Cecil, ignore complainers! Love your dedication. You could make videos about Barbie and Avengers, but instead you are doing something special. Thank you and keep up good work
Agreed, The thing about obscure TV shows are that any TV show that is truly obscure pre-90s wont have nearly any trace to find short of personal memories. So anything Cecil will post here will be known by some people here, heck especially here given the subject matter of his other videos.
Yakov Smirnoff was great on Night Court where he played reoccurring character... Yakov. Right up there with Brent Spiner who played reoccurring character... Bob. Yakov was from Russia and Bob was from... Yugoslavia. Night Court! What a show!
I definitely remember "What A Country!". I liked Yakov Smirnoff although once the Soviet Union came unglued, much of his schtick was considered old hat. I remember him also as a recurring character on Night Court playing a Russian immigrant who befriends Judge Harry Stone. Loved Otherworld! I watched it when it was first run and it had so much potential! I was really disappointed it didn't last more than a season. I remember the actor who played son "Trace" ended up on Head of The Class (as preppy genius Alan Pinkus) not long after the show ended. I had heard of Dog and Cat but never saw it. Obviously I didn't miss much.
I remember watching Otherworld on Saturday mornings in the UK. I loved the show and was pissed off when it just stopped being shown. I’m happy to see you guys cover it 👍🏼
Otherworld was great, the different zones or city states, gave each episode a unique flavor. The cast was great, particularly Johnna Lee as the daughter. I loved this, but thought I dreamed it! CBS only aired 8 of 13, never giving the show a chance. I highly recommend seeking it out. Thanks Cecil
AHH! Jonathan Banks as Commander Krull! Glad he finally got on some great long lasting shows eventually. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul won't wind up on any "Obscure Shows You've Never Seen" Lists anytime soon!
Banks also landed a big role on TV back in the 1980's with "Wiseguy". Interestingly enough, Dean Norris who was also on "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" got inspired to go into acting by seeing Banks in the series and thinking "well, they need all kinds of people".
I was a huge sci-fi nerd in my youth, & would tune in to anything with a sci-fi premise. I do remember Otherworld's basic premise & that the family was constantly on the run & adapting to different circumstances in each territory while the officer pursuing them had less success...but that's about all I recall, I'd forgotten that the show's name was one word (I'd thought it was "The Other World" for the longest time). Great to see you cover it here!
I have vague, vague memories of Otherworld, and talking about it in school after each episode. You keep killing it with the nostalgia-bait on this series, man.
Weird too see that Otherworld wasn't very popular, but I think It might hit better today for 2 mayor things. 1: We are on a time where most shows and movies tap into the concept of an alternate universe. And 2: I has the actor that played Mike" Freakin" Hermatraut from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as the main villain.
@@Madbandit77 That was a great series - Stephen Cannell helped launch so many interesting actors on his various shows. It's really fun to see Banks getting so much appreciation now.
I love when you do insert shows I’m vaguely familiar with..it’s a reward for watching while learning about things I didn’t know. I feel the pop culture landscape tends to bury a lot of shows despite them airing and being seen by a large audience, so many shows have been forgotten from a stand point, even if singularly people may remember them. For example, when you think of TGIF, everyone mentions Family Matters or Step by Step, but no one mentions Hanging with Mr. Cooper in the same breath; or when people talk about Must See TV they talk Friends or Seinfeld, but forget Caroline in the City, the Single Guy, or Boston Common.
Thank you for the review. Some I do remember other shows were new to me. You do a great job bringing back memories from my childhood growing up. A show to add to your next video, Demsey and Make peace. Not sure of the spelling, it was about a tough cop who goes to England for some reason and is paired with a beautiful British female police officer. 1980's, in that decade. Thanks again.
Your lists are dope. I’m sure those comments don’t speak for us normies who don’t remember every show in tv history. You’re doing some cool stuff here, uncovering things I’ve completely forgotten about. It’s a great nostalgia hit and I thank you kindly.

Well, I'll say congratulations. This is the first time I've not recognized ANY of the shows on the list. It surprised the heck out of me that I never heard of the Yakov show, because I was an 80s kid and that guy really was everywhere for a while.
Hey, I remember Otherworld as well as Dog and Cat -- but yeah, they were obscure. I recall a female chauvinism episode of Otherworld, and an attempted Playboy style write-up of Krull was "I like to shout and shoot." As for Dog and Cat, Antonio loved to say "Zilch" and when he had to say goodbye to an old flame, Basinger tried to cheer him up with a hamburger with lots of onions. Now those were the days when they appreciated writing.
I am LOVING this series! Chopper Squad reminded me of a shortlived series I loved: Dolphin Cove! And Otherworld made me think of The Phoenix for some reason. Thanks for letting us know where we can view these as well!
even if I've seen the occasional show, it doesn't matter, I love these "Forgotten TV shows" videos. Lots of nostalgia, lots of surprises. So keep up the good work. :)
There's another show floating around called "Riverworld" that has a similar premise as "Otherworld". Both of them, unfortunately , ended before their time. Otherworld also had a predecessor "The Fantastic Journey" back in the 70s that was also a personal fav of mine.
I remember liking Otherworld. It was a few years too soon. It could have been a decent streaming service show with better writing and actors. I swear, by coincidence, I recently watched the pilot episode of Chopper Squad. At least as much of it as I could stand.
I like how you are shining a light on a lot of these shows. Some I remember clearly, some I remember vaguely, some I don't remember at all but am intrigued enough to want to hunt them down.
Since I was an 80s kid I can understand why I never even heard of Chopper squad. Being a 70s show reruns were probably aired late at night past my bedtime. But browsing through the comments it made me laugh that the only people familiar with it are Brits, given their reputation of being obsessed with classic Aussie soaps and dramas. Also, after recently looking into the controversy surrounding Dan Schneider that feet reference cracked me up.
Wow. I think this was the first time you have a complete list and I hadn't heard of at least one of the shows. But I am older and watched a lot of TV when I was growing up, so I've seen and remember a lot of stuff that the average viewer likely wouldn't. Good list, man. Thanks.
The only show of this group I have heard of before is What a Country, thanks to you Cecil ;-) I enjoy these videos very much. There was some interesting shows that didnt get a chance and were gone before they could find an audience. Keep em coming!
I would like to offer a suggestion for possible future content: The strange history of Saved By the Bell. Knowing both how it started and some of the weird things that happened later on it's a prime example of how syndication can revive a program as well as what happens when networks meddle with a show too much.
Some how I remember "what a country" from when I was 7. Guaranteed I wouldn't have without this channel. Of not obscure to others, it was obscured in my mind
Here in the UK only 2 shows I remember were shown, Chopper Squad (which was shown on ITV late at night 11:35) & Dog & Cat also on ITV but shown at 8pm, I always wondered why it was a short run so thank you Cecil for the info. ITV had a bad habit of showing US imports but always dropping them after a number of episodes.
It might be that this channel attracts an audience that by its nature seeks out the obscure and forgotten. Still, it is also nice to have a guide. Keep up the great work.
People are complaining about the content you put out? Don’t listen to them please, your videos are excellent. I’ve watched a lot of obscure and forgotten movies and shows because of your spotlighting them. Keep doing what you want it’s why I keep watching!
I have to agree, most forgotten shows you exhibit are fondly remembered by me. But I'm just satisfied that someone else remembers these, cause I rarely had friends that liked all the TV I liked as a teen. They definitely have forgotten them if they even had enough memory to forget.
I remember "Otherworld" very well. It was one of the many obscure Sci-Fi shows I used to watch during the 80's. Such as Highway Man, Manimal, Misfits Of Science, Hard Time On Planet Earth, Phoenix, Something Is Out There and Mann & Machine. There are probably many more I can't remember.
I thought that was Patrick Mcgoohan in the thumbnail at first. I was eager to see what on earth could there be out there that he did that I need to see that I haven't seen already. As you can tell, I am a fan of The Prisoner. It turns out that it was not him. Oh well! I like learning learning about the stories behind these obscure TV shows. It is really rare that I recognize some of these series and I can't help mention that I remember one of your shows being advertised on television. Keep up the Good work!
It's always interesting to see what people consider obscure. I only knew two from the last one, but I've seen every one on this but Cat & Dog, lol! Keep up the good work dude, and thanks for the great content!
I am 46 now. I've been absolutely obssesed with Otherworld most of my life because it was one of those shows that I watched as a little kid, but they only aired it once. The internet didn't exist and none of my friends remembered it. I found it again in some forum in the first 2010s, describing the show, and someone provided me some download links, you know... It was one of those times when you think, "holy sht the time has really passed for this crap!" lol. But it still has got its charm to me, like other crapy shows like Logan's Run. PS: the 80's, an era where every show had to have a wild west and/or pop-rock music episode lol.
I loved What a Country! And Yakov. He was in Houston many years ago and I went to the comedy club specifically to see him. I've never done that before.
The only one of these that I remember is Otherworld, but the only episode I remember is the one where the kids form a band and pretend to have written exisiting pop music from earth. A few years ago when that movie Yesterday came out where the guy pretended to have written the Beatles music, I said: Hey, that's like that episode of Otherworld! But no one had any idea what I was talking about.
OH SNAP! I was wondering when you would get to Otherworld. I had watched the original run back in '85, but had no idea of it's heavy syndication. It's wild to see this here today because just the other day I was thinking about the episode where the kids sang old songs from Earth and the people of the new world flipped because they had never heard rock & roll. Weird the way things line up. I gotta say, though, Chopper Squad sounds like a title of a fictional show they would use in another show. Sitcom main star: "You don't recognize her?! She's the actress from Chopper Squad!" Sitcom sidekick: "Oh wow! She got to kiss Butch Deadlift!" Cue laugh track
I caught about half of Otherworld as a kid before the family decided to watch something else. Just caught the whole series here on YT and enjoyed all right.
You got me with Otherworld. I'm guessing I never heard of it because it had such a short run on CBS (one of only 4 channels we had until the mid 90s) and I didn't have USA Channel or SciFi until almost the 2000s.
0:16 I remember that show when it was on whoa I haven't anyone bringing up in years. 2:37 That's good to know Cecil thanks. 3:42 I believe I caught a few episodes of this show when the Sci Fl Channel aired them during the mid 90's interesting show. 7:08 Yes I thought she looked familiar?😛😆😍 You'll get no complaints out of me Cecil I always enjoy these special look on tv shows like this weather if they are obscured or not? Keep up the great work as always👍👍
I remember What a country and Home free. Never heard of the others. These are great videos. Some of the obscure shows you mention are great to see because then I can go , that's where I saw that i thought i dreamt it
Ok. You did it! You found 3 shows I’ve actually never heard of before. Home Free, Dog & Cat and Chopper Squad were completely unknown to me before this video
Hey Cecil by any chance have you ever come across a TV show about a bald psychic woman set in a post apocalyptic or dystopian future, possibly from the 70s, while researching have you? I caught the end of an episode once when I was younger and can't for the life of me find out what it's called. I originally thought it might have been that Star trek: Second phase until I learned it never got produced. It's been a mystery ever since but figured you'd be the go to guy for something like this.
1:43 I recognize a couple of the supporting actors from the Star Trek movies and series. The Hungarian guy played both God in Star Trek 5 and the Admiral in TNG's Best of Both Worlds and the Indian actor was briefly in Star Trek 4 as the Captain of the Yorktown.
Who the heck takes the time to complain about your videos? Are the upset they lost ten minutes of their lives? Yes, I've seen some of those shows, or heard of them. But often I forget they existed until you remind me. Love your videos!
I am kinda surprised you've not done a piece on "Something is out there". Both the movie and the series were rather good. Love your work BTW, keep it up :)
I'm familiar with _two_ of these. The first two, in fact. Or, three, if you include the British sitcom that inspired the American version. But you are very right, these shows, all of them, are very obscure. I like that you are covering them, obscure or not, because _no_ media should ever be lost.
Thanks for covering Otherworld. I only caught one or two episodes back when it first aired but liked it... couldn't remember it's name, so never looked it up to watch further episodes
I saw "What a Country" at the Height of Yakov's Fame (Ben Stiller did a skit about Yakov's Fall from Grace in Pop Culture on his "The Ben Stiller Show") and i READ about "Dog and Cat" in some book about Television series when i was a kid in the 80's
Well, I admit I am not familiar with these particular shows, even if I know some of the actors. I also admit normally there is at least one "Wow, I forgot I watched that!" moment in your usual Forgotten Shows videos that gets me excited, so don't listen to the haters. The whole point is that I forgot I watched Relic Hunter when it was out and was inspired to stream the old episodes, or that I knew that a show was based on a character from the Ultraverse because I read those comics back in the day. That's the joy of this series, so please keep it going and thank you!
Right, on the topic of obscure shows, I wonder if you could identify this one for me. I remember watching it back when I was living in Doha, Qatar as a kid, on one of the various channels that happened to run TV in English. The show appeared to be either Australian or from New Zealand (leaning more Australian) and it involved a group of kids who wind up transported to a strange land where guns were never invented, but instead people used these strange "Thundersuits" that fire balls of lightning, appearing to be for ceremonial combat. I only remember a couple of key plot points - one of the characters enters into a duel with said suits but his suit gets sabotaged by the bad guys and he loses, the bad guy sseek to learn gunpowder from one of the kids who just happens to know about it, and when they return to earth one of the kids uses a thundersuit to ward off gangsters cornering him in a street somewhere. For the life of me, I can't find this show anywhere, and have no clue what its' called or who made it. I know fully well I didn't just make it up.
Bocce Balls! If you hadn't shown a clip of Dog & Cat, my brain would have kept it safely hidden away in the "might need this later for trivia night" folder. Holy cow!! My dad loved that show. I think I was only 7 or 8 when it was on, but as soon as I saw a few clips, my brain went full "Hey! I know you can't remember what you had for dinner 47 minutes ago, but here's a vivid memory of you sitting on the couch with a cup of Kool Aid, an 18" GI Joe action figure and your Dad totally engrossed in THIS show??"
I never knew Yakov Smirnoff had a sitcom. I only remember him on TV from his appearances on Night Court. Otherworld sounds interesting. I probably would’ve watched it had it started in 1989-90.
I will agree with your closing statement, as yes, I am familiar with one of the shows, What A Country, and about it being obscure as well. Only reason I'm familiar with it is because dad had a few episodes on VHS he taped off of TV. So I will say, good job there. 😉 And thank you, did enjoy this.
I enjoyed this. FYI I knew 4 out of the 5 shows and was a fan of Otherworld. I may go down memory lane soon. I remember some dumb facts about Dog and Cat like Kim's character drove a VW Beetle but she'd put a race car engine in it (I think a Ferari's) so it went really fast. The only one I'd never heard of was the Australian predecessor of Bay Watch.
Thanks for another great list of forgotten TV shows, Cecil. Like most of the shows highlighted in your series, I had not heard of any of them. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of obscure TV shows I enjoyed, and I always look forward to your next episode to see if you cover them (like "Whoops!"👍). Either way, I love the work you've done on this series and don't let the complaints get to you.
@@Madbandit77 I know. I was just referencing that show as a surprise to me that Cecil covered it. I didn't want to actually give Cecil future titles to cover. He's got enough on his plate.
Every one of these lists makes me question how I watched so many TV shows in my youth because without fail, you cover some sitcom I watched as a kid, like What a Country.
Definitely obscure. I think I tripped over What a County and Otherworld while flipping through basic cable back in the day, had completely forgotten they existed.
What a Country instantly takes me back to being a pre-teen. Saturday afternoons I definitely watched when the weather was too rotten to play outside. Kids used to do that
Thankyou! I could never remember the name of Otherworld. It's been decades since I watched it, and I still think about it sometimes. Nobody I've ever talked to had ever heard of it. Honestly I wondered if it was just a weird dream I had as a child 😄😩. Now that I know it's on youtube, I'm going to watch it with my children. I'm so excited! I'm not crazy after all; this show really DOES exist!
I do remember What a Country and Other World. Norman Lear tried to make an American version of Mind Your Language before that. It was in the form of a back door pilot on an episode of Diff’rent Strokes.
I think you pretty much nailed obscurity this time - the only two shows I remember are OTHERWORLD and DOG AND CAT. OTHERWORLD was a science-fiction show, and at that point in time my then girlfriend, and I watched pretty much everything with science-fiction on television. DOG AND CAT I remember mostly because when I started seeing Kim Basinger show up in other roles, I was like "Her? Her acting stinks!" Also, a friend and I came up with a comedy sketch called "RAT AND WEASEL", based very loosely on the show.
I don’t care how obscure the shows you cover are, it’s always enjoyable to see you cover shows not a lot of people talk about.
Can't speak for everyone else but personally I really don't care how popular or obscure any of these or other shows were, I just love the channel and all your videos. Good job 👍

Wait, Matthew Perry was in a Sitcom together with Dan "Get her in the van" Schneider?!
DAFUQ?!
It might be that this channel attracts an audience that by its nature seeks out the obscure and forgotten. Still, it is also nice to have a guide.
Keep up the great work.
I used to like What A Country, but had completely forgotten it. I don't think I'd have ever remembered it without this video.
People are complaining about the content you put out?
Don’t listen to them please, your videos are excellent. I’ve watched a lot of obscure and forgotten movies and shows because of your spotlighting them. Keep doing what you want it’s why I keep watching!
I appreciate that! :)
Absolutely love these videos. I love the history of old failed TV shows. I'm from the UK so it's all obscure to me!
Thanks!
"I AM NOT A NUMBER I AM A FREE MAN!"
It's always interesting to see what people consider obscure. I only knew two from the last one, but I've seen every one on this but Cat & Dog, lol!
Keep up the good work dude, and thanks for the great content!
Thanks for watching!
She's the actress from Chopper Squad!"
Sitcom sidekick: "Oh wow! She got to kiss Butch Deadlift!"
Cue laugh track
7:08 Yes I thought she looked familiar?😛😆😍
You'll get no complaints out of me Cecil I always enjoy these special look on tv shows like this weather if they are obscured or not? Keep up the great work as always👍👍
I literally spent all day yesterday binging these videos, and subscribed. I love stuff like this.
Thanks for the sub!
I will tell you something I enjoy everything you put on here keep up the good work
I remember What a country and Home free. Never heard of the others. These are great videos. Some of the obscure shows you mention are great to see because then I can go , that's where I saw that i thought i dreamt it
i love this series. I usually have never heard of any of the shows featured.
Ok.
The Hungarian was played by the late George Murdock ("Breaker, Breaker!") while Vijay Amritraj ("Octopussy") played the Indian.
Thanks! Although I'm pretty sure I mentioned that one in an earlier video.
I fondly remember Dog and Cat, it was on Saturday nights after Starsky & Hutch. Loved her souped up VW Beetle!
I'm familiar with _two_ of these. The first two, in fact. Or, three, if you include the British sitcom that inspired the American version. But you are very right, these shows, all of them, are very obscure. I like that you are covering them, obscure or not, because _no_ media should ever be lost.
Thanks!
That plot synopsis for Otherworld sounds remarkably similar to Farscape.
If Farscape came out in the 80s, it would have ended up on this list. Thank God it didn't.
Thanks for covering Otherworld. I only caught one or two episodes back when it first aired but liked it... couldn't remember it's name, so never looked it up to watch further episodes
"Chopper Squad" was very popular in the UK.
Otherworld was a fun and cool show!
Chopper Squad is very well known and fondly remembered in Australia as is similar Aussie shows such as Patrol Boat and Police Rescue.
I love this series! Thank you so much for the content!
Just discovered your channel recently, i never heard of a single show on any vid (well, except for The Lone Gunmen)
Cecil already did Whoops!
Ha! Buddy, you almost got me again BUT I remember Otherworld. Thank you Cecil and don't ever stop because I thoroughly enjoy your videos. 🤘😎🤘
What a Country instantly takes me back to being a pre-teen. Saturday afternoons I definitely watched when the weather was too rotten to play outside. Kids used to do that
Great to see Chopper Squad get a mention! It was very popular in my home country (of course)!
Glad to help :)
@@GoodBadFlicks
We appreciate all of your hard work! Keep it up; we'll keep watching 😁
"Real linen napkins!" 😄😄😄
:)
I do remember What a Country and Other World. Norman Lear tried to make an American version of Mind Your Language before that. It was in the form of a back door pilot on an episode of Diff’rent Strokes.
Oh, I remember What a Country! My uncle, who used to write for The Tonight Show, knows Yakov.
I remember Otherworld. That would have been a great show nowadays or even in the 90s/early 2000s. It was probably too radical an idea for the 80s.
