I was in tears with the majesty of the whole thing. I married him a few years later, but Covid took him from me at the beginning of this year. Watching this performance brings back so many beautiful memories. I am in tears again, thank you
I love the drummer's little grins throughout this performance. He's like, "I can't believe I get to do this for a living." It's a testament to the brilliance of songwriting that someone like him, who plays the same songs every night, still experiences the joy of these infectious songs sung by unparalleled talent. Thank you, NPR, and yes, whoever booked them to come on. Ah-ho! 🌍
And that’s Juan Carlito Mendoza. He’s one of the top drummers in the world, so the fact that this blows his mind is a testament to the music itself and the art of their performance. They are all phenomenal at their craft.

Its more than talent and passion, we sing loud and expressive for our voices to be heard and for our ancestors who didnt get the chance to. Its more than art, its community and culture all packed into one

I was sitting in the 6th row from the front of the play and I can't even express the emotions that surfaced with this performance. Gets me every time I hear the music. Beautiful.....absolutely beautiful (gonna go cry now...again)
When the motherland speaks , I listen. The spirit of this show & the music feels like a love letter from the ancestors. It really endures & never fails to move my soul! Thank you!❤
I just saw this in Chicago tonight. Baby....Rafiki hit that first note ( show ain't even started yet) And I was crying 😭😂 This show was beautifully executed. The costumes, the singing..... I'm going again! WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what happened to me when I saw it, tearing up at the first note, crying during "They Live in You". The puppetry was magical. Such a beautiful show. ❤️
Ive had the PRIVILEGE to see this show in Ny on broadway and… trully, i burst jnto tears the opening song and kinda stayed in tears, joy and laughter the whole show … the circle of life is MOVING in person and coupled with the huge animal puppets it overwhelms the senses in the best way. Im so happy this tiny desk is now available to everyone!!!!
Same. Im South African and saw it last December in NYC- havent been back home since moving to the States and I just felt so emotional and shed a few tears when they sing the first lines
I advise everybody who has the opportunity to go see it to see it live! I saw it when it first opened and man is it fantastic! And the puppets bring an extra sensory feel to it.
Just incredible how robust and beautiful the sound is with just 8 people from the show. No wonder the actual Broadway show with a bigger cast just blows your mind and warms your heart the entire show ❤ thank you sincerely NPR for this absolute treat for the heart, ears, mind and soul!!!
That opening gave me goosebumps!! I loved the shout outs and the history and as a designer/seamstress, it was so incredible to see the respect they have for their costume designer. I really hope I get to see this show in my lifetime.
The costumes are INCREDIBLE. I hope you one day can see them in person and the incredible show!!! We went on a day trip when I was a senior in high school with my Chorus, but it took like two years of fundraising and we got seats all the way in the back but it was amazing! No matter where you sit in the theatre they make you feel apart of the show.
I'm so happy I just landed on this Lion King forever this cast is so beautiful I love tiny desk I'm so happy they did this you can understand the words and you're not confused and the music is just perfect thank you Africa and South Africa

Fifth time seeing this and still I can't stop crying. There's something in "Circle of life" that moves me, emotionally. My body vibrates at the sound of that ancestral singing.
I have to give it to them. They were fantastic on stage. Went to see The Lion King Musical just 2 weeks ago and it was worth every penny. Very beautiful 😍😍😍!!! I’d watch it over and over again.

she sent chil down my spine and make me goosebumps all over my body with just 1 note
Simba and Nala have something burning! Omg
The way they look at each other...something is definitely burning 🔥🔥🔥

Congratulations on 25 years, Lion King. Such powerful performances. Bravo 🎉
The chills they gave me when they started circle of life!💜
I just saw this in Chicago tonight.
Baby....Rafiki hit that first note ( show ain't even started yet)
And I was crying 😭😂
This show was beautifully executed. The costumes, the singing.....
I'm going again! WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!
😂😂😂😂 something that would happen to me. I was boohoo crying during CoCo the music and the colors always get to me and Lion King just downs something to my spirit
That's exactly what happened to me when I saw it, tearing up at the first note, crying during "They Live in You". The puppetry was magical. Such a beautiful show. ❤️
Same, I was in literal tears from the first note, was an emotional rollercoaster between sheer awe and nostalgia for sure
Me too!!!
Are you allowed to stand at the show? I want to go this winter but I know this song brings me to my feet anytime I listen on UA-cam
Wow… beautiful! Their voices are so angelic; brought chills to unhappy day❤❤❤
Shadowland blew me away! It's my favorite instrumental piece from the movie, but hearing it sung is just wow
Me too! I want to find a full length of shadowland. She was amazing
The Lion King has the BEST opener of any musical in the theatre.
This is what heaven sounds like ❤
I just can't enough of such harmony, melody and pitch. I get chills every single time.
My gosh the unity and energy! Definitely on of my favorite from your series!
They could sing anything and make it sound like a masterpiece! This is from their soul!
Just incredible how robust and beautiful the sound is with just 8 people from the show. No wonder the actual Broadway show with a bigger cast just blows your mind and warms your heart the entire show ❤ thank you sincerely NPR for this absolute treat for the heart, ears, mind and soul!!!

It's evening here In ZAMBIA but after hearing that NAAAAAA- the sun immediately started rising
I cried at the movie during the original release, I cried when I saw the stage production and now this.
This was absolutely beautiful.
That opening gave me goosebumps!! I loved the shout outs and the history and as a designer/seamstress, it was so incredible to see the respect they have for their costume designer. I really hope I get to see this show in my lifetime.
Where are you located? Anywhere near NYC?
@@PeachesYancy 2 hrs away from NYC. Philly.

The first show I’ve ever seen on Broadway and I still remember all the emotions I felt throughout the entirety on the show. The wonder and the awe, most of all!!! It is such a genius work. ❤ Watching this is like living it all again and it’s wonderful. Thank you!! Long live The Lion King!
It was the first broadway show I ever saw, too!!! Thanks for sharing that!
