Really Easy Way to Add Basic Animations To Metahumans in Unreal Engine 5 and 5.1

- Turns out there is a very simple way in unreal engine 5 to retarget animations from the Mannequins to Metahumans. So if you used to struggle finding animations and having to find third party programs to relatively simple things, you don't need to anymore. Follow this short video to add basic animations to metahumans in Unreal Engine 5 and above.

As a beginner in ue5 this really helps me a ton! After trying numerous ways including building a new IK retargeter and trying to set root and set all the different bones through (New from selected), or even trying to do so using motion capture data with no success.. (My character was floating with all animations not like the manny..)

While in the editor the metahuman stands in the animation pose but with no movement so I assume the retargeting worked. When I press play the metahuman goes back to a T-pose though. Do you know what it could be or what i could troubleshoot otherwise? New to anims, thanks!

Actually you just need to do the step at 4:59 till 5:39, you dont need to do anything else and the animations will be there on cinematics/Animation tab. ;)

This was really amazing. It's so hard sometimes when people who make tutorials have been using UE for a long time, and don't know all the new things that it can do.
I understand your pain Rick. In general it's a bit challenging to find good sources to learn just because it's a relatively new tool and it's always evolving.

Hey. If it's minor adjustments while retargeting, you don't use this method I show here. Please take a look at the retargeting from mixamo animations to see the process. In the process of fully retargeting you can adjust the bones to make it look better. That's as far I know but I am in no way an expert animator.

Hey, yeah version changes always create some issues. It's a bunch of free animations. I used them in my other video on adding custom animations to the metahuman.

hi, i m using metahuman chatbot, the animation is ok, but when it talk, the body move but the head is detached, is because my meta is med size? maybe need to use tall?
Hi,
It is hard for me to debug this just from the comment. However just know that metahumans have face animations and body animations. Those two are separate and sometimes a freeze happens on the face if there is no animation defined for it.

yes i understand, i follow the SDK tutorial so i have a meta with a chat widget, the meta jump in loop when you play, but when she reply trhough google voice the body jump but the head move the lips but is in a blocked position, it s week that i search for a solution .-. @@SipAndCode7

Do you mean to make a certain animation? If it's for a game for example you could use animation blueprint instead .
Do we have to export or can we just use the Animations Listed? I have like 100+ I need to make work haha, so exporting 100 one by one would be a pain.
Haha yeah that would be pain indeed. You don't have to them one by one. You can just choose them all using shift or Ctrl and export all the animations together. That's what I do when I have to do export.
Can you do tutorial on how to make metahuman our player character? cant seem to find tutorial that actually works well. i end up with some parts animating and others dont.... and also there is hand skelet problem usually
