see soon!
The idea that we may never find out how dinosaurs actually looked like in our life times + the idea of the mystery of their bones makes the topic so interesting. We still may not know how dinosaurs were at all, and maybe we never will. Although is it just me that prefers the new spin over the old one? Just feels so nice to look at
I think you’ve touched on what I also like about Spinosaurus. So much stuff doesn’t get preserved, but when it comes to dinosaurs, we tend to gravitate towards a uniform design. In comes Spinosaurus, and we have an animal that breaks away from that and gets to be weird.
Dinosaurs (and other prehistoric animals) are a lifelong passion of mine. I’m definitely not an expert, but I hope to keep making fun videos about them. :) Thank you so much for your comment!
0:58 Not bigger, longer. Size is measured by mass, and T. rex was more massive than Spinosaurus. Spinosaurus was the longest theropod dinosaur, but not the biggest.
What i find odd is that its hunting behavior is said to be that of a heron, yet the legs on the current model are derpy short and weak. It also couldnt use its hands to hold itself up like a grizzly would since its wrists weren't flexible or strong enough to do that. Honestly, the entire modern spino thing feels like a paleontologist got a bit to excited for a possible new spinosaur discovery and botched the process a bit as a result.
That's sort of the history of this animal in a nutshell. I disagree a bit with the they “botched” part, but it does seem like they like to really like swing the pendulum with this one. Thank you for taking the time to comment! I hope you enjoyed the video. :)
@@napkinanimations by botched I meant it seems like they didnt let the scientific method run it's full course and instead stopped halfway through to serve a possibly unfinished model in order for it to get a lot of attention. Science can have it's fair share of inner politics and theatrics after all.
One thing to point out (sorry if I sound nerdy) but dinosaurs are scaled by mass not length so the t.rex was bigger than the spino in the way their size are measured, heck the tyrannosaurus was the biggest theropod dinosaur.
Not at all! I really appreciate the feedback on this stuff. :) I agree with you and everyone else who's mentioned it. In fact, it’s a point I make in my archeology videos. Here, I was trying to use a popular talking point to convey that size isn’t a trait that best defines the animal. Still you all are correct T-Rex is a big boi! Thank you again for the great feedback!
Ok, here is my weird take, its too big to be hunting fishes in shallow waters like a stork I say that the spine was like foldable fan, it sticks to spino when it needs to go down and unfurls when it needs to stay up or, it used its spine as a wall to block paths of schools of fishes and eat them before they can move around it, the shape of its tail would help it in it
That’s a really neat idea! I’d love to look into that more. I mostly stayed away from terrestrial locomotion, so I didn't consider how that might translate to water. Structurally, there’s a lot to overcome, but as much as has changed with this animal, it wouldn’t surprise me.
There is 1 dinosaur that is almost confirmed to have lived in and near water. The Deinocheirus (another enigma, but at least for this one we have a fully complete skeleton) which was found with aquatic vegetation and fish scales in its stomach!
This dino was always interesting cause of it's features and how big it was. . .plus Jurassic 3 made me like even more then the T-Rex. Not my personal favorite, but I can appreciate a dino that is seen as the blacksheep or hated by JP fans.
I’d love to see it return in JW4. Personally, I’m okay with mistakes in the movies as long as they admit the dinosaurs are chimeras (which they do). I would love to see a more modern version of Spinosaurus, but even if they kept the JP3 model for continuity, as long as they have a line that covers it, I’d still enjoy the movie.
This is difficult to answer as the size of the prey and the fact that we don’t know things like metabolic rate all factor in. Given its size and predatory nature, I would assume a significant amount, but I can't say for sure.
In my humble opinion spinosaurus didnt exist and those bones are a mix of baryonyx and a large prehistoric fish,or a crocodilian species mixed with some slow prehistoic terrestrial prey animal. Those femur bones are short and would fit crocodilian perfectly. As currently constructed that dino would not be be suited to either land or water, and the bones where found in a area where mostly croc bones where found.Today we see multiple croc species co habitating so why not then?As a shallow water ambush predator he would fail due to sail that large.Open water would make it prey to larger more adapted animals, the sail is a huge weak point for animals with large mouths.Crocs probably got at a heard of giant camel species or some large iguana like species
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time we mistakenly mixed together different animals. 😂 But I think we have better redundancies for stuff like that today. We should be able to test whether the two fossils are from the same material.
Hey there, so I see that you too love dinosaurs and are familiar with dinosaurs that have limited material and difficulty in interpretation. Have you ever looked into dinosaurs of Appalachia?
@@napkinanimations Beyond multiple species that are only slightly getting attention like Appalachiosaurus, there is also some of the earliest hadrosaurs like Eotrachodon, possibly the largest hadrosaur in North America, possibly the largest ankylosaur in the world that was found in Maryland, and even the forgotten start of American Paleontology with finds in New Jersey. Spino was only the 3rd largest therapod
Spino isn't biger than t-rex, because spino weighed 7 tons. Tyranosaurus weighed 10 tons. So t-rex was biger than spino
is weird how some people don't think dinosaurs existed
There is actually an aquatic dinosaur that have been discovered, the penguin

Arguably more terrifying :P

How can we get spinosaurus wrong when we don't even know what spinosaurus looks like when it's right?

Not the late Cretaceous it’s around the early Cretaceous
And not bigger than a Rex because the Rex is heavier in mass cause mass=size=how big
