After this video Mike sold and installed four Yale nexTouch locks.
Excuse the dark humor, we deal with crackheads every day and you have to be upbeat with the tragic situations or it can bring you down too.
The Yale Nextouch is an interesting product. I haven't been a fan in the past of the Yale electronic locks. However, a customer required several locks for public/customer washrooms and the Yale Lock meet the requirements and price point. The customer-specific reason is they want a restroom lock so that the junkies do not get into the washroom and shoot up. Welcome to the West coast and one of our biggest problems in public washrooms is junkies overdosing in washrooms. Mostly we install deadbolts with the displayed privacy function. However, we have a lot of clients and customers who want a form of access control with key over-ride.
At the end of the day, customer needs some kind of accountability of who goes into the bathroom, but it's just not left open. The customer can just enter a number to unlock it to let them. But because it's a restroom, the only way you're going to lock a door with something like this would be to put a barrel bolt on the door or another deadbolt.
The Yale Nextouch has a "Privacy mode." The customer closes the door and holds the "Privacy mode" button a voice from the locks states "Privacy Mode Enabled." So now anybody from outside has no access, no matter what pin number is being used from the outside, it will not let you in because here you're inside it will always tell you that somebody's trying to get in, but it won't allow them to pin their way in. Now the only time this is disengaged, it's not because you pull the handle to open the door, but when the door swings open. The lock resets back to a storeroom function.
The lock is a heavy-duty design and ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certification. Good lock for, Office doors, Restrooms, storage closets, or a scalable solution for a multi-family, retail or corporate property. The lock is upgradable access control to wireless ZigBee / Z-Wave or Data-on-Card technologies as system requirements change and grow.
Again, this is very simple. It's a pin with a code with a key override. You have to install the door sensor to enable the "Privacy Mode." Presently, no master pin code over-ride, to open if someone is inside would require the key to over-ride the pin code function to open the door.
In conclusion, the price point is very, very good. The lock appears to be quite a heavy-duty unit. Normally, I would probably recommend the NDE but it does not have the pin code function. One problem is the user has to hold that button down for three seconds to enable the "Privacy Mode Function." The unit does come with a sticker you can put on the door or lock on how to use it.

It makes so much sense. If I am home and wants to disable the keypad, I can set it on the privacy mode.
These are also a great idea in institutional locksmithing applications such as hospitals where we can't have a secondary locking system even a barrel bolt in case someone gets injured in the restroom. I wish it wasn't Yale manufacturing it since their grade 1 stuff is all garbage now, but i'm glad they're available. I really hope others will make better options soon.
Schlage has a new ND Electronic Deadbolt but it has no "key overide." The software is super easy to use and encripted bluetooth.
Being a hospital locksmith I am very restricted on where deadbolts may be used and there's always a good chance that even if it's allowed this year it may not be next time codes are written. Also the hospital I work for requires all doors to have key override in case a combination lock fails. But thank you very much for the advice I will check that lock out to see if there's anywhere I can use it.
Where is the other review on the keyless Yale look you mentioned in the beginning of this video
If I install this on a door to the house from a garage, will I be able to lock it from inside the house? Does it auto lock? Will I need the privacy module to lock it from the inside? Also if I did want to upgrade the cylinder to a Assa Abloy which model should I pick up (100cv1, 2803 or 3803). Thanks in advance.
Michael Fernandes Some models can be programmed to auto-lock. The model in the video can be programmed as a “store room” function, always locked. Privacy stops someone using a code. Assa Abloy can be upgraded to most of their models.
Note: Software is constantly upgraded with new features.
Mr. Locksmith thank you Sir. Would you recommend getting the touch screen over the push button? Also which Abloy cylinder would you suggest for the model you have here?
Michael Fernandes First, I am not a fan of Yale Electronic Locks. For Commercial applications I prefer the Schlage CO-100 or AD series. For the exact cylinder # go to your Assa Abloy Dealer and they can give you an exact part number.
Mr. Locksmith thank you very much for your advice here. Much appreciated. Please continue your great work. I for sure have gained a lot by watching your videos.
I work in an emergency department in PA and unfortunately, we are experiencing a very similar overdose epidemic. It's not just a west coast problem. Great video. I just bought a new house and am wondering if anything other than a frame-reinforced steel door with Abloy Protec 2s will do the job? The Schlage electronic locks just look too easy to me. Thanks.
Abloy Protec 2 with Mag Plate door reinforces and Strike plate will do the job. I like the Schlage Sense Electronic lock and integrating it with AppleHome (future videos soon).
Thank you so much! Love your videos. Any thoughts on the Door Devil offering?
Been selling these for quite a while now.
What's the price for the lock?
I would recommend this to anyone
What is the best lock for front and back doors?
Mechanical Locks: Abloy Protec 2, Schlage Primus or B660 Deadbolts
Electronic Locks: I like almost any lock made by Schlage. Just playing with the Schlage Sense and AppleHome.
over hear in the uk they have just released the YALE CONEXIS L1 SMART LOCK i don't know if it available over in states but it seams to bet getting good reviews
looks nice
How difficult is this lock to pick?
With the factory cylinder very easy to pick but you can upgrade the cylinder to an Abloy, Medeco or Primus.
whats your favorite access control?
Jean Steven My favourite Access Control is almost anything from Schlage Residential and Commercial. Reliable and durable and great products.
@@24hrMrLocksmith My old Schlage manual keypad deadbolt has worked flawlessly for over 10 years. I'm hoping I haven't made a mistake replacing it with the August controlled Yale Assure LS ...eek!
Forget the gimiky stuff, make an unbreakable and unpickable close lock , simple really ????? Isn't it???
I have 1 for sale brand new in the box at half price of retail
I don’t think the humor about people overdosing was needed.
not idiot proof because you need to provide instructions on how to lock it
Can't Fix Stupid!
If you've not been told "hit the little black circle to lock the door" what exactly clues you in to that, as someone who's never seen the lock before? Nothing... You might tap it, you might not hold it long enough... Why not just a red pad that says "Lock" on it, that you only need to press, not hold? Seems like this isn't user friendly for the given use-case you've demonstrated...
The bald guy is awkward, talks too much and has nothing of value to add. Do your homework if your going to do a video.
User interface is not very intuitive and I suspect deaf people wouldn't appreciate the lack of visual indicator. :P
Thanks for the content but the 'humour' in this one extremely insensitive and totally unprofessional. Pull this one and lose the 'jokes', laughing about dying junkies. What if a relative of yours suffered something like that, Mr. Locksmith?
