That was the best method I have seen to remove the old grips.
I've been blowing them off with air pressure. This is much SAFER- GREAT channel!
I've been using acetone with a grip removal tool for years in removing golf grips without destroying them. Sometime, it wasn't easy! This time was the worse in trying to remove a paddle board putting grip. I could not get it to budge. I came across your video recommendation to use grip solvent which I did and it couldn't have been easier. After 25 years of struggling, I have now found a new method of removing golf grips! Many thanks to you, sir!!!!!
Thanks for taking the time o make the video. I just put new grips on with ease.
Super fast and clean grip removal. This is the best method I've seen yet. Thanks.
Great vid. This is almost exactly how I remove grips. The Golfworks tool is well worth the 💰!
Best golf club repair tip channel on UA-cam! I like to put the club in a vice vertically with the handle down and move the removal tool around the grip. Have a drip pan underneath to catch solvent. Try your best to have the removal tool over the grip tape when first slide into the grip. Always love your videos and keep the great content coming!
Great video! Used this technique removing my grips, worked out well. Instead of the special grip removing tool I found an old barbecuing long handled spatula laying around to use. By removing the spatula flat part all was left was a small flat landing with rivet holes. Filing the hard edges to give it a hopefully non scratching end. Also bent the handle side bar to off set it away from the golf shaft.
I have the tool and it works great, but your technique is far better than I used. Thanks for sharing.
A hacksaw blade works great for getting tape residue out of the grip -- the small teeth grab the tape without damaging the inside of the grip
I do mine the same way with the exact tool. Good investment. Saved about 300 grips so far.
As always, very informative. This will definitely speed up my next grip removal.
👍
Yep - I agree. Until now, my grips became a sacrifice as it didn't even dawn on me that the grip could be removed intact.
Thanks mate!
I like this method, tried it with the hanger and it works so fast.
Awesome Tip 👍🏼 , I've Had that Tool For Grip Removal but Never used it 🤦🏻♂️, Much Easier Way for Grip Removal And Money Saving !!!
I like that idea of the paper towel. I've always used a paint pan but the towel has to be easier. Thanks!
Love the technique! Was putting off buying a grip removal tool because I thought you just shoved it straight down. Did not think of the spinning.
I've got an older grip removal tool with a wooden handle that I bought from Golfsmith back in the 1990s, and I've been using this method to remove grips that I've wanted to keep, but I've had to do it in the kitchen sink. I like the paper towel method, think I'll try it next time.
Worked super well. 6 putter grips in about 20 minutes. The flatcat grip was very stubborn but I got it. Thanks for tip with paper towel 👍
Was going to ask if you can get pistol or other putting grips off. Want to save an original Cameron grip this is a great vid. Thanks for the comment.
I've done both methods of grip removal, bent coat hanger & $25 GolfWorks tool. The GolfWorks tool is so much faster. Recently switched all of my grips, GolfPride TV +4 mids, Driver down to PW, midsize TourVelvets on my wedges. For removal I put a folded rag inside a 2 gal. bucket on the floor, a bit more leverage for the longer clubs.
Excellent method to removing the grips Thanks
That is easy!! Great video and I will try that next time.
Super easy. Great video!
Thanks , have bladed for years, but not heated them before removal, just heated the tape after making easy to scrape off the shaft. Will now heat before also.
Great stuff Gabe…I actually use a BBQ Skewer that has the identical shape as that without the offset…works well.
Thank you so much, great tip, i did not know how to use my tool, i was trying to use it without the solvent.
I like the tool you have. It works great.
Good stuff, thx. You’re good dude.
Recently acquired several sets of clubs with OG leather grips. I know cra cra…
Some in good shape just dry. Do you have any Ideas tricks of trade to restore/save all leather grips?
Wilson staff & Top Flite, I love blades
✌️out
Thank you. The trick is to spin it around. I have the similar remover but still had a hard time removing the grip because I just kept shoving it down instead of spinning it.
Been doing that for years. A good way of doing it
Great video! You are the best!
I've been looking for just this. This will save me $130.
Very informative. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my God.😲 total game changer👏
Excellent tip!
Thank you! Awesome video.
Interesting!!! I will have to try this. I started blowing grips on a few years ago to be able to switch grips easily. Not using solvent or tape. Works well for shorter clubs but grips move a bit on longer ones.
Very good technique!
Beautiful.. Thank you very much.
Hmmm....I did just learn something. I do the air compressor method, and it usually does the trick. However, I never thought of heating the grip. I bet that will help with the stubborn one.
This is brilliant, cheers
Great tip again
I use a hacksaw blade to remove residue and smaller pieces of tape that I fumbled while removing the grip. It works the best in my opinion. I haven't tried a longer bolt tho. Yet but I will
Dental syringes with the curved tip work great for getting the solvent under the grip and not spilling a bunch of it.
Exactly what I do as well and the curved nozzle end means virtually no mess. 👍👍
Amazing tip!
Just curious. I just regripped my 5-PW with CPX (midsize) grips. I like them alot so far. My question is should I put the CPX grips on my gap, sand, and lob wedge as well? I have tour velvet (standard) on those wedges. Am I just playing mind games with myself telling myself I hit the wedges better with standard tour velvets, or should you always put the same grips on all your clubs? Thanks.
Thanks! Been using air compressor and have many grips blow apart lol.
I’ve used a wire hanger for the last 3 or 4 years and it finally broke! I’m definitely getting one of these for it’s benefit of being more rigid. The wire hanger definitely bent a handful of tomes and caused some headache, so this seems well worth the buy! Love your videos! 🤙
I paid £45 for the same removal tool here in the UK!
Worth it though if ya always experimenting with different grips…. 👍
Great vid, simple technique. Sad to think that 2-3 grips really is pushing $25 USD these days! I remember as a kid getting Golf Pride "Victory Grips" for 89 cents each and re-gripped 1-2 times per year.
Lol I remember years ago dropping a couple of clubs into the proshop before going out to the driving range and on returning charged £5 for 2 fitted golf pride tour wrap grips.Recently I dropped by the local Golf store and asked about a new Grips for my clubs and he said they're £2 a club But what he meant was that is the fee for fitting, them. The grips were £9each.
Even the Fake ones on eBay are £3 each
Shiett mang a supa stroke putta grip costs $45
@@matt7iron
And Fake SuperStroke off ebay is under $10 I just fitted one to a putter for someone TBH there isn't $35 difference.
Yep 👍🏿 😊Tried it and saved $$$$$
I completely concur with the removal tool, I made one from wire hanger it worked but it's nothing like the real deal, now here's my question I also have a tape scraper for graphite shafts now exactly how does one sharpen that bad boy! thanks in case you answer or do a tutorial .. enjoy your content.
Dremel tool
Great video. 👍👍
Have 2 shafts. I'm cutting down my older steel driver shaft to experiment. Cutting it from 45 to 42.5 inches and adding 14g to the head with a jumbo max grip. But I'm getting anxious before the new grip comes in and want to go ahead with the process. Going short heavy regular flex steel shaft and a long light graphite stiff flex. I retired the regular about a year ago was too long. But I don't want to go cutting around on the graphite shaft. I'm hoping a little more weight shortened will be good for keeping me in the fairway. I average 275 off the tee. But even if my numbers drop to 260 with it I'd be happy
This is way better and safer than the old needle injected solvent and twist method.
A friend used the air compressor method and employed a metal vacuum cleaner tube cut to length to keep grips from exploding. Worked well for him.
I use that method too. In the time he did that 1 grip I could do 3. So quick and easy.
I use a small paint fill bottle to squeeze the solvent between the shaft and tool. Uses far less solvent and easier to pin point the solvent
Can you give a suggestion on what work bench you have or use? Specifically looking at the workbench in your old studio/shop with the vice grip on it?
That one was a custom build done by my father in law and me. It was probably 9ft x 3ft.
Great idea
A long thin flathead screwdriver & rubbing alcohol pretty much does it. I always use air compressor and usually remove tape altogether. Haven’t used tape in 20 years!
This is the method I use for removing grips. Keep the rag or paper towel handy for when you re-grip to catch the excess solvent from running down the shaft and onto the grip.
Great am not going to waste more grips now🎉
The golfworks tool is the best I've used in 40 yrs. Don't push down too hard ,it can go through the end cap.
You can get that tool at harbor freight too, you would just have the sand the edges and put and little belt by the handle, it's the windshield removal tool 👍
Very nice!
Hi AJ. For some reason I can’t send you a message on the elite fit golf website, so I’ll ask my question here……what is the best/most adequate build tape to use for gripping clubs. I’ll be re-gripping my set on the weekend for the first time (using compressed air) and want to build up the grips. Thanks for your help. And thanks for the UA-cam content. Love your videos…..I’ve learned so much. Thanks from Australia. All the best. Matt.
Thanks. Just standard 2 inch wide masking tape is all you need.
Thanks very much.
Nice video. Any tips for extra long Superstroke putter grips?
Those will often need a syringe to save them. SuperStrokes and Winn grips are always tough.
I use a 20 gauge shot gun bore cleaning brush. Pulls all of the old tape out if there is any left inside of a .60 grip. 20 gauge has an outside diameter of .615. I switched to a .410 gauge for a .58 grip. It a little to small but it still works.
Bingo! I was actually thinking about the wire hosel cleaning tool I use which is only 3-4 inches long and wondering about a wire brush that is a foot long. Thank you.
Very nice advice! I'm using an airpistol with a tube over the grip - have you tried that?
I am crap when it comes to the air removal. Currently 2 for 10 in attempts even using tubes etc. I just stick with the v tool I show here. There I am batting .950!
Cool thanks
nice , thank you
Loving your Channel. I have a problem and I thought you might be the guy to solve it. I have a Super Stroke Putter Long Putter grip, the kind like Rickie Fowler is using, and I have a piece of shaft stuck inside the grip about halfway down all the way to the butt of the grip. The grip is new, so I would like to save it. Any ideas on getting the metal shaft out of the grip. Thanks in advance, keep on doing what you are doing, great information.
The shaft is broken off inside the grip?
@@EFGMC Yes, I put a long shaft extension in the putter to try it out. When I took the grip off, the extension came off also and stayed inside the grip.
I have a gripping station and use the hooked knife to get the grip off. Its quicker BUT I think I will use the heat gun you have suggested which makes a whole lot of sense, first. So thanks for the tip. PS This is only half of the equation. You probably should have shown the viewers how to install the new grip too.
I've got a bunch of regripping videos on my channel. Here is one of the newer ones.
ua-cam.com/video/wWlc0mUNy1A/v-deo.htmlsi=5ebdf3KxQELEcAGM
@@EFGMC Big thanks and will check this out. I have been doing this for a long time . The one thing that I would really like is an air compressor to blow the grips on and off but thats way too expensive. Again, Thanks.
I've always just used a syringe 3 or 4 holes twist the grip a little to spread the solvent and the grip slides off never had a issue
right on 100%
Great!!!!!
I purchased one of the grip removal tools ($51 in Canada). I am a novice at this. Will this work with JumboMax Ultralight grips or are they too stiff? Thank you for doing these videos for us.
Jumbomax or similar with a harder cap will be difficult to use that.
Exactly how I've done it for the last 40 years.
Nice. What about a Jumbomax grip? The top of the grip has a solid foam tip that is very difficult to slide this tool in. Any tips for those?
Solvent with a needle injector and compressed air.
@@MrHazz0thank you!
If you have a stationary tub to use, place the butt end of grip in and spin it inside the drain slot while using grip tool. This way there’s no mess and the grip won’t slide out.
I have used a similar method for over ten years. This method is superior to the traditional needle method in my opinion.😊
A coworker used the needle type and it broke off and stabbed himself in his thumb. He got gangrene and lost his thumb
@@FRANKWOOLF2 That is the most awful story. Very sorry to hear that
I still find a syringe and thinners works easy, just inject in a few spots and then twist the grip off with no tearing or stretching and no damage to the shaft.
I used to use syringes when I was younger but the risk of stabbing myself always worried me. Didn't want to inject myself with grip solvent😮
I prefer to use water and dish washing liquid.
Makes it nice and slippery.
With grip removal tool, it slides right off with no solvent wasted.
The only problem I occasionally encounter is grip tape coming off inside the grip.
We do big volume. Compressed air is so much quicker. Not without some fails though.
Say you just want to shorten the club and put the grip back on. Will the tape adhere a second time or do you need to remove it and replace?
It usually will if it doesn't get torn up during removal. Let it dry and see if it's still tacky, then you know.
Just buy one of those tools..Amazon has them $19 for one or a box of 2 for $25 ….they work great 👍🏼👍🏼
Does this method work on cord grips? I know they don’t work with the blow off method, curious if they do with this approach.
Yes, this will work probably 9 out of 10 times.
How do you feel about the fiber clear double sided tape compared to the white tape?
I hate removing it, always messier.
I use a syringe, inject a little bit of mineral spirits behind the grip, twist and pull
My problem is that the tip of the tool can sometimes dig down and lift sections of the tape. This has the potential for problems if the tape isn’t removed and actually removing 5he rape if you go that route. There’s an art(luck??) of using just the right amount of solvent balanced by the right speed of insertion and turning.
You should give credit to Mr SGame for teaching you that method!🤣🙏
?
U look like Jeff from superstore
Does this method work with Winn grips? They don't "stretch" as much as rubber grips.
No. Those don't have enough give to them.
Can you put a Mitsubishi MMT 70R parallel shaft into TM P 790 heads (2018 or 2019)?
Yes, just need to sand down the tip or ream out the hosel. Personally I prefer to sand down the tip to fit.
@@EFGMC how much for 7 clubs?
You are near Atlanta correct?
@@pebblebeach65 Email me and I can give you details.
adam@elitefitgolf.com
I use wd40 same trick same tool 😊👌⛳️
You prefer this method to the air compressor, or inflator?? If so, why? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both methods? Thanks.
I've done the air compressor method - it works. But this method is very simple and quick requiring only hand tools, so you if you don't have shop air or a compressor handy it's a valid alternative.
The worst thing about the air compressor method is breathing the solvent vapor . Not good if you do a lot of grips.
Grips installed with air shoulder be removed with air. Grips installed with tape and solvent I go with this method.
@@EFGMC I was removing grips with solvent and air . Putting a short piece of an old bag tube to avoid grips exploding. Then I got the tool you showed today. Most of the time it’s very easy , and a lot cleaner. I repurpose a lot of old clubs ( some may say junk ) and trying to save a mature grip to match the set is sometimes the goal.
@@Otis790 I've never needed solvent when removing with air. Just air seems to work fine as long as the grip is fully seated on the shaft, don't wanna use air if it is stuck halfway or something.
Does the tool scratch the paint on the shaft?
I've never had that issue.
Can the tape be reused or does it need to be replaced?
Replace it with 2-way, as the old tape no longer has the sticky side to hold the grip
Does this method work for removing chunky putter grips?
If you mean Superstroke or similar then its possible but likely will ruin the grip. Any grip with multiple layers will be much more likely to tear during removal.
Air compressor is quick and fast
Ok to reuse the tape in a pinch?
Beware that when using the tape that still on the shaft! Use a lot of solvent and I mean a lot or u will be blowing the grip off with u compressor because the grip will be stuck 1/2 way on! Voice of experience talking here!
