"Jam a sandwich down her throat!" is the one that always makes me belly laugh because, even after decades of watching the episode, I always forget it's coming.
Not ashamed to say I'm still alive because of this show. Went through a major bout of depression for several years in the early-mid 90s, but a friend of mine would tape episodes each week for me, and I could sit and watch them several times over and laugh and laugh instead of thinking about darker stuff, at least for a while.
A late friend of mine introduced me to MST3K when we were college. As painful as some of the movies were, it is still one of my all time favorite shows. RIP Andrew. May you keep your eye on the sandwich in the sky.
Joel for sure summed up the take on the show to me in a nutshell. Mike, while for sure funny and a seemingly more polished presenter lacked a certain spark. Also, frankly, Mike is a bit of a Reactionary douche in his politics and social opinions as I have come to learn and, sorry, that's always gonna shave points off in my opinion.
Ok. Controversial pick, don't kill me... But Jonah is my favorite host. Joel right after, but I just like Jonah's dynamic, a bit different than the others.
As a guy that watched virtually every episode, both of the Joel and Mike era, of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 in college while they were on Netflix, I have to say that it's great to see, coincidentally, another favorite UA-cam channel that I've been watching since college cover this very beloved program. I'm glad to see that GoodBadFlicks loves this series as much as I do.
Ironically, GoodBadFlicks also looks at multiple films too that are either considered bad or overlooked and paints them in either a positive light or brings more attention to them.@@FreejackVesa
The Mitchell joke that never fails to crack me up is, Mitchell has had Linda Evans arrested for possession of marijuana, after spending the night with her. He then goes on a stakeout at Martin Balsam's house, parking his sedan on the street. Evans somehow finds him and writes "JERK!" on his windshield in red lipstick. Trace Beaulieu as Crow quips, "Word on the street is, you're a jerk!"
@emperortrevornorton3119 one day I might come across someone who will give a cold gravely response of "Neither, it's Jonah country" to which I will run to the car and tell my wife. "We need to get out of here! NOW!!!"

MANOS: The Hands of Fate is considered a cultural icon here in Texas. I'm not kidding - a few years ago, the State Fair had an exhibit on Texas's influence in film and television, and included such artifacts as one of Peter Mayhew's Chewbacca masks (he was living here in the Dallas area during the last few years of his life) and the original The Master robe.

@@AnnaMorozovaArknights1 no one i knew watched it but me. I think i discovered it on a thanksgiving. We had already eaten and most of the adults were watching football. It must’ve have been a host segment that caught my eye cuz i doubt some old movie playing with vaguely defined shapes at the bottom of the screen would have made me stop clicking thru the channels. Other than some holidays it rarely came on during the day so i would just set my Garfield alarm clock to get up just before midnight, sneak in the living room, and pop in a vhs and set it to record for 2 hours. Sometimes if i thought i could get away with it i would stay up and watch a bit. My parents didn’t watch it but they definitely knew i did. They didn’t seem to mind tho. They weren’t cool with me getting up late at night when i had school, but i was sneaky and determined so i would just try not to get caught. And that’s pretty much how it went until the Comedy Central run ended. I don’t think i caught many episodes when it went to sci fi but by then dvds were a thing and i started collecting box sets from places like suncoast movies in the mall. Remained a die hard fan, right up to the Netflix years… 😕
Holy Moly. I used to go to the Maverick Theater before I left California. They did a lot of really fun puppet versions of famous plays. Including my favorite "Hamlet Has No Legs". During Hamlet there is a play within a play, so they rolled out a row of seats and had Hamlet, his Father, etc. riff on the play MST3k Style. They also did a fun Plan 9 from Outer Space where they did "Special" Effects live via a miniature booth that would rear project saucers, graveyards, etc.
It’s thanks to shows like yours, MST3K and Red Letter Media that really inspired my love for cheesy B movies and shows. Something endearing about schlock and their creativity (or lack thereof)
My man you've been a favorite channel for years but being a huge MST3K fan you have outdone yourself. Thank you. Much looking forward to part two. Have a great day.
man nothing better in the early 00s than getting blazed and watching MST3K with friends. one of my favorite Mike episodes was overdrawn at the memory bank.
Holy crap, I literally JUST watched the 'Mitchell' episode of 'MST3K' right here on UA-cam less than 3 days ago! Thanks for explaining the backstory for some of these films. I always wondered about them! The 'Santa vs the Martians' & 'Santa vs the Devil' -episodes are STILL annual viewing for me, along with the 'Rifftrax' version of the 'Star Wars Holiday Special'! I hope to see more soon! Happy Holidays! =)
MST3K IS THE ULTIMATE MOVIE SHOW! A CLASSIC!!!You can't beat Joel , Mike the bots & the mads and all the crazy hilarious characters you got to see every show. I can't choose between Joel OR Mike because they both were, are & always will be the best. That show was lightning in a bottle and God I'm so glad I got to see it and experience it, AWESOME
MST3K was my childhood. I started watching from season 1 when it began airing on Comedy Central. Some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories are of watching the Turkey Day Marathon each year. Thanks for covering it on your channel.
Nice episode. Looking forward to part 2. I was a late fan of MST3K. I didn't start watching it until a friend introduced me to it on the Sci Fi Channel, so I started with Mike and didn't see any of the Joel episodes until later. I miss the good old days when they'd have 24 hour marathons of MST3K on Thanksgiving. That was great.
I've loved MST3K since I saw my first episode, Catalina Caper, after coming back to my dorm from a party. Pissed my roommate 7:01 off because I couldn't stop laughing. I regret nothing. So many great episodes and Mitchell has to be at the top of my list, but my favorite of the Mike era is The Girl in Gold Boots.
I recall how excited my uncles were every beer night that MSTEK is shown in our TV back in the day...which brought me nostalgia right after watching this video
MST3K got me throught the deepest, darkest depths of the pandemic, when, instead of being stranded in space, I was stranded at home watching a guy stranded in space. It seemed strangely appropriate.
Great idea. I really enjoyed SGDebris retrospective on the series & i look forward to next part. I have nothing but love & respect for Joel but I prefer the Mike era. But that era is only what it is because of what was learned from the early seasons. My favorite Joel episode is probably the Gamera episode. The song will be forever with me.
You really need to do an episode on TV Wheel. It was such an odd concept and if I remember correctly, it had so many big names like David Cross involved. No one ever talks about it, not even MST3K fans seem to know it existed.
I think the Mike led writing of the Joel era (Seasons 3 thru Mitchell) are some of the funniest tv that I've ever witnessed. I still go back to "I Accuse My Parents" fairly often
MST3K has done more to preserve bad movies than probably any other venue. As a kid in the 1970's, I saw quite a few of these movies on TV, including the Christmas staple of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians on a local station. Two decades later, MST3K came into our lives and my friends and I couldn't have been happier.
The Girl in Lover's Lane is my favorite Joel episode. Kevin singing the theme song, "Bigstupid," and Kerie "so very." Eegah is up there, Wild Rebels is great, as is Daddy-O and Ring of Terror. Joel has a unique, naive kind of face value humor that is just so enjoyable
On a future "forgotten" episode you should highlight "Mad Movies" that was on Nick at Night. It was nowhere near as funny as MST3K but I believe it actually predated it by a few years. It was where I first saw Night of the Living Dead at a very young age, possibly the reason it's cemented in my mind.
Great Idea for the series.. I did not start watching MST3K until the Mike years, and I prefer him, but credit there were a lot of great movies in Joel's run. Thanks for the video.
I remember seeing them live in Michigan back in 2012. I was working the third shift at the time and drove all night with some friends to get there. I was half asleep when I met the cast. Shook all their hands. Made a fool of myself in front of Trace Beaulieu. I wanted to tell him what a great actor he was. Anyone who can manipulate a puppet the way he does, instill it was such personality . . . That takes a lot of talent. Unfortunately, my sleep-deprived mind, coupled with being star struck, only allowed me to get the first six words out: “I think you’re a great actor.” Trace waited to see if there was more. When he realized there wasn’t, he said, “Oh. Thanks.” Handed me his autograph, and quickly turned to the next person in line. Still, a great time. 😅
I've seen bits and pieces of MST3K over the years, but I like what I've seen. One episode that I did see all the way through was the Rocketship X-M episode. Even though I enjoy that movie, the episode was hilarious. "Nice brains!" That line made me laugh beyond belief. I'll try to watch more when I can. I actually got a bootleg set last year that has all the episodes (minus two from the KTMA era) of the original run, mainly because it's the only way to get the complete series. So, yeah, when it comes to MST3K, I'm set for life. I just need to make some companions to monitor my mind.
I'm not going to lie, I tend to lean toward the Mike Nelson years. That era had some of the best and my favorite episodes- Werewolf, Zombie Nightmare, The Final Sacrifice, Soultaker, there's too many to list. However, Joel did do "Mitchell" which is another great episode. I should give his episodes more attention. That Ian Sera "It stinks" meme is hilarious. The Horror Geek know just where to put that in his movie reviews.
I didn't like the sci-fi years & season 7, they kinda ran too much of a plot in the host segments instead of making fun of the movies/shorts and the bots got very mean spirited and crude.
I feel you really should have started another series for MST3K. There's tons of MSTies all over the world still it's far from forgotten, you'd be hard pressed to find a show that still has a huge cult following all these years later.
Every few years I host a movie night where we watch the MST3K Mitchell as a drinking game. Just drink every time someone says Mitchell. No one has ever made it to the end, which is a good thing. If you drank for every Mitchell you’d probably get alcohol poisoning.
When I was very little I saw mst3k (I believe some of the sci fi channel episodes) on tv but could never find them again or even remember what the show was called to look it up. Then, years later in Highschool I found 4 episodes on dvd for rent at a Hollywood Video! It confirmed what I saw wasn’t a dream and reintroduced me to an amazing show!
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is now my favorite Christmas movie because of MST3K. I remember that movie floating around cable tv sometimes but I never watched it all the way through until it showed up on MST3K. I still say it's got the best movie Santa Claus. Some of the snarky things he says absolutely kill me. 😆
“Trumpy, you can do STUPID things!” One of my favorite MST3K lines ever.
"Jam a sandwich down her throat!" is the one that always makes me belly laugh because, even after decades of watching the episode, I always forget it's coming.
It's called evil kid.
Second only to the Gamera song.
Same
“Are you hiding a man in here?”
“Down, girl!”
"Why would anyone want to do that with Mitchell, Joel?" is one of the lines I remember often, lol. Great retrospective of the Joel years.
I liked MST3K, but I always wondered how he could eat and breathe and other science facts.
You should really just relax
It's just a show.

Remained a die hard fan, right up to the Netflix years… 😕
Torgo is forever etched in the cultural subconscious, thanks MST3K!
That sounds wonderful!
Loved this series growing up and still do. Like both hosts for their different styles
Grew up with MST3K. I’ll always incorporate “Deeeep Hurting” into my everyday life
Goddam ❤perfect timing as I've been binge watching MST3K since October ❤thank you ❤❤😊😊😊
i love MST3k. it has so much nostalgia value
It’s thanks to shows like yours, MST3K and Red Letter Media that really inspired my love for cheesy B movies and shows. Something endearing about schlock and their creativity (or lack thereof)
I'm in good company then!
@@GoodBadFlicks Hell yeah, Cecil! You’re a legend!
I enjoy Kathy Ireland's Alien From LA.She's probably the only model I've seen acting, alongside Pauliina Porizkova, who really tries.
My man you've been a favorite channel for years but being a huge MST3K fan you have outdone yourself. Thank you. Much looking forward to part two. Have a great day.
No matter what I'm feeling, I can never go wrong watching an episode or two of MST3K
Same, its my "comfort food" tv
@@GoodBadFlicks the best comfort food
man nothing better in the early 00s than getting blazed and watching MST3K with friends.
one of my favorite Mike episodes was overdrawn at the memory bank.
Fantastic work as always but Great Guidance Ro-Man may want to have a word with you!
I got to see an episode of MST in an actual theater once at a college movie festival, it was great!
Seen every episode multiple times! Perhaps the greatest show ever made even.
Merry Christmas to you Cecil. Thank you for everything this year.
For anyone that doesn't know, they have a twitch channel where they stream a bunch, if not all the old episodes.
Man you really picked out some of the very best episodes for this set!
I recall how excited my uncles were every beer night that MSTEK is shown in our TV back in the day...which brought me nostalgia right after watching this video
Thank you for another enjoyable video, Sir. I've been a big fan of MST3K for many years. I'm glad to know that you are too!
MST3K got me throught the deepest, darkest depths of the pandemic, when, instead of being stranded in space, I was stranded at home watching a guy stranded in space. It seemed strangely appropriate.
MST was my first stumbling into,” I don’t know what this is but I’ll watch it at 1am as a kid” and enjoyed every minute.
Thank you so much for this. I watch mst3k or rifftrax almost everyday, still
Yes! God I can watch that Mitchell episode again and again. A buddy of mine and I always quote lines from that. Nice job man!
Great idea for an ep in this series! Movies that appeared on my favorite show of all time.
The Comedy Channel episodes of MST3K hold a special place in my heart.
Wow, these are probably my favorite Joel episodes!
Cannot wait for the second and hopefully third part for this series!
"Mad Movies with the LA Connection" was done in 1985, and several episodes can be found on UA-cam.
Mike Nelson met Joel in the Soul Taker episode. "I know who you are. I am wearing your tube socks."
Great Idea for the series.. I did not start watching MST3K until the Mike years, and I prefer him, but credit there were a lot of great movies in Joel's run. Thanks for the video.
4 of those are in my top 5, though I would swap out Santa for "Cave Dwellers" or "Egah"
I’ll always remember the line from the MST3K movie “self cleaning mutant. Leaves only the fresh scent of pine.”
1959 Santa Claus I watched yesterday. Perfect timing. 😆
I had totally forgotten about Max getting the bum's rush constantly. Thank you Santa!
That episode premiered on my birthday. Oh wow! Even better😃👍
‘Mitchell’ is peak Joel to me.
I feel you really should have started another series for MST3K. There's tons of MSTies all over the world still it's far from forgotten, you'd be hard pressed to find a show that still has a huge cult following all these years later.
Season 13 came out in 2022 along with the Gizmoplex website which includes most of the episodes from seasons 1-10.
Great idea for an episode, loved it and can't wait for next week's!
"GO PACKERS!! WHOO PACKERS!"
Love that dopey internet guy. He's one of the best youtubers out there.
Every few years I host a movie night where we watch the MST3K Mitchell as a drinking game. Just drink every time someone says Mitchell. No one has ever made it to the end, which is a good thing. If you drank for every Mitchell you’d probably get alcohol poisoning.
The scene in Master Ninja, where a crate falls on a dock and I think Crow is screaming in the background still makes me cry from laughter
One of my favorite Joel episodes is Sidehackers. Joel's song is hilarious!!
I'll never get over seen Lee Van Cleef as a goddamn Ninja.
I bought an MST3K T-shirt for $18 in the year 1999. It was well-made. "Extraordinary build quality". It has not fallen apart in the last 22 years.
