I wondered why they are more black than actually Red. I have seen some pics where they are almost full orange or red. Do you know what the reason could be they are they black?
Great Question! The more active the males are in courting the females the "redder" they get. The other key factor and probably most important when viewing our video is that most of the photos you see online or possibly in-person at a shop or aquarium is that they have artificial or replicated "natural" lighting. Our videos are taken outdoors in natural light, under bird netting and shade cloth and are in a 3,000+ gallon vault. There's lots shadows and a ton of green reflection not to mention the camera placement in most of the video is 4-6 feet away from the fish. (we zoom quite a bit in post-production of the video) If you were to see them up-close and in person their color would be much more pronounced. Thanks for watching and your question!
