My favourite time of the year watching the red deer rut on Exmoor
It is a fantastic annual wildlife spectacle I look forward to 👍🏻
What a great park to have close by!! Spectacular shots!!
Thanks very much, it really is a fantastic place and so very beautiful at this time of the year with it's autumnal colours.
I so love to see those. You sre doing a great job! Keep up the wonderful work and thank you for bringing us along!
Thanks very much Jon, I’m glad you are enjoying the videos 👍🏻
Always a pleasure seeing your video notifications pop up on my phone! Great video as always matey
Thanks very much Marc, I really appreciate that mate 👍🏻
I was over at Tatton on Saturday morning. Boy was it warm ! Plenty of roaring too, in between the planes!
Them dam planes don’t half spoil it don’t they 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Hope you got some cracking photos 👍🏻
Another great video Dan, keep up the great work… it’s always a good idea to beat a hasty retreat with a red coming towards you this time of year 👍🏻
Thanks very much Karl, I genuinely think that we would’ve been in trouble had we not legged it 😂 all the best 👍🏻
The footage of the big Red charging would probably make a great outtakes video, I seen it happen last year to a clown that got too close and wouldn’t listen to the warnings from other photographers, great video as usual Dan
Cheers Derek, appreciate it. There’s always one or two people who behave inappropriately giving us all a bad name isn’t there 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for another great video Dan, it takes me back to my days as a teenager, riding through Bushey Park on my bicycle with my pal to watch the Red deer fighting, well that's what we thought back then, now up here in the NE we have substantial numbers of Roe. Think you're right about seeing the Reds in Scotland in a Glen setting would be good, great footage as usual , cheers
Thanks very much Derek, I’m glad that the video sparked some fond memories.
I’m definitely going to try and get up to Scotland for the rut next year.
All the very best 👍🏻
Great video
Thanks very much, I appreciate it 👍🏻
Great video! Looking forward to your take on the new firmware for improved bird tracking. 😊
Thanks very much, much appreciated. I was at a nature reserve at the weekend photographing Bearded Reedlings, it’s the first time since downloading the latest firmware. I found it to be fantastic and a significant improvement over the previous animal eye tracking. The bird tracking feature locked on really well and was sticking to the subject well through foliage and against Reed beds 👍🏻
I really enjoy watching your channel. The videos are really well produced, with a very appropriate length and content.
Always enjoy pops as well 😊
Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks very much Mads I really appreciate your support and positive comment.
All the best 👍🏻
Enjoyed the video whose monopod are you using. Keep them coming looking forward to the next one with pops.
Thanks very much Malcolm. The monopod is from manfrotto, I will pop a link below 👇🏻

Grrqt video and also here in Dublin in the phoenix park you have a range of Deer 🦌 and other animals to photograph
Thank you, Ireland is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit in the future 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography The Phoenix Park is one of the largest enclosed public parks in any capital city in Europe.A large herd of wild fallow deer still remain to this day. The Park is also home to the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre, Áras an Uachtaráin, Zoological Gardens, Victorian Flower Gardens, a Biodiversity Information Centre, Phoenix Café and Tea Rooms. The Phoenix Park is only a mile and a half from O’Connell Street. Both passive and active recreational pursuits may be pursued such as walking, running, polo, cricket, hurling and many more. The Glen Pond is set in very scenic surrounds in the Furry Glen. There are many walks and cycle trails available to the public.
Hi Dan great video as always , stunning images. What time are you aloud to walk into the park , because the sign says 10am assume that’s for vehicles. Cheers Rob
Thanks for your comment Rob, the Knutsford entrance has an open gate from first light. All other entrances are closed until the park opens 👍🏻
Just back from Killarney National Park in Ireland photographing the Irish Red Deer Rut. These animals are huge. Lucky to come across a Monarch who ruled the roost. He is reckoned to be the largest low land deer this year at over 500IB. A great way to spend a few days.
That sounds absolutely fantastic, I would love to visit Ireland, definitely on my bucket list of places to go 👍🏻
Great footage Dan, magnificent animals. must Visit not been for years 😀
Thanks very much Mark, really appreciate it 👍🏻
Super video and wonderful shots of the deer , I was watching some on mull last week but all my photos was from a long way off, plenty of bellowing and got shot of one mating . Love the quality of your images and makes me wonder if I have got wrong system
Thanks very much Stephen I appreciate that. I have struggled to photograph the deer during the rut whilst on Mull as most of the deer move up into the mountains so you’ve done really well to get some shots 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography they were all at distance but at low level on way to grass point , they are always there early in day
@@stephencooper8565 thanks for the info on that I will bare that in mind for future trips 👍🏻
Great video Dan. Have you been to Bradgate Park, definitely worth a visit next year. I’ve just been, same thing it’s still a bit mild but had a great day.
Thanks very much. Funnily enough I had arranged to visit Bradgate park last weekend with a fellow UA-camr but had to cancel last minute. I’ll definitely be visiting there in the future 👍🏻
Another quality video Dan
Thanks very much David 👍🏻
Enjoyed that Dan!
Thanks very much Keith 👍🏻
Nice Dan, Hoping to get some rutting on Mull at the end of the month!
I’m envious pal, have a fantastic trip. Cheers mate, all the best 👍🏻
Thanks Dan, I can see you are enjoying the Z400mm 2.8 two lenses in one, a 400mm flick the switch to 560mm absolute magic.
Thanks very Gerald, I am enjoying the lens it’s an absolute cracker. I’m my next video I pair it with the 2xTC and put it up against Pops with his 800mm pf lens 👍🏻
Lovely Dan, I normally go up to Exmoor for a few days, but work commitments mean I won’t get there this year, shame as it’s a fantastic experience
Thanks Andy, I would love to photograph the Red Deer out in the wild rather than in a park. Something to go on the list for the future 👍🏻
I got that lens in April, expensive but awesome. Hoping to get out this week on the fallow rut. Great video Dan.
Thanks very much Bob. Totally agree with you, this lens is fantastic 👍🏻 best of look with the fallow deers
Hello and thank you for this very interesting video. I wanted to know if outside of the rutting period, the deer were accessible. I'm planning to spend a day there on the road to Scotland . Regards. (Google traduction from french)
Thank you for your comment I always enjoy reading from viewers from other countries. Yes the deer are accessible all year round in Tatton Park, there are both Red and Fallow deer present 👍🏻
Thank you ! @@danwillis_photography
I tried to buy you and pops a coffee and a danish each but had no joy. Can you highlight your link. Great videos.
Thank you so much, I’ve popped the link below 👇🏻

Thanks again 👍🏻
Wow, having just spent the weekend with their highland brothers, the antler mass on those lowland red deer is just incredible!!
Hope you're enjoying the 400mm lens - that's the dream lens right there! How are you finding it for handholding?
Thanks very much Geoff, I would love to get up into the highlands and see the rut, one for the future bucket list I think.
The 400mm is incredible, it’s really useable for handholding tbh and so much lighter than my older 500mm. I paired it with my 2xTC for my next video and put it up against Pops with his 800mm pf lens, the results are quite surprising.
All the best mate 👍🏻
Cool - I'll look forward to watching that...
Great images Dan. Was there myself a couple of weeks ago but all the stags were in groups with females so difficult to get any decent shots on their own. Looking to return later in the month though. 👍😃
Thanks Ian, think I was lucky that morning as a friend went same day but in the afternoon and had a very similar experience to yours. I will definitely be returning in a couple of weeks 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography just the luck of the draw. I parked where you did and walked in but they were all at the far end. Long walk with a big lens!
hi hows you likeing your new lens or to you miss your 500ml great video
The new lens is fantastic, I used it yesterday with my 2xTC at 800mm and was blown away by the quality of the shots (video coming soon).
Enjoyed this Dan. Thanks for the natural history elements - very informative.
@@davet3530 thanks very much Dave 👍🏻
I often go here, how long does rut season last?
Starts end of September and can run through to the end of November. The peak and best time is end of October beginning of November 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography I will have to pop down in the next 2 weeks, cheers bud
Just FYI we were there yesterday, got some great photos, but very little rutting action going on. Will try and get back next week. Great video again Dan.
@@chrismc2090 thanks for the heads up I appreciate it 👍🏻
Male fallow deer are not stags they are bucks !!
Thanks for the correction
Hello Dan, a good video with good images but too bad you don't have the soul of a bullfighter, your wife could have taken good images😂
😂😂😂 I definitely don’t have the soul of a bullfighter and want to live to see another day.
Thanks for your comment it made me chuckle 🤭
